Book Synopsis The Economic Appraisal of Investment Projects at the EIB - 2nd Edition by : European Investment Bank
Download or read book The Economic Appraisal of Investment Projects at the EIB - 2nd Edition written by European Investment Bank and published by European Investment Bank. This book was released on 2023-05-03 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The EIB performs economic appraisals of the projects it considers for investment. Thereby, it ensures that projects add sufficient value to society to merit support. Beyond considerations of financial profitability to investors, the economic appraisal also addresses the wider value generated by the project to society. This comprises benefits and costs to project final users, the taxpayer and third parties, allowing for all applicable market failures, such as environmental externalities. Since the publication of the first edition of this document in 2013, the EIB has been transformed into the EU Climate Bank. The way it values carbon emissions has been updated, as have various other elements of economic appraisal, in keeping with developments in the specialist literature, policy and practice. This second edition of the document gives the reader an updated view of how economic appraisal is currently conducted at the Bank. It also mentions the areas on which the EIB is currently working to ensure that it is at the forefront of economic appraisal practice.

Download or read book Economic Analysis of Oil and Gas Engineering Operations written by Hussein K. Abdel-Aal and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-02-26 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineers seek solutions to problems, and the economic viability of each potential solution is normally considered along with the technical merits. This is typically true for the petroleum sector, which includes the global processes of exploration, production, refining, and transportation. Decisions on an investment in any oil or gas field development are made on the basis of its value, which is judged by a combination of a number of economic indicators. Economic Analysis of Oil and Gas Engineering Operations focuses on economic treatment of petroleum engineering operations and serves as a helpful resource for making practical and profitable decisions in oil and gas field development. Reflects major changes over the past decade or so in the oil and gas industry Provides thorough coverage of the use of economic analysis techniques in decision-making in petroleum-related projects Features real-world cases and applications of economic analysis of various engineering problems encountered in petroleum operations Includes principles applicable to other engineering disciplines This work will be of value to practicing engineers and industry professionals, managers, and executives working in the petroleum industry who have the responsibility of planning and decision-making, as well as advanced students in petroleum and chemical engineering studying engineering economics, petroleum economics and policy, project evaluation, and plant design.
Book Synopsis Engineering Economy in Upstream Oil & Gas Field Development by : Menglan Duan
Download or read book Engineering Economy in Upstream Oil & Gas Field Development written by Menglan Duan and published by EDP Sciences. This book was released on 2020-12-10 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The business of upstream oil and gas industry is a complex process that involves multidisciplinary participation. Producing crude oil and natural gas from the subsurface reservoir rocks to the point of the selling terminal requires stage by stage processes that costs several hundreds of millions of dollars to the operating companies. Because of the capital intensive nature of upstream investments, every required process is challenged of its economic impact or benefits it will have on the project’s net present value (NPV). The techniques applied in determining the economics of these processes and their selection criteria are addressed in the book. This book guides the reader through these strategic processes, and presents the participants involved in the business of upstream oil and gas prospecting and the conditions that dictate the field development and investment decisions by investors. It also reveals the shared interests and relationships that exist between international oil companies (IOCs) and national oil companies (NOCs) in the exploration and exploitation of their hydrocarbon resources and reserves. This text will serve the purpose of teaching and learning to those in the energy and financial sectors, as the methods, tools, and techniques discussed throughout the chapters will equip students, tutors, experts, and professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge of Exploration and Production (E&P) projects and energy financing and investment. The principles of project management as it applies in upstream oil/gas projects are discussed as well. And the criteria for project ranking, selection, and budgeting which are sine qua non to project financing and execution are well documented in this book.

Book Synopsis Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency by : Aidan Duffy
Download or read book Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency written by Aidan Duffy and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-05-26 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent rise to prominence of renewable energy and energy efficiency has been driven by their potential to lower the environmental impacts of energy use. As these technologies mature they must demonstrate not only their environmental benefits, but also their economic competitiveness. The relative costs and benefits of each potential project, whether large or small, must be systematically modelled and assessed before they can be financed and implemented. Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency: Assessment of Projects and Policies deals with the appraisal of such projects against financial and non-financial criteria, illustrating the assessment tools necessary to make appropriate, evidence based decisions as efficiently as possible. The most important technologies are first described, stressing their economic and performance characteristics. Key project appraisal concepts are then introduced, approaches to modelling the cash flows in energy projects are described, and the issues of uncertainty and optimisation are fully discussed. These financial concepts, together with methods for estimating greenhouse gas emissions, are extended to address aspects of energy policy. Illustrated with many case studies this is an ideal introduction to financial and non-financial appraisal techniques as applied to energy efficient and renewable energy technologies.

Book Synopsis Water Resource Applications, Underground Storage of Natural Gas, and Waste Disposal Using Underground Nuclear Explosions by : Gerald D. Cohen
Download or read book Water Resource Applications, Underground Storage of Natural Gas, and Waste Disposal Using Underground Nuclear Explosions written by Gerald D. Cohen and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a collection of three separate papers dealing with 'Water Resource Applications of Plowshare in the United States', 'Underground Storage of Natural Gas in Nuclear Cavities', and 'Waste Disposal'. The first of the papers was written by Gerald D. Cohen; the latter two by Francis M. Sand. During the writing of these reports a variety of difficulties were encountered in the economic evaluation of each of these peaceful applications of nuclear explosives among them difficulties in projecting potential demand for these processes, uncertainties regarding technical questions due to the lack of nuclear experiments in all three cases, and as a consequence quite some uncertainty must also be attached to the economic benefits and costs of these processes. The main results of the three reports are: In the case of Water Resource Applications within the United States, we concluded that on a national scale the United States is endowed with ample water resources. Only in selected regional situations water shortages appear imminent as the population increases. Extending present trends in water consumption and management, by the end of this century 22 river basins in the United States may not have local supplies of water sufficient to support further development. Four different approaches to solve this problem were proposed, and in each of them, nuclear explosives could be used at some stage: (1) Increase the storage capacity of water on or beneath the land surface. Such storage space could be created either by throwout and subsidence craters or by nuclear chimneys deep underground. The cost of crater reservoirs appears to be within feasible range. The main advantage of using nuclear chimneys for water storage is that they are not subject to the heavy evaporation losses of surface reservoirs.
