Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hunter Allen and Andy Coggan, PhD have completely revised the book that made power meters understandable for amateur and professional cyclists and triathletes. Power meters have become essential tools for competitive cyclists and triathletes. No training tool can unlock as much speed and endurance as a power meter--for those who understand how to interpret their data. A power meter displays and records exactly how much energy a cyclist expends, which lends unprecedented insight into that rider's abilities and fitness. With the proper baseline data, a cyclist can use a power meter to determine race strategy, pacing, and tactics. Training and Racing with a Power Meter makes it possible to exploit the incredible usefulness of the power meter by explaining how to profile strengths and weaknesses, measure fitness and fatigue, optimize workouts, time race readiness, and race using power. This new edition: Enables athletes to predict future performance and time peak form Introduces fatigue profiling, a new testing method to pinpoint weaknesses Includes two training plans to raise functional threshold power and time peaks for race day Offers 75 power-based workouts tuned for specific training goals This updated edition also includes new case studies, a full chapter on triathlon training and racing, and improved 2-color charts and tables throughout. Training and Racing with a Power Meter, will continue to be the definitive guide to the most important training tool ever developed for endurance sports.

This book was released on 2023-09-23 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the archaeological sites and cultural assemblages in the world and presents an archaeological database that has been established through two large-scale research projects conducted between 2010 and 2022. The projects were Replacement of the Neanderthals by Modern Humans (2010–2015) and The Cultural History of PaleoAsia (2016–2022), both of which were carried out with the aid of the Japanese Government. They deal with multi-disciplinary studies of the demise of more archaic hominins and the survival of anatomically modern humans. Although the database is designated PaleoAsiaDB, which may imply a focus on Asia, it incorporates the dataset collected from Africa and Europe by the Replacement of the Neanderthals by Modern Humans project. PaleoAsiaDB provides a list of more than 3,300 sites and 7,600 cultural assemblages of the Middle and Upper Paleolithic (Middle and Late Stone Age) of the Eastern Hemisphere as of 2020. This database is the first attempt of its kind to document the related sites of 200-20ka. The full version of the database is available at the University Museum on the University of Tokyo homepage.

Book excerpt: Drawing on extensive fieldwork in the research community, the book is a focused exploration of discourse patterns of Alto Perené Arawak, with emphasis on conversational structures. The book’s methodological scaffold is based on proposals and insights from multiple research fields, such as comparative conversation analysis, sociology, interactional linguistics, documentary linguistics, anthropological linguistics, and prosodic typology. The interactional patterns of a small Arawak language of Peru are shown to share the common infrastructure reported in the organization of conversation across other languages and cultures. Yet the analysis demonstrates a variety of unique nuances in the organization of interactional behavior of Alto Perené Arawak participants. The peculiarities observed are attributed to the language-specific semiotic resources and participants’ orientation to the local cultural norms. The book’s structured examination of conversational data of a small indigenous language of South America is anticipated to be of utility to linguistic research on understudied non-Western languages.

Book excerpt: This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 5th International Symposium on Computer Music Modeling and Retrieval, CMMR 2008 - Genesis of Meaning in Sound and Music, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in May 2008. The 21 revised full papers presented were specially reviewed and corrected for this proceedings volume. CMMR 2008 seeks to enlarge upon the Sense of Sounds-concept by taking into account the musical structure as a whole. More precisely, the workshop will have as its theme Genesis of Meaning in Sound and Music. The purpose is hereby to establish rigorous research alliances between computer and engineering sciences (information retrieval, programming, acoustics, signal processing) and areas within the humanities (in particular perception, cognition, musicology, philosophy), as well as to globally address the notion of sound meaning and its implications in music, modeling and retrieval.

Guys are urged to get in touch with their "feminine" side at the expense of the traditional attributes that make men "male." Not only has "manliness" become a dirty word in a society of beta males and couch potatoes, but there's actually less and less of it in the blood of too many American men, with studies showing declines in average testoterone levels over the past 20 years. Today's men need a major adjustment of alpha attitude, and "Alpha Male Challenge" is the 10-week plan for reclaiming the masculine, competitive edge guys need to be on top of their game in every aspect of their lives. It's the new blueprint for the "true" Alpha Male--the ideal of masculine excellence today. More than just another fitness book, this three-part exercise, diet, and mind-set overhaul features: the revolutionary MaleScale assessment questionnaire that measures the physical and mental traits that define the true Alpha Male; a step-by-step regimen to develop the Four C's of Alpha Attitude: commitment, confidence, courage, and conscience; the Alpha Wave Basic Training program to build muscle, burn fat, and produce testosterone; the Work Heart/ Play Heart cardio system; and the Alpha Fuel Solution, a convenient approach to food and supplements with simple Fuel Rules based on what the human body was designed to eat over the past 2.5 million years, tweaked with cutting edge innovations. This is a straightforward instruction manual to build the kind of man these hard times demand: ruggedly powerful and supremely confident. It will help guys become more successful in their workouts, in their careers, and even in their relationships, as they learn to embody the everyday heroism of the true Alpha Male.
