Book Synopsis Contemporary Apprenticeship by : Alison Fuller
Download or read book Contemporary Apprenticeship written by Alison Fuller and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-11 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the world, people understand the meaning of 'apprenticeship'. As a model of learning and skill formation, apprenticeship has adapted over the years to reflect changes in work, in technology, and in the types of knowledge that underpin occupational expertise. Apprenticeship serves the needs of government, as well as employers, individuals and society more generally. These needs have always co-existed in dynamic tension. This book explores the contemporary state of apprenticeship in Europe, the United States, Canada, and Ghana. The chapters present perspectives from leading researchers in the field, showing how apprenticeship is evolving and changing in every country (crossing boundaries of age, sector and levels of skill and knowledge) and examining the ability of apprenticeship to facilitate both vertical progression – particularly to higher education – and horizontal progression between jobs and sectors. As such, apprenticeship remains at the core of debates about vocational learning and the nature of expertise. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Vocational Education and Training.

Book Synopsis Routledge Revivals: Vocational Education and Training in the Developed World (1979) by : Leonard Cantor
Download or read book Routledge Revivals: Vocational Education and Training in the Developed World (1979) written by Leonard Cantor and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1989, this book primarily sets out to provide detailed accounts of the policy towards and the provision of vocational education and training in five countries of the developed world: Japan, Australia, the United States, the Federal Republic of Germany, and the United Kingdom. Professor Cantor concentrates on the training of skilled personnel at operative, craft, and technician levels, and describes provision both within public and private institutions, such as further education colleges, and in industry and business. Comparisons are drawn between each country, for example between the ‘British’ traditions of vocational education and training in Australia and the United Kingdom, and the more ‘entrepreneurial’ approach of Japan and the United States.
Book Synopsis The Vocational Quest by : Helen Connell
Download or read book The Vocational Quest written by Helen Connell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-02-07 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Government attempts in recent years to create a national system of vocational education and training have marked a profound shift both in educational policy and in underlying concepts of what education is for. Relations between schools and the working world are changing all the time and the implementation of ideas of vocationalism has forced a blurring of the time-honoured boundaries between educations concerned with concepts and training, or with skills. The challenge now is to define how the schools can give young people the foundations for life in a working world in which they are likely to have to change jobs and where work will fill a smaller proportion of their lives. The Vocational Quest maps the evolution of vocationalism in Britain in historical terms and examines how the particular forms that have come into being in the last few years compare with developments in other parts of the world, including Continental Europe, Japan, the United States, Australia and New Zealand. It argues for new forms of communication and partnership between formal education and training and the wider community, in which values will be shared and no one partner will win at the expense of others.

Book Synopsis Vocational Education and Training by : Don Zoellner
Download or read book Vocational Education and Training written by Don Zoellner and published by ANU Press. This book was released on 2017-04-05 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the first consolidated history of vocational education and training in the Northern Territory. Not only does the story present a chronological account of events, people and institutions, it also offers an explanation of how the system actually works and this has application well beyond the Territory. The mix of historical accounting and operational analysis comes from a unique perspective. It is proposed that the best way to understand the behaviour of the government ministers who have responsibility for vocational training is to compare their decisions and actions with those of wealthy philanthropists.

Book Synopsis The Price of Prosperity by : Richard Taylor
Download or read book The Price of Prosperity written by Richard Taylor and published by UNSW Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While our leaders celebrate Australia’s ‘economic miracle’, unemployment, particularly long-term unemployment, has become a permanent feature of Australia’s economic landscape. Its unacceptably high level has proved remarkably resistant in the face of sustained economic growth and increased prosperity. The adverse economic and social consequences of high unemployment are likely to leave long-term scars on those affected, as well as on local communities and the entire fabric of Australian society. Yet these effects rarely feature on the policy agenda, and the costs of unemployment remain largely invisible.
