Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete documentary archive of Abraham Lincoln’s writings, from historic speeches to personal letters and telegrams. Collected here are numerous documents written by Abraham Lincoln from 1832 to 1865, over the course of his long career as a lawyer, statesman, and president of the United States. From the man who led the nation through the Civil War and into its Reconstruction, Lincoln’s written statements—including the Emancipation Proclamation and the Gettysburg Address—are some of the most significant documents in American history. Included with these works are telegrams to politicians and wartime generals as well as personal letters discussing a range of topics, from youth and marriage to depression. This extensive collection is not only an excellent documentary history of America’s greatest trial as a nation, but also an opportunity to enjoy the intellect and wit of one of America’s greatest orators. As Theodore Roosevelt says in his introductory comments, “Lincoln’s deeds and words are not only of consuming interest to the historian, but should be intimately known to every man engaged in the hard practical work of American political life.” This ebook has been professionally proofread to ensure accuracy and readability on all devices.

Book excerpt: Classic Books Library presents this brand new edition of “The Federalist Papers”, a collection of separate essays and articles compiled in 1788 by Alexander Hamilton. Following the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776, the governing doctrines and policies of the States lacked cohesion. “The Federalist”, as it was previously known, was constructed by American statesman Alexander Hamilton, and was intended to catalyse the ratification of the United States Constitution. Hamilton recruited fellow statesmen James Madison Jr., and John Jay to write papers for the compendium, and the three are known as some of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Alexander Hamilton (c. 1755–1804) was an American lawyer, journalist and highly influential government official. He also served as a Senior Officer in the Army between 1799-1800 and founded the Federalist Party, the system that governed the nation’s finances. His contributions to the Constitution and leadership made a significant and lasting impact on the early development of the nation of the United States.

This book was released on 2003-09-15 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here, in a single volume, is a selection of the classic critiques of the new Constitution penned by such ardent defenders of states' rights and personal liberty as George Mason, Patrick Henry, and Melancton Smith; pro-Constitution writings by James Wilson and Noah Webster; and thirty-three of the best-known and most crucial Federalist Papers by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay. The texts of the chief constitutional documents of the early Republic are included as well. David Wootton's illuminating Introduction examines the history of such American principles of government as checks and balances, the separation of powers, representation by election, and judicial independence—including their roots in the largely Scottish, English, and French new science of politics. It also offers suggestions for reading The Federalist, the classic elaboration of these principles written in defense of a new Constitution that sought to apply them to the young Republic.

This book was released on 2004-02-09 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pulp and paper industry continues to expand at a phenomenal rate and it has an important role to play on the Indian economy. This imposes a difficult problem of selection. Since the amount of material that can be included in a single volume is obviously limited. Careful thought has been given to the selection with the purpose of presenting that material which will be of the greatest interest to the greatest numbers. Paper is one of the major components of urban solid waste (household and commercial waste) and has a potential resource value when collected and reused. Recycling of the waste paper has been a practice that has prevailed in the paper industry since its inception and therefore continues. The preservation of forests and increasing environmental awareness has focussed research on exploration of new fibrous resources and less toxic pulping and bleaching processes. The use of non woody already account for 9.1% of total world papermaking capacity. A variety of non woody plant fibres are used for papermaking. Paper converting refers to the processing of raw paper to produce improved grade of paper or a finished paper article. There are two types of paper converting; wet converting and dry converting. The Indian paper industry has close linkages with economic growth as higher industrial output leads to increased demand for industrial paper for packaging, increased marketing spend benefits the newsprint and value added segments, and increased education and office activities increase demand for writing and printing paper. It is estimated that there is an economic growth of 8.5% for India which will benefit the demand for paper. This book basically comprises of bio refiner mechanical pulping of bast type fibres, use of trichromatic colourimetery for measurement of brightness and yellowness of bleached pulps, finishing and converting, coating equipment, chemical and additives in papermaking, mixed pulping of jute stick and other agricultural residues etc. This book also comprises of the list of manufacturers, suppliers of plant & machinery and allied products, list of manufacturers and suppliers of raw materials, imported pulp manufacturers & suppliers imported pulp, Indian agents for imported pulp etc. This informative book will be helpful for paper technologist, paper chemists and scientists related to paper field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomas Demand is one of the most celebrated contemporary photo artists. At first sight, Demands pictures, say of a kitchen, an elevator, or a car park, seem like depictions of everyday places. Yet on closer inspection they turn out to be reconstructions of reality: Demand creates life-size environments made of paper and cardboard and accurate down to the smallest details, photographs these re-creations and then destroys them. The pictures that arise in this way put their finger squarely on the drab aesthetics of the modern office world and architecture. Demands sculptural and somehow filmic simulations, completely devoid of people, lead us into a world of models, in which a faked reality blends with the memory of a real reality to generate vividly cool images and to investigate the concept of virtual reality that plays such a key role in our technological multimedia age.
