Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I began part 1 of this book with a condensed version of my autobiography, to give the reader an understanding of my life experience. These experiences brought about many questions as to why, as an African American, I was so restricted in many ways. I’ve spent my entire life trying to find the answer. As a child. I would ask adults ”Why are we so disliked by White people”, and they would just say “It’s because you are Colored”. To me, that was not a legitimate answer. So, I had to search for legitimate answers for myself, that prioritized the rest of my life. I discovered that it is impossible to understand your current status until you can learn your real history. This valet history will never be taught by your oppressor. We have to take it upon ourselves to conduct our own individual studies and research. Our history is so rich and profound that it must be hiddin from us. For, if and when we discover our true and unique history, can we finally be liberated. This liberation will allow us to look within ourselves to bring out our divine and enate abilities to create, innovate, and produce better than any people, in the history of mankind. Not just for the benefit of African descendants, but for the progression of mankind.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carl Allen Hampton is a successful real estate developer in Detroit. Born in rural East Texas as the civil rights era ramped up, he spent most summers with his dad, Bradley, in Detroit. This story unpacks his early years growing up in an extended family and learning valuable life lessons. For some reason, his life seems to always get turned upside down. First was the divorce of his parents, Bradley and Rachel. This dovetails right into the breakup with his childhood girlfriend, Jackie Hunt. Things get worse as he is one of the kids helping to integrate Marshall public schools as a seventh grader. Life seems to settle down, and things seem to go smoothly for a while. He has a new girlfriend, Michelle Burns, who lives the next street over from Jackie. The summer before his senior year at Marshall High School, he’s in Detroit, working at a gas station. He bumps into Felicia Barnes, whom he rode ten-speed bikes with a couple of summers back. She and her friend Van Howard stop by the station where he works to buy gas for Van’s car. The city has worn him out, and he is so ready to go home. The day before he is to fly back to Marshall, he is locked up for grand theft auto! If he thought his life was upside down before he went to jail, the ride is about to get bumpier. Rachel is livid with Bradley when she realizes he has allowed him to drive the eleven hundred miles from Detroit to Marshall alone. He has problems with Michelle when she finds out a young lady named Pam Matthews, from Detroit, who attends Wiley College, made the trip with him. Then all hell breaks loose. This book has it all, romance, heartbreak, suspense, all set in rural East Texas and Detroit.

Book excerpt: Over the past decade, the scientific information on psychology of injury has increased considerably. Despite dramatic advances in physical education of coaches, field of medicine, athletic training, and physical therapy, the sport-related traumatic injuries is our major concern. Athletic injuries, both single and multiple, have a tendency to grow dramatically. Accordingly, prevention of sport-related injuries is a major challenge facing the sport medicine world today. The purpose of this book is to accumulate the latest development in psychological analyses, evaluation, and management of sport-related injuries, including traumatic brain injuries. No two traumatic injuries are alike in mechanism, symptoms, or symptoms resolution. There is still no agreement upon psychological diagnosis and there is no known comprehensive treatment for sport-related injuries for regaining pre-injury status. Physical symptoms resolution is not an indication of "psychological trauma" resolution.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the remarkable story of the creation of a new kind of high school that truly aspires to educate all students to high standards. Believing that a deeply personalized culture can prevent the senseless violence that has invaded many public schools, educators at Souhegan High School in Amherst, New Hampshire set out to create a safe, caring, and academically rigorous school. In this volume, Silva (a teacher) and Mackin (a principal) chronicle their experiences as they worked through the many challenges that ultimately resulted in this extraordinarily successful school. Featuring their honest reflections and the voices of other participants, this book: -- Portrays a real public high school (not a small alternative school) that is successfully implementing most of the reform practices recommended by national reform models. -- Demonstrates how schools can strike a balance between the need for stricter safety measures and the social and emotional needs of each student, thus avoiding violent outbursts in schools. -- Details the school's structure, curriculum, professional culture, and systems of accountability for all students in a heterogeneous, inclusionary setting. -- Describes the use of teaming, advisory groups, exhibitions, and senior projects. -- Provides a working model of the "Breaking Ranks" recommendations, including the importance of "personalization" and democracy in education.

Book excerpt: The finale of an action-packed middle grade fantasy duology about a young Cuban American girl who discovers that she’s one of the nine muses of Greek mythology. Perfect for fans of The Serpent’s Secret, the Aru Shah series, and the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Callie Martinez-Silva is finally getting the hang of this whole goddess within thing. Six months after learning she was one of the nine muses of ancient myth, she and the other junior muses are ready for new adventures. Except first Callie has to go to New York City for the summer to visit her dad, stepmom, and new baby brother. Then the muses get startling news: an unprecedented tenth muse has been awakened somewhere in Queens, putting Callie in the perfect position to help find her. And she’ll have help—thanks to a runaway mold problem in London, Muse Headquarters is moving to the New York Hall of Science. But balancing missions and family-mandated arts camp proves difficult for Callie, especially once mysterious messages from spiders (yikes!) begin to weave a tale of ancient injustice involving Callie’s campmate Ari. Now Callie and her friends have to make a choice: follow orders and find the tenth muse or trust that sometimes fate has other plans.
