Book excerpt: The first edition of The AGROVOC Editorial Guidelines 2020 (FAO, 2020) was published to share clear, concise and agreed guidelines to guarantee consistency and coherence on selection of concepts and terms. Focus areas included whether to use the singular or plural in each language, how to deal with proper names, scientific names, and geographical names, etc. In 2021, an AGROVOC Editorial Guidelines task force, with members from Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária, Kuratorium für Technik und Bauwesen in der Landwirtschaft e.V. and FAO, continued to deepen editorial discussions, which resulted in the second edition of The AGROVOC Editorial Guidelines 2020. In this second edition, additional guidance has been added on scientific names, spelling, definitions and more. This guide is a set of editorial recommendations for adding content to AGROVOC, with a strong focus on multilingual aspects. The guidelines also apply to sub-vocabularies in AGROVOC.

In particular, it gathers the most significant research from the Italian database community that had relevant intersections with international projects. Big Data technology is currently dominating both the market and research. The book provides readers with a broad overview of key research efforts in modelling, querying and analysing data, which, over the last few decades, have became massive and heterogeneous areas.

Book excerpt: This book presents a collection of representative and novel work in the field of data mining, knowledge discovery, clustering and classification, based on expanded and reworked versions of a selection of the best papers originally presented in French at the EGC 2014 and EGC 2015 conferences held in Rennes (France) in January 2014 and Luxembourg in January 2015. The book is in three parts: The first four chapters discuss optimization considerations in data mining. The second part explores specific quality measures, dissimilarities and ultrametrics. The final chapters focus on semantics, ontologies and social networks. Written for PhD and MSc students, as well as researchers working in the field, it addresses both theoretical and practical aspects of knowledge discovery and management.

Book excerpt: The general objective of the thesis is to provide domain independent, and resource independent methods and tools for speeding up the ontology development process and is achieved by reusing and re-engineering as much as possible available non-ontological resources (NORs). To fulfil this overall goal, we have decomposed it into the following methodological and technological objectives: - The definition of methodological aspects related to the reuse of non-ontological resources for building ontologies. - The definition of methodological aspects related to the re-engineering of non-ontological resources for building ontologies. - The creation of a library of patterns for re-engineering non-ontological resources into ontologies. - The development of a software library, NOR2O, that implements the suggestions given by the re-engineering patterns.

This book was released on 2023-10-06 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the world enters the era of big data, there is a serious need to give a semantic perspective to the data in order to find unseen patterns, derive meaningful information, and make intelligent decisions. Semantic technologies offer the richest machine-interpretable (rather than just machine-processable) and explicit semantics that are being extensively used in various domains and industries. These technologies reduce the problem of large semantic loss in the process of modelling knowledge, and provide sharable, reusable knowledge, and a common understanding of the knowledge. As a result, the interoperability and interconnectivity of the model make it priceless for addressing the issues of querying data. These technologies work with the concepts and relations that are very lose to the working of the human brain. They provide a semantic representation of any data format: unstructured or semi-structured. As a consequence, data becomes real-world entity rather than a string of characters. For these reasons, semantic technologies are highly valuable tools to simplify the existing problems of the industry leading to new opportunities. However, there are some challenges that need to be addressed to make industrial applications and machines smarter. This book aims to provide a roadmap for semantic technologies and highlights the role of these technologies in industry. The book also explores the present and future prospects of these semantic technologies along with providing answers to various questions like: Are semantic technologies useful for the next era (industry 4.0)? Why are semantic technologies so popular and extensively used in the industry? Can semantic technologies make intelligent industrial applications? Which type of problem requires the immediate attention of researchers? Why are semantic technologies very helpful in people’s future lives? This book will potentially serve as an important guide towards the latest industrial applications of semantic technologies for the upcoming generation, and thus becomes a unique resource for scholars, researchers, professionals and practitioners in the field.

It reviews the current standards, protocols and applications in the domain of digital repositories. Special attention is being paid to the interoperability of repositories to enhance the exchange of data in repositories. It aims to stimulate discussion about these topics and supports initiatives for the integration of and, where needed, development of new standards. The authors also take a look at the nearby future: which steps have to be taken now in order to comply with future demands?
