Book excerpt: No other object mentioned in the annals of ancient history and mythology has so stirred the imagination of amateur archaeologists as the ship known to us as Noah's ark. In The Ark File, the author has traced the almost unbelievable tale of research and frustration that has accompanied the modern search for it. Is the story of Noah's ark and the Flood a mere myth, or is it possibly the agonizing account of a survivor of the greatest tragedy ever to befall mankind? This book presents the answers connected with this age-old mystery.

Fans of Dan Brown, Clive Cussler, and Ernest Dempsey will devour this in hours! While THE ARK FILES has loads of conflict, chase scenes, fighting and suspense, there's no swearing, sex or gore. What USA Today, New York Times, and Amazon Bestselling authors think of Luke Richardson's writing: "Luke Richardson writes stories the way artists were meant to, by immersing themselves in scenes so that the reader feels like they are in the room with the characters." ERNEST DEMPSEY "Richardson redefines the genre, but in a VERY good way. Skip this one at your peril!" NICK THACKER "Luke Richardson has a unique way of transporting you to the locations in his books and dropping you right into the mess with his characters." TY HUTCHINSON

Book excerpt: About the Book View from the Ark is a groundbreaking book documenting the work of American researcher, David Fasold, and what is today believed to be the authentic site of Noah’s Ark. Fasold’s extensive scientific work was the basis for the Turkish government’s official and only declaration that Noah’s Ark has been found. The site lies in the mountains of Ararat, near the Turkish village of Dogubayazit. This area is now designated as a national park, and the ark site designated in the Turkish as “Nuhun Gemisi” is now a national treasure. Fasold was formerly with the United States Merchant Marines and had traveled the world. He later spent years operating a successful salvaging business in Florida exploring sunken ships and aircraft and was a close friend of the legendary Mel Fisher. Fasold brought his comprehensive nautical skills and understanding of fluid dynamics together with his knowledge of ancient cultures. He then used new technology to answer old questions. He used a molecular frequency generator, and later, ground-penetrating radar, a technology formerly used in projects by NASA. But it was his keen ability to put the pieces together into a coherent whole that brought his work to the attention of the world. Recognized by Turkey’s High Commission for Noah’s Ark, and under the direction of Dr. Salye Baraktutan of Ataturk University in Erzerum, Turkey, Fasold was the only non-Turkish person ever allowed to sit as a member of the commission.

Schaefer is a lifelong communicator, fascinated by stories and, like any good journalist, digs for the facts and verifies sources, exploring nagging questions such as "Is creation or evolution more credible, based on science and expert opinions?" This book truly represents a personal passion of looking at all sides of the CREATION vs. EVOLUTION issue. He has called on many experts and theorists-including Charles Darwin himself. Surprisingly, Darwin was far more skeptical of his own theories than are many PhDs today, and admitted to significant holes in his logic. Read for yourself, as great thinkers explore the pros and cons of both theories and their variants.

It is a place of dread where one wrong step can send climbers careening down a steep, glacial field into the abyss known as the Ahora Gorge. Many have died on those slopes, and some have never been seen again. So why do climbers come to this place on the far east of the Turkish Frontier? It is not for sport alone; in fact, for most, that is far from the real reason. They come to Ararat flirting with death to find an old boat we all know as Noahs ark. It is said that its rotting corpse is somewhere up there in the swirling clouds and slumbering silence of ancient ice. Come with Mary Irwin, one of the original ark-aeologists, as she travels to Ararat and back again uncovering many of the ancient secrets of Noahs ark. You may be surprised what you find!

Book excerpt: A NEW SCIENTIST BOOK OF THE YEAR 2022 'A fascinating read for anyone interested in the future of the planet' Adam Hart, author and BBC science presenter Our planet hasn't seen the current rate of extinction since the demise of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, and global conservation efforts are failing to halt this. As a society, we face choices which will determine the fate of Earth's estimated 8.7 million species, including humans. As wildlife declines, conservation needs to make trade-offs. But what should we conserve and why? Are we wrong to love bees and hate wasps? Are native species more valuable than newcomers (aka invasives)? Should some animals be culled to protect others, and what do we want the 'natural world' to look like? There are many surprising answers in Rebecca Nesbit's lively, stimulating book, which sows the seeds of a debate we urgently need to have.

Book excerpt: The third International congress of Science and Technology for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage, TechnoHeritage 2017, was held in Cadiz, from 21 to 24 May 2017, under the umbrella of the TechnoHeritage network. TechnoHeritage is an initiative funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitivity dedicated to the creation of a network which integrates CSIC and University groups, private companies and end users such as foundations, museums or institutions. The network’s purpose is to foster the creation of transdisciplinary (and not only multidisciplinary) initiatives focused on the study of all assets, movable or immovable, that make up Cultural Heritage. A high-quality scientific programme was prepared, which includes new emerging topics on Cultural Heritage (1) Nanomaterials and other Products for Conservation, (2) New Technologies for Analysis, Protection and Conservation, (3) 20th Century Cultural Heritage, (4) Significance of Cultural Heritage. Policies for Conservation, (5) Deterioration of Cultural Heritage, (6) Biodeterioration: Fundamentals, Present and Future Perspectives and (7) Underwater Cultural Heritage. A special session "Biodeterioration: Fundamentals, present and future perspectives, a session in honour of Prof. Cesáreo Sáiz Jiménez" took place. Our intention was to recognise the work of Prof. Sáiz Jiménez, who recently retired, and its impact on the Cultural Heritage conservation community, which he has helped to promote through numerous activities including, in 2011, the creation of the TechnoHeritage network. This volume publishes a total of eighty-three contributions which reflect the state of the art investigations on different aspects of cultural heritage conservation.
