This guide remains indispensable for anyone thinking of moving to or visiting Merida, the marvelous capital city of Mexico's Yucatan peninsula, often profiled as a "tropical paradise" by the House Hunters International cable television show. The most comprehensive book ever compiled about Merida, this well-organized guide will help answer most any question - from how to buy or rent a house to where you can find a good Italian restaurant. The 2015 edition has been updated and expanded to include up-to-the-minute information on the NEW IMMIGRATION regulations, how SOCIAL MEDIA have transformed the expatriate community, and how OBAMACARE impacts American expatriates living in Merida! While helping the reader decide how best to go about making the move to the city rated by International Living Magazine as the best area to retire to in the whole of North America, this trove of information and advice will also assist the newly-relocated as well as those with established residence. Topics include information about Merida's neighborhoods; amenities (churches, schools, expat communities, helpful websites, etc.); Medical Tourism; a perfect week as a visitor; Spanish language classes; museums and galleries; making the move to Merida; driving in Mexico; cost of living; hiring household help; banking; an assessment of the real estate market; architects and designers; furnishings; the local artistic community; social customs and holidays; finding a lawyer, hospital or doctor; insurance matters; gay and lesbian communities; taxes; voting; embassies and consulates; as well as consumer advice and warnings. With more than one million Americans and Canadians now living in Mexico, Merida is the center of increasing attention. Often described as a "tropical paradise," a "colonial gem," and a "bastion of tranquility," Merida is undoubtedly Mexico's best kept secret. But is Merida a match for you? Are you ready to become an expatriate? Are you prepared to be a "minority" - a native English speaker in a Spanish speaking country? Are you ready to make a second or retirement home in an exotic and exciting foreign city for that is a ninety-minute flight from the U.S.? Are you thinking about embarking on an adventure of a lifetime? This book will help answer these questions!"

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever noticed that conflict is absolutely everywhere? Though we all want harmony in our relationships and our world, peace seems so hard to come by. Maybe for you, conflict looks like the latest culture war that relentlessly screams at you to pick a side, and you're tired of all the fighting. Or perhaps it takes another shape, like a hot-tempered spouse, rebellious child, passive-aggressive friend, difficult church member, withdrawn roommate, or angry social media comment. No matter its form, conflict always finds us. And often, we let it overtake us. In this short, biblical, and practical book, pastor and author Tony Merida shows us that it doesn't have to be this way. Merida not only paints a stunning picture of Christ our Peacemaker, he also shows us how to stop wishing for peace and go make it. In these pages, Tony will help you: Discover where conflicts come from Realize conflicts don't have to define you, scare you, or undo you Stop allowing your relationships simmer in a place of division, anger, or strife Understand the pattern and power of Christ as the ultimate Peacemaker Tap into the Spirit's supernatural ability to change you in the midst of your conflicts Learn how to overcome evil with good Anticipate conflicts and resolve them in biblical, Christ-centered ways Stop waiting for peace to "hopefully" come to your doorstep. Instead, in the power and strength God provides, become a person who can make the peace you so deeply desire, and watch your relationships transform.

You struggle to fit everything in your bag, you get stressed lugging it around, and you pay a fortune in airline luggage fees. The Carry-On Traveller will teach you not only how to lighten your load, but how to pack everything you need into a single carry-on-size bag. You can apply these strategies to any trip, whether you are travelling for a week or a year, to hot or cold climates, alone or with kids. By travelling carry-on only, you'll save time at airports, avoid wasting money on checked luggage fees (which are increasingly common), and reduce the stress of hauling bulky bags. It's not an all or nothing approach. Packing light is a learning process, and you might want to take it gradually. Even if you don't travel carry-on only on your next trip, this book will help you pack lighter.

Book excerpt: Illustrates the hidden challenges embedded within the evangelical adoption movement. For over a decade, prominent leaders and organizations among American Evangelicals have spent a substantial amount of time and money in an effort to address what they believe to be the “Orphan Crisis” of the United States. Yet, despite an expansive commitment of resources, there is no reliable evidence that these efforts have been successful. Adoptions are declining across the board, and both foster parenting and foster-adoptions remain steady. Why have evangelical mobilization efforts been so ineffective? To answer this question, Samuel L. Perry draws on interviews with over 220 movement leaders and grassroots families, as well as national data on adoption and fostering, to show that the problem goes beyond orphan care. Perry argues that evangelical social engagement is fundamentally self-limiting and difficult to sustain because their subcultural commitments lock them into an approach that does not work on a practical level. Growing God’s Family ultimately reveals this peculiar irony within American evangelicalism by exposing how certain aspects of the evangelical subculture may stimulate activism to address social problems, even while these same subcultural characteristics undermine their own strategic effectiveness. It provides the most recent analysis of dominant elements within the evangelical subculture and how that subculture shapes the engagement strategies of evangelicals as a group.

The book reveals those affordable havens and the strategies for successfully making the move that could save your retirement. Aimed at retirees and near-retirees in the U.S. and Canada, this book's strategies apply just as well to younger people and people with families who are looking for ways to improve their quality of life while at the same time lowering their cost of living. It includes solutions for the challenges of continuing to work and earn money abroad, too. As long-time contributors to the acknowledged leader in the field, International Living, authors Suzan Haskins and Dan Prescher have at their disposal more than thirty years of International Living experience and expertise in the topic. They've been writing about living overseas for more than 12 years and have created their own broad and deep body of work, including regular blogs on the topic for Huffington Post and AARP. The authors include information and strategies that can be successfully applied by anyone regardless of their political or economic opinions. For anyone who wants a happier, healthier, more affordable life, The International Living Guide to Retiring Overseas on a Budget shows you how to enjoy the romance and excitement of living abroad on an affordable budget.
