But just as she's making sure her boss looks as if she knows something about…well, anything, Libby's world is turned upside down. Enter a handsome British consultant—a bit on the cagey side, perhaps—who upsets the delicate chain of command around the office and somehow always gets what he wants. Including Libby? Cue the fake alliances, the secrets, the sex, the subterfuge, the hidden friendships: it's all there. Book excerpt: A marriage for protection in the midst of a wartime retreat becomes the passion of a lifetime in this classic Signet Regency Romance from Carla Kelly. AVAILABLE DIGITALLY FOR THE FIRST TIME Set against the vivid historical background of the Napoleonic Wars, The Wedding Journey is the unforgettable story of Captain Jesse Randall, assistant surgeon of Marching Hospital Number Eight, and his undying love for beautiful, young Nell Mason. A battlefield is no place to wage a campaign of love, and even if it was, Jesse is far too shy to ever confess his love to Nell, who helps the surgeons in the field hospital. Her father, Captain Bertie Mason, is a compulsive gambler, and when Nell’s mother dies, he desperately agrees to marry her to the despicable Major William Bones to relieve his crushing gambling debts. To prevent such a fate, Jesse hastily weds Nell. He doesn’t dare hope she’ll ever return his devotion. A marriage on the front lines of the Napoleonic Wars would be difficult enough, but now Major Bones is out for vengeance. As the British army retreats from Burgos for Portugal, Jesse, Nell, and a handful of the sick and stragglers are left behind to fend for themselves. The newly married couple must now draw on all their strength to survive and save their small band, and somehow nurture a love that can endure the most trying of journeys… Don’t miss Carla Kelly’s other classic Signet Regency romance, The Lady’s Companion.

Book excerpt: Scott Burgess's entirely new commentary on the book of Revelation inspires courage and faithfulness in the reader as it reveals, page after page, how the end-time judgment is the most joyous event in history: Jesus' marriage to His bride. Readers will treasure The Wedding: Jesus Stands for His Bride in the Book of Revelation for both its educational and devotional value. The author upholds the traditional Adventist methodology of allowing Scripture to interpret itself, and looking to history to confirm fulfilled prophecy. With that said, he also introduces a number of fresh insights. He highlights fascinating linguistic and conceptual connections with other portions of Scripture that many of us have not identified before. Those who pore over this tome will find a number of areas they readily agree with, and other areas that will require prayer and reflection before forming a decision, but nearly all will acknowledge Burgess' skillful manner of provoking prayerful thought and contemplation. What makes this book truly worthwhile is the presence of Christ. Burgess stresses the ubiquity of His manifestation throughout the book—as the One who stands seven times on behalf of His bride, empowering her to withstand the fiercest opposition for the sake of faithfulness to Him and His commandments. For those of us who are living in the judgment hour, Jesus offers us the enormous privilege of issuing the final wedding invitation to the world, sitting with Him upon His throne, and living with Him for eternity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The link between weddings and death—as found in dramas ranging from Romeo and Juliet to Lorca's Blood Wedding—plays a central role in the action of many Greek tragedies. Female characters such as Kassandra, Antigone, and Helen enact and refer to significant parts of wedding and funeral rites, but often in a twisted fashion. Over time the pressure of dramatic events causes the distinctions between weddings and funerals to disappear. In this book, Rush Rehm considers how and why the conflation of the two ceremonies comes to theatrical life in the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophokles, and Euripides. By focusing on the dramatization of important rituals conducted by women in ancient Athenian society, Rehm offers a new perspective on Greek tragedy and the challenges it posed for its audience. The conflation of weddings and funerals, the author argues, unleashes a kind of dramatic alchemy whereby female characters become the bearers of new possibilities. Such as formulation enables the tragedians to explore the limitations of traditional thinking and acting in fifth-century Athens. Rehm finds that when tragic weddings and funerals become confused and perverted, the aftershocks disturb the political and ideological givens of Athenian society, challenging the audience to consider new, and often radically different, directions for their city. Rush Rehm is Assistant Professor of Drama and Classics at Standford University and a free-lance theater director. He is the author of Greek Tragic Theatre (Routledge) and Aeschylus' Oresteia: A Theatre Vision (Hawthorn). Originally published in 1994. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.
