Book excerpt: This thesis examined 141 staged homicide scenes from Australia, USA, Canada and the UK to determine elements common amongst these crimes, victim and perpetrator characteristics, and offender aims. The findings are relevant to forensic pathologists and medical examiners, police, and legal professionals as they allow for determinations to be made regarding what constitutes a staged scene and what indicators exist. The results suggest a lack of sophistication, where simple staging behaviours were not utilised despite the credence they would have offered the facade.
Book Synopsis Radiation Defect Engineering by : Kozlovski Vitali
Download or read book Radiation Defect Engineering written by Kozlovski Vitali and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing complexity of problems in semiconductor electronics and optoelectronics has exposed the insufficient potential of the technological doping processes currently used. One of the most promising techniques, which this book explores, is radiation doping: the intentional, directional modification of the properties of semiconductors under the action of various types of radiation. The authors consider the basic principles of proton interactions with single crystal semiconductors on the basis of both theory as well as practical results. All types of proton modifications of the materials known presently are analyzed in detail and exciting new fields of research in this direction are discussed.

Book Synopsis Defects of Consent in Consumer E-Commerce from the Polish Law Perspective by : Katarzyna Południak-Gierz
Download or read book Defects of Consent in Consumer E-Commerce from the Polish Law Perspective written by Katarzyna Południak-Gierz and published by V&R unipress. This book was released on 2021-10-11 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The regulation on defects of consent loses its usefulness and should be replaced by special regulations, more suited to the requirements of consumer e-commerce. The study’s main objective is to verify whether, due to the evolution of the concept of the declaration of intent, the emergence of non-individual consumer protection instruments, and technological developments the code regulation of defects in the declaration of will remains useful in the case of contracts concluded by consumers on the Internet. The impact of the development of the Internet environment on the applicability and effectiveness of this traditional private institution is analyzed. Mechanisms that, in practice, displace the regulation of vice of consent are indicated.

Book Synopsis Defect Correction Methods by : K. Böhmer
Download or read book Defect Correction Methods written by K. Böhmer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ten years ago, the term "defect correction" was introduced to characterize a class of methods for the improvement of an approximate solution of an operator equation. This class includes many well-known techniques (e.g. Newton's method) but also some novel approaches which have turned out to be quite efficient. Meanwhile a large number of papers and reports, scattered over many journals and institutions, have appeared in this area. Therefore, a working conference on "Error Asymptotics and Defect Corrections" was organized by K. Bohmer, V. Pereyra and H. J. Stetter at the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach in July 1983, a meeting which aimed at bringing together a good number of the scientists who are active in this field. Altogether 26 persons attended, whose interests covered a wide spectrum from theoretical analyses to applications where defect corrections may be utilized; a list of the participants may be found in the Appendix. Most of the colleagues who presented formal lectures at the meeting agreed to publish their reports in this volume. It would be presumptuous to call this book a state-of-the-art report in defect corrections. It is rather a collection of snapshots of activities which have been going on in a number of segments on the frontiers of this area. No systematic coverage has been attempted. Some articles focus strongly on the basic concepts of defect correction; but in the majority of the contributions the defect correction ideas appear rather as instruments for the attainment of some specified goal.

Download or read book Point Defects in Semiconductors II written by J. Bourgoin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In introductory solid-state physics texts we are introduced to the concept of a perfect crystalline solid with every atom in its proper place. This is a convenient first step in developing the concept of electronic band struc ture, and from it deducing the general electronic and optical properties of crystalline solids. However, for the student who does not proceed further, such an idealization can be grossly misleading. A perfect crystal does not exist. There are always defects. It was recognized very early in the study of solids that these defects often have a profound effect on the real physical properties of a solid. As a result, a major part of scientific research in solid-state physics has,' from the early studies of "color centers" in alkali halides to the present vigorous investigations of deep levels in semiconductors, been devoted to the study of defects. We now know that in actual fact, most of the interest ing and important properties of solids-electrical, optical, mechanical- are determined not so much by the properties of the perfect crystal as by its im perfections.

This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The precedent book with the title "Structural Analysis of Point Defects in Solids: An introduction to multiple magnetic resonance spectroscopy" ap peared about 10 years ago. Since then a very active development has oc curred both with respect to the experimental methods and the theoretical interpretation of the experimental results. It would therefore not have been sufficient to simply publish a second edition of the precedent book with cor rections and a few additions. Furthermore the application of the multiple magnetic resonance methods has more and more shifted towards materials science and represents one of the important methods of materials analysis. Multiple magnetic resonances are used less now for "fundamental" studies in solid state physics. Therefore a more "pedestrian" access to the meth ods is called for to help the materials scientist to use them or to appreciate results obtained by using these methods. We have kept the two introduc tory chapters on conventional electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of the precedent book which are the base for the multiple resonance methods. The chapter on optical detection of EPR (ODEPR) was supplemented by sections on the structural information one can get from "forbidden" transitions as well as on spatial correlations between defects in the so-called "cross relaxation spectroscopy". High-field ODEPR/ENDOR was also added. The chapter on stationary electron nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) was supplemented by the method of stochastic END OR developed a few years ago in Paderborn which is now also commercially available.
Book Synopsis Structural Analysis of Point Defects in Solids by : Johann-Martin Spaeth
Download or read book Structural Analysis of Point Defects in Solids written by Johann-Martin Spaeth and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strutural Analysis of Point Defects in Solids introduces the principles and techniques of modern electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy essentialfor applications to the determination of microscopic defect structures. Investigations of the microscopic and electronic structure, and also correlations with the magnetic propertiesof solids, require various multiple magnetic resonance methods, such as ENDOR and optically detected EPR or ENDOR. This book discusses experimental, technological and theoretical aspects of these techniques comprehensively, from a practical viewpoint, with many illustrative examples taken from semiconductors and other solids. The nonspecialist is informed about the potential of the different methods, while the researcher faced with the task of determining defect structures isprovided with the necessary tools, together with much information on computer-aided methods of data analysis and the principles of modern spectrometer design.
