Our aim is to provide readers with the highest quality reproductions of fiction and non-fiction literature that has stood the test of time. The many thousands of books in our collection have been sourced from libraries and private collections around the world. The titles that Trieste Publishing has chosen to be part of the collection have been scanned to simulate the original. Our readers see the books the same way that their first readers did decades or a hundred or more years ago. Books from that period are often spoiled by imperfections that did not exist in the original. Imperfections could be in the form of blurred text, photographs, or missing pages. It is highly unlikely that this would occur with one of our books. Our extensive quality control ensures that the readers of Trieste Publishing's books will be delighted with their purchase. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing's titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers. Generally, Trieste books are purchased singly - on demand, however they may also be purchased in bulk. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Catholic Educational Review: April, 1921; Thomas Edward Shields, Illness-Death-Funeral We here, on the scene of his labors, suffer the deeper bereave ment. But beyond these precincts, beyond the circle of daily association, are thousands who mourn him. In every diocese and parish, in religious novitiate and scholastic council, in college, academy, and elementary school there are debtors to Dr. Shields - teachers who owe him the best that is in them, men and women who are living by his direction, children nu numbered who are growing to knowledge and virtue on the fruit of his thought and endeavor. They share in our loss. Their hearts are with ours. They unite with us in imploring for him a place of refreshment, light, and peace. More plainly than they, we can see the material result of his efforts. It is before us in grounds and buildings and equipment - in structures already completed, and in those just begun, on which he looked as his eyes were closing forever. But the product of his mind went farther. It is open to all in libraries and schoolrooms, and homes throughout the land. It is found wherever the literature of education is treasured and used. It reveals him as the tireless worker, the man of initiative and courage - a singular blending of ideal aims and practical insight. It secures him a position of honor among the foremost of those who are helping to solve our educational problems. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Catholic Educational Review, Vol. 11 Two very important decisions Which directly affect secon dary and college education seem to me, says Dr. Pritchett, to have arisen from this situation. The council has imposed as a condition of the recognition of medical schools as accept able an entrance requirement of one year of college work, this year to include the study of three sciences and a modern lan guage. Not only has the council adopted this requirement as a teaching measure, but it has enforced it throughout the United States, without regard to the ability of the school and college system to meet it. Finally, it has consented to recog nize pre-medical schools set up in the medical school itself to teach the three sciences and a modern language - it can all be done easily in one large room: chemistry in one corner, physics in another, biology in a third, and German in the fourth. It is very presumptuous on the part of the medical faculty to undertake to teach the rudiments of the sciences on which the medical profession rests, and as for their undertaking in a medical school to teach German! It is really surprising that the intelligence of the Medical Council would not have seen the absurdity of this. This book was released on 2015-07-22 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the Final Report of Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission and its six-year investigation of the residential school system for Aboriginal youth and the legacy of these schools. This report, the summary volume, includes the history of residential schools, the legacy of that school system, and the full text of the Commission's 94 recommendations for action to address that legacy. This report lays bare a part of Canada's history that until recently was little-known to most non-Aboriginal Canadians. The Commission discusses the logic of the colonization of Canada's territories, and why and how policy and practice developed to end the existence of distinct societies of Aboriginal peoples. Using brief excerpts from the powerful testimony heard from Survivors, this report documents the residential school system which forced children into institutions where they were forbidden to speak their language, required to discard their clothing in favour of institutional wear, given inadequate food, housed in inferior and fire-prone buildings, required to work when they should have been studying, and subjected to emotional, psychological and often physical abuse. In this setting, cruel punishments were all too common, as was sexual abuse. More than 30,000 Survivors have been compensated financially by the Government of Canada for their experiences in residential schools, but the legacy of this experience is ongoing today. This report explains the links to high rates of Aboriginal children being taken from their families, abuse of drugs and alcohol, and high rates of suicide. The report documents the drastic decline in the presence of Aboriginal languages, even as Survivors and others work to maintain their distinctive cultures, traditions, and governance. The report offers 94 calls to action on the part of governments, churches, public institutions and non-Aboriginal Canadians as a path to meaningful reconciliation of Canada today with Aboriginal citizens. Even though the historical experience of residential schools constituted an act of cultural genocide by Canadian government authorities, the United Nation's declaration of the rights of aboriginal peoples and the specific recommendations of the Commission offer a path to move from apology for these events to true reconciliation that can be embraced by all Canadians.

Book excerpt: Tracing the history of the Cleveland Clinic from its start as a small not-for-profit group practice to being the world's second largest private academic medical center, this medical history tells one of the most dramatic stories in modern medicine. Starting on the battlefield hospitals of World War I, this details how the clinic achieved medical firsts, such as the discovery of coronary angiography and the world's first successful larynx transplant, improved hospital safety, and met the challenges of the 21st century to be ranked among the top five hospitals in America. This text not only recounts the history of the clinic but presents a model for other not-for-profit organizations on how to endure and thrive.
