Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fairy Hills, Portal Stones, Magic. These were all things of legend.... or were they? Keely Young, an average looking woman from Iowa, on her dream vacation to Ireland would soon be propelled headlong into the mystery and magic surrounding Tapley Folly. She was ill prepared for the discovery of a rugged looking Highlander inside the stone tower, laying near death beside the strangely carved stone. She was even more unprepared for the attraction she felt for this man and who he claimed to be, though who he claimed to be...wasn't possible in the realistic scheme of things. Liam Tapley, Laird of Tapley Manor and Earl of Glen Bally lay beaten, near death. Upon awakening he sees this fair woman, his saving angel and whom he relies on as he is thrust into a world he is ill prepared to understand. Laird Tapley hailed from the Scottish Highlands and became Laird of Tapley Manor via an inheritance. He treated his tenants in a manner forging a loyalty and respect amongst them which would be needed, but it created an animosity amongst other landed gentry of the region resulting in his ending up in the tower. The Year of Slaughter, 1740aEUR"1 was a disastrous time in Ireland's history with bitter temperatures causing failed crops, disease and starvation. For reasons unbeknownst to him he had gained a reputation as being a beast. Now he is in an entirely different era, his estate in ruins, as he tries to gain control over his growing emotions towards Keely, as well as figure out what he has to do. Can he return to his own time? Does he want to? If he returns will he become the beast he is accused of being or will he manage to tame it and return to Keely in her time? He too is unfamiliar with the fairy magic and how it worked or if it would work. He had to trust in the unknown to fix his past to return to his future.

Book excerpt: In 1962 Robin is forced by the Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire to undergo psychiatric treatment in order to be cured of his homosexuality. Instead of turning him into a heterosexual, his psychiatrist turns him into a schizophrenic. He has a beatific vision and gives a written account of it to the German theologian Paul Tillich, who then proclaims in Harvard's Memorial Church: The Son of Man is in our presence. Robin thereupon goes in search of the Second Coming and discovers Mark Frechette, who will later have the star role in Michelangelo Antonioni's film Zabriskie Point. Mark is later crucified in prison at the age of twenty-seven.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During his life, Gene Nunnery was recognized as a master turkey hunter and an artisan who crafted unique, almost irresistible turkey calls. In The Old Pro Turkey Hunter, the vaunted sportsman shares over fifty years of personal experience in Mississippi and surrounding states, along with the decades-old wisdom of the huntsmen who taught him. Throughout the book, his stories make clear that turkey hunting is more than just killing the bird—it is about matching wits with a wild and savvy adversary. As Nunnery explains, “To me that’s what it’s all about: finding a wise old gobbler who will test your skill as a turkey hunter.” Through his stories, Nunnery reveals that the true reward for successful turkey hunting lies in winning the contest, not necessarily exterminating the foe. Real sportsmen know that every now and then the turkey should and will elude the hunter. As Nunnery looks back on his extensive career, he analyzes vast differences in practice, old and new. The shift, he decides, came during his last twenty years on the hunt, and that difference has only increased in the decades since this book was originally published. Michael O. Giles, Bass Pro staff team member, master turkey hunter, and award-winning outdoors writer and author of Passion of the Wild, writes a new foreword that brings the practice of turkey hunting into the present day. Filled with a tested mixture of common sense and specific examples of how master turkey hunters honor their harvest and heritage, The Old Pro Turkey Hunter is the perfect companion for the novice or the adept.

Book excerpt: Long before sound became an essential part of motion pictures, Westerns were an established genre. The men and women who brought to life cowboys, cowgirls, villains, sidekicks, distressed damsels and outraged townspeople often continued with their film careers, finding success and fame well into the sound era--always knowing that it was in silent Westerns that their careers began. More than a thousand of these once-silent Western players are featured in this fully indexed encyclopedic work. Each entry includes a detailed biography, covering both personal and professional milestones and a complete Western filmography. A foreword is supplied by Diana Serra Cary (formerly the child star "Baby Peggy"), who performed with many of the actors herein.

Book excerpt: "Beginning with just five feet of counter space on Coney Island in 1916, Nathan's Famous - based on the basic principles of quality ingredients, hard work and a price everyone could afford -soon stretched across the globe, launching the hotdog as an American food staple and Nathan Handwerker to national fame. But the story behind the dog is even tastier... Fleeing Eastern Europe as the shadow of WWI looms large with nothing but twenty dollars in his socks, Nathan arrives in New York with the insatiable desire to make a better life, and within two years he sets up a shop of his own, hawking frankfurters for five cents at the sleepy little beach retreat of Coney Island. As New York booms, pushing trains and patrons to the shore, so too do Nathan's humble hotdogs. Within ten years he has the whole corner, and a brand as recognizable as Coca-Cola and Cracker Jack. Nathan's is famous. But with success comes difficulties, and as Nathan's two sons vie to inherit the family dynasty a story of Biblical proportions plays out, mirroring the corporatization of the American food industry. Written by Nathan's own grandson, and at once a portrait of a man, a family and the changing face of a nation through a century of promise and progress, Famous Nathan is a dog's tale that snaps and satisfies with every page"--
