Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Supermarine Spitfire was indeed a remarkable aircraft. It was already a legend in the making when the first Mk I machines began to roll off the assembly lines. The Spitfire was one of the classic British fighters in which the famous few bravely faced the mighty Luftwaffe. Although the Messerschmitt Bf 109 was considered superior in certain areas of flight performance, it was the Spitfire that eventually prevailed and helped crush the numerically superior enemy. In this book the reader will find clearly marked areas of skin sections where flush riveting was used. The Spitfire Mk. IXs, as well as other models of the fighter, were often assembled using a variety of parts, including those originally designed for earlier versions of the fighter. About Top Drawings: This series of highly illustrated books present detailed scale drawings of aircraft and vehicles, with supporting color profile artwork. With detailed captions on the history, combat action and development of each machine, each volume is an exceptional reference tool for modelers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Spitfire XVI is one of the Spitfire mark to have been so far little covered in depth. It was actually a Mk. IX engined with an American built Packard engine but otherwise it was very familar to a IX. It was used in the fighter-bomber role, from the UK with the Fighter Command or from the Continent with the 2 TAF. Of the twenty or so fighter units that flew the Mk.XVI before the end of production, roughly half were from the Dominions and six became operational on the type: four Canadian squadrons of No. 127 (RCAF) Wing of 2 TAF (Nos. 403, 416, 421 and 443), while two Australian squadrons (Nos. 451 and 453) flew their operations from the British Isles under the authority of Fighter Command. The others had been re-equipped by the end of the war in Europe, but only flew this variant for a short time. The Canadian wing achieved considerable success between November 1944 and May 1945, making this unit one of the most active of 2 TAF in the last months of the war in Europe. A previous title in connection with the British has been already published (SQUADRONS! 12).

This book gives the details of the operations carried out by the British squadrons, Nos. 66, 74, 127, 229, 602 and 603. This study doesn't continue beyond the summer 1945. Thirty photos and 5 colour profiles.

Book excerpt: * Beautifully drawn 4-view color profiles The Supermarine Spitfire was an iconic British single-seat fighter aircraft used by the Royal Air Force and many other Allied countries throughout World War II. The Spitfire continued to be used into the 1950s both as a front line fighter and in secondary roles. It was produced in greater numbers than any other British aircraft and was the only Allied fighter in production throughout the war. There were 24 marks of Spitfire and many sub-variants. These covered the Spitfire in development from the Merlin to Griffon engines, the high-speed photo-reconnaissance variants and the different wing configurations. The Mk XVIe was produced during the latter half of World War II and was created as an improvement on the Mk IX Spitfire. With the introduction of the Packard Merlin engine, the Mk XVIe was a noteworthy addition to Britain's fighter aircrafts. About Topcolors This is a series of highly illustrated books on the key machines of World War II and their combat use. Perfect for modelers and filled with color artwork profiles, each volume details the camouflage, markings, insignia, modifications and variants of the best of the war.

Book excerpt: This aviation handbook is designed to be used as a quick reference to the classic military heritage aircraft that have been flown by members of the Canadian Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force, Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army and the present-day Canadian Forces. The interested reader will find useful information and a few technical details on most of the military aircraft that have been in service with active Canadian squadrons both at home and overseas. 100 selected photographs have been included to illustrate a few of the major examples in addition to the serial numbers assigned to Canadian service aircraft. For those who like to actually see the aircraft concerned, aviation museum locations, addresses and contact phone numbers have been included, along with a list of aircraft held in each museum's current inventory or on display as gate guardians throughout Canada and overseas. The aircraft presented in this edition are listed alphabetically by manufacturer, number and type. Although many of Canada's heritage warplanes have completely disappeared, a few have been carefully collected, restored and preserved, and some have even been restored to flying condition. This guide-book should help you to find and view Canada's Warplane survivors.

Book excerpt: The true account of the life of 485 New Zealand Spitfire Squadron sergeant pilot from South Auckland, who in the words of fellow WW2 fighter pilot Johnnie Houlton,, was a happy-go-lucky type, with a gift for getting himself into trouble without even trying. In the words of another friend and pilot, Max Collett, he was as mad as a March hare...! As an average young colonial lad exemplifying exuberance in youth, the author's namesake, Clinton McInnes, would challenge his father in stepping up to the challenges and hardships of the war, and ultimately life itself ...... He would achieve his aspiration and dream of flying for his hoped for squadron, along with finally being awarded Pilot Officer status. In living his young life to the full he would discover friendship and his love in family, to leave his mark for posterity. In so doing he would unwittingly prove Pilot Officer Prune's contention that apples, if they were our genes, do not fall far from their tree.
