Book Synopsis The History of the Devil by : Vilém Flusser
Download or read book The History of the Devil written by Vilém Flusser and published by U of Minnesota Press. This book was released on 2015-07-31 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1939, a young Vilém Flusser faced the Nazi invasion of his hometown of Prague. He escaped with his wife to Brazil, taking with him only two books: a small Jewish prayer book and Goethe’s Faust. Twenty-six years later, in 1965, Flusser would publish The History of the Devil, and it is the essence of those two books that haunts his own. From that time his life as a philosopher was born. While Flusser would later garner attention in Europe and elsewhere as a thinker of media culture, The History of the Devil is considered by many to be his first significant work, containing nascent forms of the main themes that would come to preoccupy him over the following decades. In The History of the Devil, Flusser frames the human situation from a pseudo-religious point of view. The phenomenal world, or “reality” in a general sense, is identified as the “Devil,” and that which transcends phenomena, or the philosophers’ and theologians’ “reality,” is identified as “God.” Referencing Wittgenstein’s Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus in its structure, Flusser provocatively leads the reader through an existential exploration of nothingness as the bedrock of reality, where “phenomenon” and “transcendence,” “Devil” and “God” become fused and confused. So radically confused, in fact, that Flusser suggests we abandon the quotation marks from the terms “Devil” and “God.” At this moment of abysmal confusion, we must make the existential decisions that give direction to our lives.
Book Synopsis The Devil's Story by : Herman Franck
Download or read book The Devil's Story written by Herman Franck and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-02-20 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's not treason when you're taking back your own kingdom. Forgive me but the evidence shows the devil was wrongly convicted of high treason. Begin with this biblical fact: He was the number one angel in heaven known as God's cover angel. He sat next to God and was promised to be god's successor to rule the kingdom of heaven. Lucifer was the Minister of Music and was actually a musical instrument. He wore a sheet with colored jewels that when turned made music. He was the one who brought us music. All this went to hell when God had a son named Jesus. God promised the kingdom to his new son, a breach of promise that Lucifer forbeared. Jesus enacted laws restricting angels. A group of angels believed the new laws enslaved them. Lucifer was their leader and led the angel revolt. The Devil's Story is a rock musical of his retrial for high treason. Don't worry it has a happy ending, sort of.

Book excerpt: Louie Giglio helps you find encouragement, hope, and strength in the midst of any valley as you reject the enemy voices of fear, rage, lust, insecurity, anxiety, despair, temptation, or defeat. Scripture is clear: the Enemy is a liar who will stop at nothing to tempt you into poor decisions and self-defeating mindsets, making you feel afraid, angry, anxious, or defeated. It is all too easy for Satan to weasel his way into a seat at the table intended for only you and your King. But you can fight back. Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table outlines the ways to overcome those lies so you can find peace and security in any challenging circumstance or situation. With the same bold, exciting approach to Scripture as employed in Goliath Must Fall and his other previous works, pastor Louie Giglio examines Psalm 23 in fresh ways, highlighting verse 5: "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies." You can find freedom from insecurity, temptation, and defeat--if you allow Jesus, the Shepherd, to lead the battle for your mind and heart. This spiritual warfare book for those who are leery of spiritual warfare books will resonate with Louie's core Passion tribe as well as with Christians of all ages who want to live a triumphant life in God.

Book Synopsis Your God is Too Glorious by : Chad Bird

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of us are regular people who have good days and bad days. Our lives are radically ordinary and unexciting. That means they're the kind of lives God gets excited about. While the world worships beauty and power and wealth, God hides his glory in the simple, the mundane, the foolish, working in unawesome people, things, and places. In our day of celebrity worship and online posturing, this is a refreshing, even transformative way of understanding God and our place in his creation. It urges us to treasure a life of simplicity, to love those whom the world passes by, to work for God's glory rather than our own. And it demonstrates that God has always been the Lord of the cross--a Savior who hides his grace in unattractive, inglorious places.Your God Is Too Glorious reminds readers that while a quiet life may look unimpressive to the world, it's the regular, everyday people that God tends to use to do his most important work.
