The writing of a letter takes time, and the conveyance of the letter to its destination takes much longer time. The telegraph is instantaneous so far as the conveyance of the electric Signal between point and point is concerned, but it can only be used by expert operators, and the original message must be written at the dispatching end and transcribed afresh at the receiving end. The telephone, on the contrary, is instantaneous between individual and individual. The expert operator is only required to effect the communica tion between the two individuals wishing to speak to one another. The moment that has been done they can talk together almost as easily as if they were in the same room. There is no other means of communication which confers advantages even approaching those given by the telephone. (PMI). PMI was in its infancy in terms of going international . In other words, PMI had neither an organized and international marketing conception nor a regular business to foreign customers and markets so far. Aim and object of this project was analyzing marketing opportunities for their product portfolio within different international markets and to approach adequate marketing strategies. Therefore data of international markets must be collected, evaluated and analyzed to put these results in a strategic order. This thesis deals with the development of foreign markets and how market entry could be realized. It focuses on explaining ways how to get there. The aim of this thesis is to prove which strategies are possible and to explain them in a general approach. The market research and defining the appropriate strategies where focused on the company s product portfolio. The products are digital imaging software and equipment and are placed in the segment for professional photographers, photographic entrepreneurs and retail outlets. The scope of duties in this thesis consisted in gathering data and compiling reports for international sales opportunities in so far unknown international markets. The study combines the theoretical approach with the know-how of working expierence and expatiated the methodology of international marketing research, designing of an international marketing concept and the implementation of market strategies in describing the theoretical disciplines and to implement these results into the company s strategy focus and product portfolio. This thesis benefits from the empirical data gained and its success based on an intensive exchange of ideas from theory and practical work experience. Book excerpt: The cultural phenomenon of exhibiting non-European people in front of the European audiences in the 19th and 20th century was concentrated in the metropolises in the western part of the continent. Nevertheless, traveling ethnic troupes and temporary exhibitions of non-European humans took place also in territories located to the east of the Oder river and Austria. The contributors to this edited volume present practices of ethnographic shows in Russia, Poland, Czechia, Slovenia, Hungary, Germany, Romania, and Austria and discuss the reactions of local audiences. The essays offer critical arguments to rethink narratives of cultural encounters in the context of ethnic shows. By demonstrating the many ways in which the western models and customs were reshaped, developed, and contested in Central and Eastern European contexts, the authors argue that the dominant way of characterizing these performances as “human zoos” is too narrow. The contributors had to tackle the difficult task of finding traces other than faint copies of official press releases by the tour organizers. The original source material was drawn from local archives, museums, and newspapers of the discussed period. A unique feature of the volume is the rich amount of images that complement every single case study of ethnic shows.

Book excerpt: This book—the first of a three-volume overview of comparative and transnational historiography in Europe—focuses on the complex engagement of various comparative methodological approaches with different transnational and supranational frameworks. It considers scales from universal history to meso-regional (i.e. Balkans, Central Europe, etc.) perspectives. In the form of a reader, it displays 18 historical studies written between 1900 and 1943. The collection starts with the French and German methodological discussions around the turn of the twentieth century, stemming from the effort to integrate history with other emerging social sciences on a comparative methodological basis. The volume then turns to the question of structural and institutional comparisons, revisiting various historiographical ventures that tried to sketch out a broader (regional or European-level) interpretative framework to assess the legal systems, patterns of agrarian production, and the common ethnographic and sociocultural features. In the third part, a number of texts are presented, which put forward a supra-national research framework as an antidote to national exclusivism. While in Western Europe the most obvious such framework was pan-European, in East Central Europe the agenda of comparison was linked usually to a meso-regional framework. The studies are accompanied by short contextual introductions including biographical information on the respective authors.
