Book Synopsis Introduction to Ultrathin Silica Films by : Shamil Shaikhutdinov
Download or read book Introduction to Ultrathin Silica Films written by Shamil Shaikhutdinov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-08-25 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silica is one of the key materials in many modern technological applications. Further miniaturization of nanoelectronic devices necessitates rational design of ultrathin silica films on electrically conductive substrates. This is the first-ever book on the preparation and atomic-level description of ultrathin silica films grown on metal substrates. Experimental and theoretical studies performed in recent years provide compelling evidence of the growth of well-ordered silica films that exhibit the structural motif of sheet silicates. A growing body of research suggests that a singlelayer silicate, which received the name silicatene by analogy with the famous graphene, should be included in the family of truly two-dimensional materials. In addition, the silicate films modified with metals such as Al and Fe offer a unique possibility to study the surface structures (and hence the surface chemistry) of natural silicates, e.g., clays and zeolites. Finally, ultrathin silica films represent well-defined model systems for elucidating the mechanism of crystal-glass transitions.

Book Synopsis Internal Photoemission Spectroscopy by : Valeri V. Afanas'ev
Download or read book Internal Photoemission Spectroscopy written by Valeri V. Afanas'ev and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2010-07-07 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monographic book addresses the basics of the charge carrier photoemission from one solid to another - the internal photoemission, (IPE) - and different spectroscopic applications of this phenomenon to solid state heterojunctions. This is the first book in the field of IPE, which complements the conventional external photoemission spectroscopy by analysing interfaces separated from the sample surface by a layer of a different solid or liquid. IPE is providing the most straightforward and, therefore, reliable information regarding the energy spectrum of electron states at interfaces. At the same time, the method provides the unique capability of analysing the heterostructures relevant to the modern micro- and nano-electronic devices as well as new materials involved in their design and fabrication. In addition to the discussion of fundamental physical and technical aspects of IPE spectroscopic applications, several "hot topics are addressed. These include development of new insulating materials for advances Si MOS technology (both high-k gate insulators and low-k dielectrics for interconnect insulation), metal gate materials, development of heterostructures based on high-mobility semiconductors, etc. Thanks to a considerable activity in this field over the last few years, the recent results concerning band structure of most important interfaces involving novel materials can now be documented.- First complete description of the internal photoemission phenomena - A practical guide to internal photoemission measurements- Describes reliable energy barrier determination procedures - Surveys trap spectroscopy methods applicable to thin insulating layers- Provides an overview of the most recent results on band structure of high-permittivity insulating materials and their interfaces- Contains a complete collection of reference data on interface band alignment for wide-bandgap insulating materials in contact with metals and semiconductors

This book was released on 2005-11-21 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oxides form a broad subject area of research and technology development which encompasses different disciplines such as materials science, solid state chemistry, physics etc. The aim of this book is to demonstrate the interplay of these fields and to provide an introduction to the techniques and methodologies involving film growth, characterization and device processing. The literature in this field is thus fairly scattered in different research journals covering one or the other aspect of the specific activity. This situation calls for a book that will consolidate this information and thus enable a beginner as well as an expert to get an overall perspective of the field, its foundations, and its projected progress.

Book Synopsis Chemical Solution Deposition of Functional Oxide Thin Films by : Theodor Schneller
Download or read book Chemical Solution Deposition of Functional Oxide Thin Films written by Theodor Schneller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-24 with total page 801 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first text to cover all aspects of solution processed functional oxide thin-films. Chemical Solution Deposition (CSD) comprises all solution based thin- film deposition techniques, which involve chemical reactions of precursors during the formation of the oxide films, i. e. sol-gel type routes, metallo-organic decomposition routes, hybrid routes, etc. While the development of sol-gel type processes for optical coatings on glass by silicon dioxide and titanium dioxide dates from the mid-20th century, the first CSD derived electronic oxide thin films, such as lead zirconate titanate, were prepared in the 1980’s. Since then CSD has emerged as a highly flexible and cost-effective technique for the fabrication of a very wide variety of functional oxide thin films. Application areas include, for example, integrated dielectric capacitors, ferroelectric random access memories, pyroelectric infrared detectors, piezoelectric micro-electromechanical systems, antireflective coatings, optical filters, conducting-, transparent conducting-, and superconducting layers, luminescent coatings, gas sensors, thin film solid-oxide fuel cells, and photoelectrocatalytic solar cells. In the appendix detailed “cooking recipes” for selected material systems are offered.

Book Synopsis Defects in HIgh-k Gate Dielectric Stacks by : Evgeni Gusev
Download or read book Defects in HIgh-k Gate Dielectric Stacks written by Evgeni Gusev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-02-15 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) entitled “Defects in Advanced High-k Dielectric Nano-electronic Semiconductor Devices”, which was held in St. Petersburg, Russia, from July 11 to 14, 2005, was to examine the very complex scientific issues that pertain to the use of advanced high dielectric constant (high-k) materials in next generation semiconductor devices. The special feature of this workshop was focus on an important issue of defects in this novel class of materials. One of the key obstacles to high-k integration into Si nano-technology are the electronic defects in high-k materials. It has been established that defects do exist in high-k dielectrics and they play an important role in device operation. However, very little is known about the nature of the defects or about possible techniques to eliminate, or at least minimize them. Given the absence of a feasible alternative in the near future, well-focused scientific research and aggressive development programs on high-k gate dielectrics and related devices must continue for semiconductor electronics to remain a competitive income producing force in the global market.
Book Synopsis The Oxide Handbook by : G. V. Samsonov
Download or read book The Oxide Handbook written by G. V. Samsonov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The continuous and ever expanding development of high-temperature tech nology involves the use of high -temperature refractory materials and one of the most important classes of these is the oxides, i.e., compounds of elements with oxygen. Oxides are the oldest refractory compounds known in technology and this is connected with their high chemical stability and abundance in nature. In addition to the use of oxides as raw materials for metallurgical processes, the refractoriness, chemical stability, and magnetic and other technically important properties of oxides have been put to use since antiquity. At the present time the importance of oxides as bases of many materials for new technology is substantial and is growing rapidly with the development of processes for the direct conversion of various forms of energy into electrical energy, the development of nuclear technOlogy, electronics, semiconductor and dielectric technOlogy, and cosmic technology, where the refractoriness and chemical stability of oxides are used in combination with their specific physical properties. Oxides are the foundation of the so-called oxygen -containing or oxygen refractory materials, which are fundamental to high-temperature tech nology. Oxides are no less important as the bases of practically all structural ma terials and rocks. A number of oxides are involved in biological processes.
