Book excerpt: This Book, The Apprentice Boy Part II, is the continuation of The Apprentice Boy Part I. You probably have read The Apprentice Boy Part I. The Apprentice Boy is an African story of a Nigerian boy born in a poor family without any future. His father died after he fell from height, and there was no one to pay his schools fees. He loved to go to school, but his mother could not afford to send him to school. Eventually he managed to attain a high level of education through self-effort and hardwork. There were many obstacles on his way as he wrestled with life. The climax of his woes came when he was captured by some barbaric natives who needed human heads for a sacrificial burial for a dead King. While Part I of The apprentice Boy narrated the boy’s life from age 4 up to age 22, when he was captured by barbaric natives, Part II narrated what happened to the young man in his captivity. The book is rich with Nigerian (African) legend, idioms, and figurative speech. It is excellent for improving the knowledge of English language, especially for English learners. The Book is also excellent for English Literature text book in High Schools and Universities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever been swept away by a story? If you have, you know the magic of the storyteller--and you know that magic is real. This is seventeen-year-old Toren's magic . . . but is she brave enough to accept the power she holds? When Toren returns home, her little sister, Noa, is full of questions. Why does Toren awake only at night? What causes her almost constant pain? And above all, why, after completing her apprenticeship, has she has decided not to become a wizard? To answer, Toren weaves a tale about a journey that leads her to discover the greatest source of magic in her world--herself. It is a revelation that comes at a high price. Through her darkest years, Toren finds solace and strength in the stories she tells. But her greatest tale is not yet finished. Together with Noa, she sets out on a new adventure. And in the end, she must choose. Will she continue to cling to her dream of an ordinary life, or will she dare to let her own magic shine? TOREN: THE TELLER'S TALE is an inspirational fantasy about the enchantment of literature, because in Toren's parallel world there is no greater magic than the magic of storytelling. TOREN: THE TELLER'S TALE is the first book in the Toren the Teller series.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The apprentice system in colonial America began as a way for young men to learn valuable trade skills from experienced artisans and mechanics and soon flourished into a fascinating and essential social institution. Benjamin Franklin got his start in life as an apprentice, as did Mark Twain, Horace Greeley, William Dean Howells, William Lloyd Garrison, and many other famous Americans. But the Industrial Revolution brought with it radical changes in the lives of craft apprentices. In this book, W. J. Rorabaugh has woven an intriguing collection of case histories, gleaned from numerous letters, diaries, and memoirs, into a narrative that examines the varied experiences of individual apprentices and documents the massive changes wrought by the Industrial Revolution.
