Book excerpt: The sign over the door reads “Book Shop Proprietor T. Dearing” in large gold letters. For those who can read, this is a place of insight, knowledge, and power. For all others going about their daily business, this shop holds mysteries and evil ideas best avoided at all costs. The shop on London Bridge Tam inherited from his father, Giles, who received the land on which the bookshop now stands, from Henry V, for honorable service during the battle of Agincourt. Tam is a content man who enjoys living in the company of the books so dear to his heart. One day an unexplained package arrives from France containing a copy of “The Cambria Homily”, written by Augustinian Monks in the early eighth century on the island of Skellig Michael off the Irish coast. Cautiously he opens the Illumination and finds a message personally addressed to him, “May You Find Honor Lost.” Tam sets out to uncover the mystery of who sent the book and what is meant by honor lost. Tam travels with a group of Franciscan Monks and Pilgrims for it is unwise to travel alone for fear of being robbed and killed by bandits who prowl the road to Calais. On his quest for truth he learns about unconditional love in the face of abject poverty and cruelty beyond.

The antique book store, Chapter One, is nestled in a quiet square a few steps from London's St Pauls Cathedral. Since Josh's dad died, it has been boarded-up, with whitewashed windows, no new stock, and shelves empty of everything except sad memories. The place is a reminder of loss, and despite Josh being weighed down by grief, it falls on him to sell the store for his mom. Michael is the owner of Arts Desire, the store right next to Josh. With his rainbow pride mugs and positive outlook, he is sunshine and happiness, and the complete opposite of what Josh thinks he needs in his life. Michael says everyone deserves their own Christmas miracle sometimes. All Josh has to do is believe him, and the two men could have their own happy ever after.

'I love Beth Good's quirky style!' - bestselling author, Katie Fforde After ten long years away, television star Daisy Diamond is finally going home. She's not back at the gorgeous seaside resort of Port Pol in sunny Cornwall five minutes before she realises the mistake she's made. Her childhood sweetheart Nick Old - affectionately known as 'Devil' - is still living there, running the local bookshop, and he is determined to rekindle their flame. Daisy is no longer the dewy-eyed romantic of her school days. Her life may not have gone according to plan, but she's not afraid to show Nick how much she's grown since he famously dumped her at the school leavers' disco. Even if it means bending her heart out of shape a little . . . A charming summer novella from popular romantic comedy writer Beth Good and another entry in her quirky 'Oddest Little Shop' series.
Download or read book My Bookstore written by Ronald Rice and published by Black Dog & Leventhal. This book was released on 2012-11-13 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this enthusiastic, heartfelt, and sometimes humorous ode to bookshops and booksellers, 84 known authors pay tribute to the brick-and-mortar stores they love and often call their second homes. In My Bookstore our greatest authors write about the pleasure, guidance, and support that their favorite bookstores and booksellers have given them over the years. The relationship between a writer and his or her local store and staff can last for years or even decades. Often it's the author's local store that supported him during the early days of his career, that continues to introduce and hand-sell her work to new readers, and that serves as the anchor for the community in which he lives and works. My Bookstore collects the essays, stories, odes and words of gratitude and praise for stores across the country in 81 pieces written by our most beloved authors. It's a joyful, industry-wide celebration of our bricks-and-mortar stores and a clarion call to readers everywhere at a time when the value and importance of these stores should be shouted from the rooftops. Perfectly charming line drawings by Leif Parsons illustrate each storefront and other distinguishing features of the shops.
