Book Synopsis Indonesia’s Foreign Policy and Grand Strategy in the 21st Century by : Vibhanshu Shekhar
Download or read book Indonesia’s Foreign Policy and Grand Strategy in the 21st Century written by Vibhanshu Shekhar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-14 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the changes in Indonesian foreign policy during the 21st century as it seeks to position itself as a great power in the Indo-Pacific region. The rise of 21st-century Indonesia is becoming a permanent fixture in both the domestic and global discourses. Though there has been an increasing level of discussion on Indonesia’s emerging power status, there has been little discussion on how the country is debating and signalling its new-found status. This book combines the insights of both neo-classical realism and social identity theory to discuss a reset in an emerging Indonesia’s foreign policy during the 21st century while emphasizing domestic drivers and constraints of its international behaviour. There are three key organizing components of the book – emerging power, status signalling and the Indo-Pacific region. The Indo-Pacific region constitutes a spatial framing of the book; the emerging power provides an analytical category to explain Indonesia’s changing international status; and status signalling explains multiple facets of international behaviour through which the country is projecting its new status. Though leaders are adding different styles and characteristics to the rising Indonesia narrative, there are a few unmistakable overarching trends that highlight an increasing correlation between the country’s rising power and growing ambition in international behaviour. This book is built around four key signalling strategies of Indonesia as an emerging power – expanded regional canvas, power projection, leadership projection, and quest for great power parity. They represent Indonesia’s growing desire for a status-consistent behaviour, its response to the prevailing strategic uncertainty in the Indo-Pacific region and its attempt to advance its strategic interests. This book will be of much interest to students of South-East Asian politics, strategic studies, international diplomacy, security studies and IR in general.

Book Synopsis Reforming Capitalism for the Common Good by : Whalen, Charles J.
Download or read book Reforming Capitalism for the Common Good written by Whalen, Charles J. and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2022-08-23 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book of carefully selected essays, Charles Whalen presents constructive analyses of vital economic problems confronting the United States since the 1970s, giving special attention to challenges facing working families. The analyses are grounded in Whalen’s career of more than three decades, during which he has gleaned insight from institutional and post-Keynesian economics and contributed to national economic policy-making, equitable regional development, and worker engagement in business decisions. The result is a compelling case for reforming capitalism by addressing workers’ interests as an integral part of the common good, and for reconstructing economics in the direction of post-Keynesian institutionalism.
Book Synopsis Accumulation and Power by : Richard B. DuBoff
Download or read book Accumulation and Power written by Richard B. DuBoff and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-07-22 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accumulation and Power analyses America’s economic development across three great waves of economic expansion: the Grand Traverse 1850-1900, the New Era 1916-1929 and the Great Postwar Boom, 1945-1972. Drawing on the work of Keynes, Schumpeter, Marx it departs radically from the "new economic history" model, focusing instead on capitalist decision making and its social consequences. It argues that the accumulation process is far more important than competitive markets in explaining resource allocation and growth. This innovative book is essential reading for all students and scholars of American economic history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The extent to which Japan will improve its military forces in the next 10 years will determine the balance of power in Asia, if not in the world. Because of the close economic and security ties which the United States has with Japan, and because Japan is the lynchpin of the United States foreign policy in the Pacific, future US actions will have a substantial impact on Japanese-US relations. This monograph examines the major factors which may influence Japan's decision on how much to improve its military forces. (Modified author abstract)?291.
