Book Synopsis Lea's Chemistry of Cement and Concrete by : Peter Hewlett
Download or read book Lea's Chemistry of Cement and Concrete written by Peter Hewlett and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-11-12 with total page 1092 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lea's Chemistry of Cement and Concrete deals with the chemical and physical properties of cements and concretes and their relation to the practical problems that arise in manufacture and use. As such it is addressed not only to the chemist and those concerned with the science and technology of silicate materials, but also to those interested in the use of concrete in building and civil engineering construction. Much attention is given to the suitability of materials, to the conditions under which concrete can excel and those where it may deteriorate and to the precautionary or remedial measures that can be adopted. First published in 1935, this is the fourth edition and the first to appear since the death of Sir Frederick Lea, the original author. Over the life of the first three editions, this book has become the authority on its subject. The fourth edition is edited by Professor Peter C. Hewlett, Director of the British Board of Agrement and visiting Industrial Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Dundee. Professor Hewlett has brought together a distinguished body of international contributors to produce an edition which is a worthy successor to the previous editions.

Book Synopsis Risk Management Strategies Applied To Environmental Cleanup In Central And Eastern Europe - Proceedings Of The International School Of Innovative Technologies For Cleaning The Environment by : Richard C Ragaini
Download or read book Risk Management Strategies Applied To Environmental Cleanup In Central And Eastern Europe - Proceedings Of The International School Of Innovative Technologies For Cleaning The Environment written by Richard C Ragaini and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-05-27 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book evaluates current technology and policy practices in the United States and Western Europe in the areas of environmental risk assessment, risk prioritization and risk management, and recommends strategies for successful risk management regarding cleanups in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).The primary focus is on the evaluation of proven risk management stategies, which can gain public and regulatory acceptance, and thereby accelerate the demonstration and use of innovative US and host country environmental technologies in CEE. This will, in turn, help to accelerate the use of innovative, cost-effective cleanup systems at US DOE sites, and the use of US environmental technologies in foreign markets. The book emphasizes using risk management strategies as key components of integrated life cycle systems designed to treat hazardous/radioactive waste, and to remediate soil/groundwater plumes. Other topics of discussion include: partnerships with international companies for commercial applications; acceptance by CEE governments; and relationships to other US government initiatives.
Book Synopsis Environmental Aspects of Construction with Waste Materials by : Th.G. Aalbers

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of Sustainable Development, implicating the protection of soil and groundwater, the limitation of waste production and the re-use of soild waste materials is still the leading theme of WASCON '94. Although it is clearly recognized in most countries that products derived from solid waste materials can be applied as construction materials, research is still needed to assess various environmental problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The significant progress achieved in modern instrumental analysis has led to a continuous lowering of detection limits and improved precision. This should in principle permit the reliable and extremely precise analysis of trace compounds mainly trace elements, at levels down to the lowest natural concentrations. However, the frequently observed very high discrepancies between the analyt ical results of different laboratories as well as the deviations from true values are, regrettably, still common in analytical practice. Basic methodological errors at the determination step can usually be minimized or even avoided by carefully per formed quality control measures - e. g. by interlaboratory comparisons and the proper use of certified reference materials. The most severe and often under estimated error sources, however, are those connected with the whole and often extremely complex sampling process, and also to a lesser extent, with sample pre paration prior to analysis. Thus, for these initial steps of an analytical procedure particular experience is needed, as well as a detailed knowledge of the interrela tions between these steps, which always have to be applied with the utmost care. In collaboration with a number of very experienced colleagues working in dif book has tried to contribute to a better ferent research areas, the editor of this understanding of these particular error sources and how they can be overcome in a series of training courses held during the last decade at the "Haus der Technik", Essen, Germany.
