Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Amherst Papyri, Vol. 2: Being an Account of the Greek Papyri in the Collection of Lord Amherst of Hackney The present volume contains the remainder of Lord Amherst's collection of Greek Papyri, including the classical fragments and non-literary documents, besides some additional theological fragments which had not been identified at the time of the publication of Part I. In editing the new classical fragments Professor Blass has, as usual, rendered us great assistance; and Mr. J. G. Smyly has made many valuable suggestions on the Ptolemaic texts. The facsimiles include many of the most important papyri, and serve to illustrate, by examples taken from each century, the whole period of nearly a thousand years during which Greek writing prevailed in Egypt. In response to several requests for a facsimile of the Letter from Rome (Part I, No. 3a) we have added a reproduction of that document in the present volume (Plate XXV).
