Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive manual covers everything readers need to know about working Bedlingtons. Diverse subjects are covered including using these working terriers as gun dogs, for tracking wounded game, lamping, ferreting and for rabbit hawking. The book discusses comparisons of working dogs, pure show types and show dogs that work, whilst exploring the viability of the Bedlington terrier as a base line for producing the working lurcher and other types of out-crossing. The book covers accurate reference to the law as it stands today and gives examples of pre-ban hunting in the UK and abroad. This is not a breed manual and does not cover dog health, or how to breed puppies. But if you want to know about great working Bedlingtons, past and present, then this book is the very next best thing to being out there in the field yourself. AUTHOR: John Glover has a great love for the countryside and has spent a lifetime hunting rabbits and other vermin and fishing the local canals and lakes in North Warwickshire. Through his breeding programmes he has been a major contributor to improving the working Bedlington, with particular emphasis to prey drive and good coats. He has judged many other breeds, including working Whippets, Lurchers and various working terriers. John has been a prolific writer of articles for over twenty years, having written for the local and sporting press covering many subjects including angling, ferreting, ratting, falconry, trapping, shooting and most breeds of working terrier and running dog. This book was released on 2015-02-28 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book (Bedlington Terriers) provides you with a through description and positive attributes of this breed including origin, purpose, history, normal heights and weights, acceptable colors and behavioral traits. Our books differ from most books on dog breeds because this book also provides you with a comprehensive and authoritative source of all the known predisposed hereditary health syndromes for the breed. You will find extensive references for each problem described. We also provide the breed club address for this breed and a list of laboratories and organizations that can provide professional help and information. As a small animal veterinarian, I have always been intrigued by the way dogs have been bred to fill a purpose in life and further impressed that they also tend to love performing that service. Greyhounds and other sight hounds are built for speed with aerodynamic bodies consisting of small head, deep chest, narrow waist and large leg muscles. On the other hand Dachshunds take their name from German words meaning “badger dog” and they use their long nose, long body and short legs to both track, enter and dig into badger dens. After developing a practice that catered to clients with show dogs, my interest in each breed continued to grow as I studied and observed more and more about the unique predisposition and incidence of health problems in each breed. Breeders of purebred dogs for show were a challenge and inspirational for me to research and help them with their unique health problems. Historically references to hereditary problems are scattered throughout various Veterinary medical texts and journals such as ophthalmology, neurology, gastroenterology, cardiovascular and dermatology. This book, as well as the other books and articles I have written, is researched and compiled with the intention to provide both veterinarians and dog owners with comprehensive and authoritative predisposition information under the breed name. At the date of this publication, The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation and the The Kennel Club of England reports over 400 known hereditary health syndromes throughout the dog kingdom. At the writing of my first book in 1983, less than 50 hereditary issues are able to be predicted and or diagnosed. Sequencing of the canine genome, DNA tests, metabolic testing including blood tests and urine testing; plus, phenotypic examinations such as radiographs, ultrasound, and CERF or OFA eye registry exams by a Board Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist have advanced the science of breed related health and behavioral problems. This book will provide veterinarians, researchers, pet owners and breeders with a comprehensive guide to all the known problems veterinarians and dog owners should consider during pet selection and throughout each life stage of our canine friends.

Book excerpt: This book is about sporting terriers, that much-loved, quintessentially British, quite admirable group of dogs, favored for centuries by the more humble type of hunter. Sporting Terriers is not a manual covering training, grooming, nutrition, and dog care; it is a celebration of terriers' contribution to the sporting scene, an examination of their form, their function, and their future, in an increasingly urban society. Painstakingly researched and brimming with information, it covers the emergent terrier breeds and foreign ones, as well as the long-established pedigree breeds of the show ring.

This book was released on 2019-03-15 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bedlington Terrier is a small breed of dog that is named after the small mining town of Bedlington, in Northumberland, in North East England. The Bedlington Terrier is also commonly known as the 'Rothbury Terrier, ' the 'Rodbery Terrier' and the 'Rothbury's Lamb.' The breed was originally developed to hunt small vermin in mines. However in recent years the Bedlington Terrier has been used in dog races, dog sports, dog conformation shows, as a companion dog and as a general family pet. The breed is known to be extremely quick, athletic and capable of out swimming many water dog breeds. The breed has a unique coat which gives it a similar aesthetic appearance to a lamb. Their coats normally come in the following four colorations: white, liver, blue or sandy. The Bedlington Terrier is known to be affectionate, playful, friendly and incredibly loyal to their family unit. However, it is important to know that the Bedlington Terrier is a highly jealous breed and is not afraid of 'fighting' or attacking other dogs, or pets, that its owners are showing attention to. Before purchasing any pet it is important to understand that as a pet owner you are responsible for the care and wellbeing of your pet. It is important to try and learn as much as you can about the animal you are considering to keep as a pet to make sure that your lifestyle, household and financial status are suited to provide your pet with the best possible care. This guide has been designed to provide you with both precise and concise information about a Bedlington Terrier's basic needs to help you provide your pet with the best quality care practices. This guide will give an in-depth explanation on training your Bedlington Terrier, raising your Bedlington Terrier from a puppy, grooming, health care and everything in between! "The Bedlington Terrier: A Complete and Comprehensive Beginners Guide to: Buying, Owning, Health, Grooming, Training, Obedience, Understanding and Caring for Your Bedlington Terrierm." by Michael Stonewood is the perfect purchase or gift for a first time Bedlington Terrier owner. This guide includes sections on caring for a puppy, breeding, health care, training, the basic cost of owning an Bedlington Terrier and much more.
