Book excerpt: Plenty of books about supplier development and application of lean principles in supplier management are available for students, supply chain managers and strategic purchasers. Some of them are excellent and provide complete guide through the complicated and difficult process. Truth is that all of the best books are priced very high and it is not better for the remaining available books written on this topic. The book covers the most important phases of supplier development projects: - selection of suppliers - establishing common understanding of the project and goals - analyzing supplier - baseline process map creation Purpose of this book is to give to a reader overview of the supplier development process in not more than 5000 words. Honestly, the book cannot be compared with the top class supplier development handbooks. The lack of complexity is balanced by lower price.

Book excerpt: Document from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Industrial Management, , language: English, abstract: The strength of the supply chain largely depends upon the strength of the associated suppliers to the organization. Development of the associates is a direct method to improve original equipment manufacturers or buying organizations’ development. Supplier development is associated with many desirable outcomes like cost reduction, time to market, reduced cycle time, improved quality of the product, manufacturing flexibility and knowledge exchange between business partners. Manufacturing sector plays a vital role in the economy of every country for value creation, contribution to the GDP, boosts foreign exchange reserves, employment generation and poverty reduction. This calls for a special focus on manufacturing sector and so as on manufacturing outsourcing value chain. The role of small scale suppliers (SSI) are substantial in providing the competitive edge to the manufacturing organizations. So it is advisable to keep the SSI suppliers’ growth, development and satisfaction high in order to meet the desired operational flexibility, competitive advantage, time to market, increased market share and improved profit by the large scale organizations. Lot of research activities carried out in reference to the supplier development (SD) from buying firm’s perspective. Supplier development models, theoretical frameworks, barriers of SD explored only from the buying organizations view point. Very little research carried out on SD from selling organization point of view and that too in discrete manufacturing sector, it is not witnessed even one. This book is trying to explore the attributes which are affecting directly or indirectly the development of small scale manufacturing sectors to support the overall value chain.

Readers will learn how to integrate the fields of operations management, procurement and purchasing, logistics, and marketing into a successful green supply chain, looking outward to form sustainable partnerships rather than focusing their efforts within the company. Each chapter describes a function or dimension of green supply chains, supplemented with short vignettes to ground the theory in practice. The authors examine various industries, including electronics, food products, and manufacturing, and draw on case studies from the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Oceania, allowing students to compare and contrast domestic and international practices. Blending industry insights with the latest academic thinking, they also consider hot button topics like global–local relationships, the role of third parties, green multitier supplier management, and blockchain technology management. Conclusive chapter summaries and plenty of visual aids help readers retain the information they need to improve environmental performance within, and beyond their organizations. Green Supply Chain Management is an excellent introduction to the topic for students and practitioners of supply chain management and environmental sustainability.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supply Market Intelligence: A Managerial Handbook for Building Sourcing Strategies charts the course to success for executives who are seeking to lead their organizations to supply-chain maturity. This volume is intended for supply-chain executives who struggle with the challenges of an uncertain supply market environment and whose supply chain function is constantly buffeted by unexpected changes in customer requirements and commodity prices. The author offers a more effective path, describing an integrated approach to supply chain management based upon solid market intelligence. This path is derived from the authors' multiple engagements with organizations such as Suncor Energy, Bank of America, Shell Oil, Honda of America, General Motors, Boston Scientific, Visteon, Federal Express, Sonoco, Duke Energy, Caterpillar, John Deere, GlaxoSmithKline, and many others. He emphasizes that the elements of a successful plan do not arise from a simple vision, instead they require much hard work and a focused approach backed by solid leadership. This book begins by defining supply market intelligence and discussing opportunities, the establishment of a project team, and conducting an internal business intelligence assessment. The book then examines the development of business and market intelligence, supplier evaluations, and sourcing strategies. It also explores how to execute a sourcing strategy, manage a strategic supplier relationship, and redesign an organization for effective supply-chain intelligence and strategic sourcing. This volume offers a benchmarking maturity model tool that covers all facets of end-to-end supply-chain management.
