Book Synopsis Entrepreneurship Education and Training Programs around the World by : Alexandria Valerio
Download or read book Entrepreneurship Education and Training Programs around the World written by Alexandria Valerio and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2014-05-06 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Entrepreneurship has attracted global interest for its potential to catalyze economic and social development. Research suggesting that certain entrepreneurial mindsets and skills can be learned has given rise to the field of entrepreneurship education and training (EET). Despite the growth of EET, global knowledge about these programs and their impact remains thin. In response, this study surveys the available literature and program evaluations to propose a Conceptual Framework for understanding the EET program landscape. The study finds that EET today consists of a heterogeneous mix of programs that can be broken into two groups: entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurship training. These programs target a range of participants: secondary and post-secondary education students, as well as potential and practicing entrepreneurs. The outcomes measured by program evaluations are equally diverse but generally fall under the domains of entrepreneurial mindsets and capabilities, entrepreneurial status, and entrepreneurial performance. The dimensions of EET programs vary according the particular target group. Programs targeting secondary education students focus on the development of foundational skills linked to entrepreneurship, while post-secondary education programs emphasize skills related to strategic business planning. Programs targeting potential entrepreneurs generally are embedded within broader support programs and tend to target vulnerable populations for whom employment alternatives may be limited. While programs serving practicing entrepreneurs focus on strengthening entrepreneurs knowledge, skills and business practices, which while unlikely to transform an enterprise in the near term, may accrue benefits to entrepreneurs over time. The study also offers implications for policy and program implementation, emphasizing the importance of clarity about target groups and desired outcomes when making program choices, and sound understanding of extent to which publicly-supported programs offer a broader public good, and compare favorably to policy alternatives for supporting the targeted individuals as well as the overall economic and social objectives.

Download or read book The Manchester Method written by Tudor Rickards and published by Booktango. This book was released on 2016-06-29 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leaders We Deserve monographs are based on over a thousand posts originally published on the Leaders We Deserve blog over the period 2006-2015. The monographs explore a space between the scholarly style of the traditional textbook and the dynamism of the e-format. They offer the possibility of a learning community in which readers and authors are able to interact and influence the contents of the monographs. Each post is linked to theoretical ideas such as charismatic leadership, critical theory, discursive leadership, and corporate social responsibility. Many posts have been taught as mini-business cases within the Manchester Business School executive MBA programmes around the world. The topic of the first monograph which was published in 2015 is The Manchester Method, an approach to experiential learning which has been associated with Manchester Business School for several decades as a means of supporting business education. The monograph updates twelve posts from the perspectives of Business School tutors, leadership researchers and MBA executives. It provides a historical record of the roles played by educational pioneers Grigor McClelland and Reg Revans. Other topics covered include The Manchester Method as Social Networking, The Importance of Communities of Practice, and Creative Leadership and Team Effectiveness.

Book Synopsis Technical Assistance Evaluation Program - Findings of Evaluations and Updated Program - Evaluation of the Technical Assistance Subaccount for Iraq by : International Monetary Fund

This book was released on 2008-04-04 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Key Messages • The Iraq Subaccount is a good example of donor coordination as expressed in the Paris Declaration. • Overall, the TAs funded from the Iraq TA Subaccount were successful, relevant, efficient and effective. • Ensuring long-term sustainability requires maintaining an adequate the level of TA activity in the future. • There were instances where more pro-active donor coordination was needed to build synergies to achieve development results. • While the offsite modality was fairly effective and cost efficient and delivered value for money, the limits of this model will be stretched as IMF moves from policy and operational advice and training to greater emphasis on supporting the implementation of policies and procedures. • The Fund’s internal monitoring needs to be strengthened, particularly the TA Information Management System. Reforms in this area are on track, supported by Fund management, and improvements are expected by 1 May 2008. • The Fund’s TA evaluation framework needs to be strengthened by instituting a system of self assessments of all completed TAs and developing guidelines for the ex-post evaluation of TAs. Work in these areas is planned. • The Fund delivered slightly more internally funded TA to Iraq than originally planned.

Book Synopsis Law and Legalization in Transnational Relations by : Christian Brütsch
Download or read book Law and Legalization in Transnational Relations written by Christian Brütsch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-03-06 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume addresses the emergence of multiple legal and law-like arrangements that alter the interaction between states, their delegated agencies, international organizations and non-state actors in international and transnational politics. Political scientists and legal scholars have been addressing the ‘legalization’ of international regimes and international politics, and engaging in interdisciplinary research on the nature, the causes and the effects of the norm driven controls over different areas and dimensions of global governance. Written by leading contributors in the field, the book claims that the emergence and spread of legal and law-like arrangements contributes to the transformation of world politics, arguing that ‘legalization’ does not only mean that states co-operate in more or less precise, binding and independent regimes, but also that different types of non-state actors can engage in the framing, definition, implementation and enforcement of legal and law-like norms and rules. To capture these diverse observations, the volume provides an interpretative framework that includes the increase in international law-making, the variation of legal and legalized regimes and the differentiation of legal and law-like arrangements. Law and Legalization in Transnational Relations is of interest to students and researchers of international politics, international relations and law.
