It systemically reveals the essential features of the fault traveling wave and concludes the analytical solutions of the transient fault traveling waves and the modulus maxima representation of the dyadic wavelet transform of fault traveling waves. Finally, the book analyzes the acquisition of traveling waves and the sensor’s characteristics. A unique fault travelling wave test device has been invented based on the theories of the book and will be applied in real systems.
Book Synopsis High Speed Digital Protection of EHV Transmission Lines Using Traveling Waves by :
Download or read book High Speed Digital Protection of EHV Transmission Lines Using Traveling Waves written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission lines are designed to transfer large amount of power from one location to another. The length exposed to the environment is a major reason for occurrence of faults on the lines. A fault on a high voltage transmission line affects the stability of the overall power system, which sometimes leads to permanent damage of the equipment. Relays are developed and installed to protect the lines. The transmission line protection relays, in the industry, are based on the fundamental frequency components of the voltages and currents. These relays need at least one fundamental frequency cycle for performing the protection operation. Voltage and current traveling waves are generated when a fault occurs on the transmission line. The velocity of propagation of traveling waves is finite and the level of the waves decreases with increase in the distance traveled. Information about the fault can be obtained by analyzing the traveling waves. A few traveling wave techniques, which are based on analog signal processing, to protect transmission lines have been proposed in the past. Two digital techniques, which use traveling waves for protecting EHV transmission lines, are proposed in this thesis. The traveling waves are extracted from the modal voltages and currents at the terminals of the transmission line. The techniques identify and locate the fault by using the information contained in the waves. A power system was modeled in the Electromagnetic Transient Direct Current Analysis (EMTDC) and several cases were created by varying different parameters related to the fault, fault type, fault location, fault resistance and fault inception angle. The techniques were implemented in hardware and their performance was tested on data, generated from the EMTDC simulations. Some cases are discussed in the thesis. The performance of the digital techniques for protecting EHV transmission lines using traveling waves was confirmed to be satisfactory. The propose.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transmission Lines and Wave Propagation, Fourth Edition helps readers develop a thorough understanding of transmission line behavior, as well as their advantages and limitations. Developments in research, programs, and concepts since the first edition presented a demand for a version that reflected these advances. Extensively revised, the fourth edition of this bestselling text does just that, offering additional formulas and expanded discussions and references, in addition to a chapter on coupled transmission lines. What Makes This Text So Popular? The first part of the book explores distributed-circuit theory and presents practical applications. Using observable behavior, such as travel time, attenuation, distortion, and reflection from terminations, it analyzes signals and energy traveling on transmission lines at finite velocities. The remainder of the book reviews the principles of electromagnetic field theory, then applies Maxwell's equations for time-varying electromagnetic fields to coaxial and parallel conductor lines, as well as rectangular, circular, and elliptical cylindrical hollow metallic waveguides, and fiber-optic cables. This progressive organization and expanded coverage make this an invaluable reference. With its analysis of coupled lines, it is perfect as a text for undergraduate courses, while graduate students will appreciate it as an excellent source of extensive reference material. This Edition Includes: An overview of fiber optic cables emphasizing the principle types, their propagating modes, and dispersion Discussion of the role of total internal reflection at the core/cladding interface, and the specific application of boundary conditions to a circularly symmetrical propagating mode A chapter on coupled transmission lines, including coupled-line network analysis and basic crosstalk study More information on pulse propagation on lines with skin-effect losses A freeware program available online Solutions manual available with qualifying course adoption

Book Synopsis Circuit Analysis for Power Engineering Handbook by : Arieh L. Shenkman
Download or read book Circuit Analysis for Power Engineering Handbook written by Arieh L. Shenkman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 741 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of circuits is the foundation on which most other courses in the electrical engineering curriculum are based. For this reason the first course in circuit analysis must be appropriate to the succeeding specializations, which may be classified into two groups. One is a specialization in electro nics, microelectronics, communications, computers etc. , or so-called low current, low-voltage engineering. The other is in power electronics, power systems, energy conversion devices etc. , or so-called high-current, high voltage engineering. It is evident that although there are many common teaching topics in the basic course of circuit analysis, there are also certain differences. Unfortunately most of the textbooks in this field are written from the 'electronic engineer's viewpoint', i. e. with the emphasis on low current systems. This brought the author to the conclusion that there is a definite disad vantage in not having a more appropriate book for the specializations in high-current, high-voltage engineering. Thus the idea for this book came into being. The major feature distinguishing this book from others on circuit analysis is in delivering the material with a very strong connection to the specializations in the field of power systems, i. e. in high-current and high voltage engineering. The author believes that this emphasis gives the reader more opportunity for a better understanding and practice of the material which is relevant for power system network analysis, and to prepare students for their further specializations.
Book Synopsis Electrical Transients in Power Systems by : Allan Greenwood
Download or read book Electrical Transients in Power Systems written by Allan Greenwood and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1991-04-18 with total page 778 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principles of the First Edition--to teach students and engineers the fundamentals of electrical transients and equip them with the skills to recognize and solve transient problems in power networks and components--also guide this Second Edition. While the text continues to stress the physical aspects of the phenomena involved in these problems, it also broadens and updates the computational treatment of transients. Necessarily, two new chapters address the subject of modeling and models for most types of equipment are discussed. The adequacy of the models, their validation and the relationship between model and the physical entity it represents are also examined. There are now chapters devoted entirely to isolation coordination and protection, reflecting the revolution that metal oxide surge arresters have caused in the power industry. Features additional and more complete illustrative material--figures, diagrams and worked examples. An entirely new chapter of case studies demonstrates modeling and computational techniques as they have been applied by engineers to specific problems.
