Book excerpt: The Cats Be Unemployed A Millennial’s Topsy-Turvy Chase for Gainful Employment; or, A Generation’s Catalog of Conundrums When we are young and un(der)employed, we may find ourselves in desperate or humorous situations trying to chase some cash. We become curious about ourselves and our society and question what it really means to be an “adult.” We begin to compare ourselves to others...or to cats: living back at home, sleeping all day, going crazy, not wearing pants, pawing at that mouse. We are always on the hunt. We are constantly put in boxes. We are frustrated by closed doors. The Cats Be Unemployed takes you through one Millennial’s topsy-turvy chase to find gainful employment after cat walking right into the Great Recession. Kristin’s twenties are spent precariously enduring unemployment five times within a six year span, while fighting through bait and switch scams, unreliable jobs and gig work, questionable policies, rocky relationships, and her own “quarter life crisis.” Through a collection of essays combining personal stories, extensive research, and humor, she examines the socioeconomic landscape this generation lives with, but has the potential to change. She provides insightful analysis on disconnects that surround education, health care, pay rates, company culture, and our perceptions versus realities of the working world. Join Kristin in an eye-opening discovery of the catalog of conundrums aspiring adults face after graduation. The Cats Be Unemployed reflects on and examines socioeconomic issues that aspiring adults encounter constantly: • Grievances and hilarities of being un(der)employed • Disconnects between education and the actualities of the workplace • Counterproductive company cultures • Scams that target the vulnerable • Company drug testing • Stagnating job growth, creation and pay rates • Effects on relationships when lost and broke • Health care options and dilemmas • Frustrations when working with recruiters • Kooky living situations • Coming of age with ever-changing technology and social media • The “Quarter Life Crisis”

Book excerpt: From life coach Kate Gladdin, this easy-to-follow, three-step plan for how to bravely face life’s unexpected challenges is the foolproof solution to developing resilience. When motivational speaker Kate Gladdin was twenty years old, she woke up in the middle of the night to find out her older sister had died in a tragic road accident. Suddenly, everything she knew about her life, her future, and her family shattered in a heartbeat. Just like Gladdin, we all face loss in different ways every day, because adversity is a part of life. There’s no getting around it–only through it–and the most vital tool we need to overcome the unexpected is resilience. It was this realization that led Gladdin to become a resilience expert, life coach, and motivational speaker. Through her own proven three-step strategy using the three Rs–to recognize, reflect, and redirect–she now has the skills to use anytime she feels helpless and wants to take back control over any circumstance she faces. It’s this incredible method that Gladdin teaches in Okay, Now What? She shows readers how to: recognize what’s really causing them to struggle the most, reflect on the impact of that struggle, and finally—the most important step—how to redirect toward finding the resilience they need to grow through what they go through and create good from even the worst moments in life. Resilience isn’t a fixed trait that you are born with, like your eye color or the shape of your toes. Resilience is a skill that any of us can grow and develop with practice, and in Okay, Now What?, you will learn exactly how to do so.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Greeting once again in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. How many of you know God can use any circumstance for the good of his will? I'm a prime example. I truly can witness the truth of that fact. Life's journey took me places I've never been before. This journey brought me to a dead-end road. Just before the dead-end road was two paths, a left path and a right path. The left path was a dark path that represented death, the walls of a coffin. The right path had a light afar off. This light represented life. As I pause for a moment, I chose the right path. This path was the walls of corrections. Behind these walls, I found God and got a close, intimate relationship with him. I was placed behind the walls of correction for three years. The first two years I was transformed into a new person. God changed me by creating in me a new heart and a new spirit and a new way of thinking. He changed my heart of stone into a humble heart. As my intimacy with God grew, I began to have a great appreciation for Almighty God for saving a wreck like me. Over the two years of studying and applying God's Word to my life, I grew to be a servant for the Lord. Beginning the third year of correction, I asked God for permission to do a devotional book in His name. As I prayed about my request during my morning devotion, God led me to the Book of Jeremiah 30:1-2. He conformed to me through the prophet Jeremiah. The Holy Spirit began to work on my behalf. I was inspired by God after he lead me to the Book of Jeremiah. I decided I would name the book "Inspirational Daily Devotional." I let the Holy Spirit lead the entire portion of the book. I was delighted in God using me as one of his servants. So many of God's people will be blessed and inspired by this book. God doesn't make any mistakes. Thank you!

Book excerpt: Literacy educators are often unequipped to help young children contend with the world we inhabit, where linguistic, literate, and cultural pluralism are not always valued or sustained. In fact, educators are routinely bombarded by programs that position literacy as a simple, one-size-fits-all practice. This resource will help pre-K–3 teachers create and interpret literacy teaching processes, practices, and spaces that honor and extend children’s fullness. It is coauthored by three New York City teachers from ethnically, racially, and linguistically diverse schools who share vivid examples and everyday stories from their own classrooms. Grounded in an accessible discussion of the value of culturally sustaining pedagogy and its potential to promote equity in elementary teaching, this book can be used as a practical introduction to CSP practices for early childhood teachers and teacher candidates. Book Features: Focuses on the capabilities of young children and their families, rather than perceived deficits.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "God said what?! " That pretty much summed up Geri's reaction to some of the messages from Spirit. While most made sense, especially "love your neighbor as yourself, " other ideas felt more suited for a science-fiction film. Light beings? Space travel? Angels among us? Possibly even more profound: there are ways to control emotions and reactions to outside influences? We can have better relationships by changing ourselves? Really? Revolutionary stuff here, Geri thought. For years, she wrote about the top story in news shows on television. Today's Top Story is not found in the headlines covering politics, economics, and especially not war. You won't find it on the morning or evening news. Today's top story is found inside each of us. It's the four-letter word: love. When you read this book, you will know unconditional love, and even more, you will feel it. Spirit designed it that way. Geri says she just provided the pen and paper. The Reviews "An amazing gift from Spirit ... the ultimate truths we all are slowly remembering- our connection to one another and our connection to the One. Book excerpt: Wall Street Journal Bestseller Leaders have an unprecedented opportunity to overcome the great disconnect between employers and employees by inviting individuals to become part of something bigger than themselves—to belong. Belonging Rules gives leaders the tools, knowledge, and confidence to harness belonging to address the workplace’s most critical challenges. The need to belong is innate and enduring, yet often elusive. Genuine belonging requires a bold approach, one that offers both depth and credibility to the work required from leaders whose organizations are craving a sense of connection, security, and acceptance. Belonging Rules offers nuanced, direct guidance for navigating both the pre-existing and ever-evolving social and organizational demands of today’s workplace. The five rules within, based on extensive research and application, create a framework to dissect and decode the complex, complicated, and controversial issues of the modern workforce. Executive coach and award-winning management consultant Brad Deutser gives leaders the confidence to address the most critical societal imperative—belonging. His approach doesn’t tell leaders what to do, rather he provides leaders with the how to: Identify the heart of existing power structures and societal mandates Reframe the impact of inclusion at an individual and organizational level Challenge and fundamentally redefine the relationship with diverse stakeholders Leading can be uncomfortable. This guide will empower leaders to shift attention, understanding, and effort toward bridging differences and uniting the “movable middle” which depowers the extremes, driving necessary change and desired performance.
