Book Synopsis Retrial Queueing Systems by : J. R. Artalejo
Download or read book Retrial Queueing Systems written by J. R. Artalejo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-05-07 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of auto-repeat facilities in telephone systems, as well as the use of random access protocols in computer networks, have led to growing interest in retrial queueing models. Since much of the theory of retrial queues is complex from an analytical viewpoint, with this book the authors give a comprehensive and updated text focusing on approximate techniques and algorithmic methods for solving the analytically intractable models. Retrial Queueing Systems: A Computational Approach also Presents motivating examples in telephone and computer networks. Establishes a comparative analysis of the retrial queues versus standard queues with waiting lines and queues with losses. Integrates a wide range of techniques applied to the main M/G/1 and M/M/c retrial queues, and variants with general retrial times, finite population and the discrete-time case. Surveys basic results of the matrix-analytic formalism and emphasizes the related tools employed in retrial queues. Discusses a few selected retrial queues with QBD, GI/M/1 and M/G/1 structures. Features an abundance of numerical examples, and updates the existing literature. The book is intended for an audience ranging from advanced undergraduates to researchers interested not only in queueing theory, but also in applied probability, stochastic models of the operations research, and engineering. The prerequisite is a graduate course in stochastic processes, and a positive attitude to the algorithmic probability.

Book Synopsis Advances in Queueing Theory, Methods, and Open Problems by : Jewgeni H. Dshalalow
Download or read book Advances in Queueing Theory, Methods, and Open Problems written by Jewgeni H. Dshalalow and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-07-21 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The progress of science and technology has placed Queueing Theory among the most popular disciplines in applied mathematics, operations research, and engineering. Although queueing has been on the scientific market since the beginning of this century, it is still rapidly expanding by capturing new areas in technology. Advances in Queueing provides a comprehensive overview of problems in this enormous area of science and focuses on the most significant methods recently developed. Written by a team of 24 eminent scientists, the book examines stochastic, analytic, and generic methods such as approximations, estimates and bounds, and simulation. The first chapter presents an overview of classical queueing methods from the birth of queues to the seventies. It also contains the most comprehensive bibliography of books on queueing and telecommunications to date. Each of the following chapters surveys recent methods applied to classes of queueing systems and networks followed by a discussion of open problems and future research directions. Advances in Queueing is a practical reference that allows the reader quick access to the latest methods.
Book Synopsis High-Capacity Local and Metropolitan Area Networks by : Guy Pujolle
Download or read book High-Capacity Local and Metropolitan Area Networks written by Guy Pujolle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of this workshop was to review and discuss the state of the art and the latest advances· in the area of 1-10 Gbit/s throughput for local and metropolitan area networks. The first generation of local area networks had throughputs in the range 1-20 Mbit/s. Well-known examples of this first generation networks are the Ethernet and the Token Ring. The second generation of networks allowed throughputs in the range 100-200 Mbit/s. Representatives of this generation are the FDDI double ring and the DQDB (IEEE 802.6) networks. The third generation networks will have throughputs in the range 1-10 Gbit/s. The rapid development and deployment of fiber optics worldwide, as well as the projected emergence of a market for broadband services, have given rise to the development of broadband ISDN standards. Currently, the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) appears to be a viable solution to broadband networks. The possibility of all-optical networks in the future is being examined. This would allow the tapping of approximately 50 terahertz or so available in the lightwave range of the frequency spectrum. It is envisaged that using such a high-speed network it will be feasible to distribute high-quality video to the home, to carry out rapid retrieval of radiological and other scientific images, and to enable multi-media conferencing between various parties.

Changes in teletraffic technology, such as from analog to digital, from dedicated systems to service integrated networks insure a steady increase in teletraffic research activities in the near future. Included in the over 1000 pages of high quality research reports, are six in-depth workshops organized by renown experts in the fields of ATM, stochastic modelling, systems engineering and traffic engineering, future telecom scenarios, teletraffic problems of developing countries, and history of teletraffic. Keynote speakers were given the opportunity of first choices among the papers submitted ensuring excellent quality among the papers included.
Book Synopsis Performance Analysis and Optimization of Inbound Call Centers by : Raik Stolletz
Download or read book Performance Analysis and Optimization of Inbound Call Centers written by Raik Stolletz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The material presented in this book is a result of my work in the field of call center management during the period 1999-2002. The focus is on the perfor mance analysis and optimization of inbound call centers. Since call arrivals and call-handling times are often random in inbound call centers, this thesis concentrates on the performance analysis and optimization using queueing models. This book describes mathematical methods and algorithms to relate the number of agents and telephone trunks of a given call center configuration to technical as well as economic performance measures. This book has been accepted as a PhD thesis in Business Administration at the Technical University of Clausthal, Germany. I am indebted to many people for their support during the process of writing this thesis. First of all, I would like to thank my advisor, Prof. Dr. Stefan Helber, for motivating my research to call center related problems. He gently pushed me in fruitful directions and encouraged me to strike a balance between mathematical results and economic implications. Many other helpful suggestions came from him, and his constructive comments on draft versions of this book are invaluable. I am thankful to him and to Prof. Dr. Rolf Schwinn for refereeing this thesis.

Book Synopsis Multiaccess, Mobility and Teletraffic in Wireless Communications: Volume 5 by : Gordon L. Stüber
Download or read book Multiaccess, Mobility and Teletraffic in Wireless Communications: Volume 5 written by Gordon L. Stüber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The convergence of wireless communication and the Internet is one of the strongest emerging markets in the telecommunications industry. This book consists of a compilation of papers on key issues related to 3G and 4G wireless communications and wireless access to next generation Internet (NGI). Included in Multiaccess, Mobility and Teletraffic for Wireless Communications: Volume 5 are new results on space-time access schemes that can dramatically increase the achievable bit rates of wireless systems, perhaps approaching bandwidth efficiencies in the order of 10 bits/s/Hz. The book also considers broadband wireless access to NGI. Effective management of radio resources in wireless systems is necessary for high spectral efficiency and to support mobility. This book treats issues relating to handoff and channel assignment in cellular frequency reuse systems. In order to achieve quality of service (QoS) expectations in a dynamically changing wireless environment, effective error and QoS control protocols are needed. To guarantee fairness in the access to resources, medium access control (MAC) protocols are needed. Optimization of network resources traffic and mobility models are also needed, along with effective call admission control strategies. All of these topics are covered herein. Finally, this book considers future 3G and 4G wireless systems and highlights the critical challenges that must be overcome to make these systems a commercial reality. Multiaccess, Mobility and Teletraffic for Wireless Communications: Volume 5 is an important book for researchers, students and professionals working in the area of wireless communications and mobile computing.
