Book Synopsis Superconductivity Research Horizons by : Eugene H. Peterson
Download or read book Superconductivity Research Horizons written by Eugene H. Peterson and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superconductivity is the ability of certain materials to conduct electrical current with no resistance and extremely low losses. High temperature superconductors, such as La2-xSrxCuOx (Tc=40K) and YBa2Cu3O7-x (Tc=90K), were discovered in 1987 and have been actively studied since. In spite of an intense, world-wide, research effort during this time, a complete understanding of the copper oxide (cuprate) materials is still lacking. Many fundamental questions are unanswered, particularly the mechanism by which high-Tc superconductivity occurs. More broadly, the cuprates are in a class of solids with strong electron-electron interactions. This important book brings together leading research in this dynamic field.

An understanding of such "strongly correlated" solids is perhaps the major unsolved problem of condensed matter physics with over ten thousand researchers working on this topic. High-Tc superconductors also have significant potential for applications in technologies ranging from electric power generation and transmission to digital electronics. This ability to carry large amounts of current can be applied to electric power devices such as motors and generators, and to electricity transmission in power lines. For example, superconductors can carry as much as 100 times the amount of electricity of ordinary copper or aluminium wires of the same size. Many universities, research institutes and companies are working to develop high-Tc superconductivity applications and considerable progress has been made. This volume brings together new leading-edge research in the field.

Download or read book Studies of High Temperature Superconductors written by A. V. Narlikar and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 1993 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six papers by physicists from the Japan, India, Brazil and the US address some of the broad frontal issues of superconductivity, which include the mechanisms of high-temperature superconductivity, extra-high-temperature phenomena, the normal state pseudogap, the observations of the isotope effect in a host of different superconducting systems and their explanations, and the unusual features of strongly correlated electron systems like heavy fermions. Two extended papers explore the importance of positron annihilation and using electron spin resonance techniques to study superconducting materials. The treatments should be accessible to working scientists and engineers and to graduate students of physics, chemistry, materials science, solid-state electronics, and other disciplines.

Book Synopsis Superconductivity by : V. L. Ginzburg
Download or read book Superconductivity written by V. L. Ginzburg and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is superconductivity? How was it discovered? What are the properties of superconductors, how are they applied now, and how are they likely to become widely used in the near future? These are just some of the questions which this important book sets out to answer. Starting with the discovery of superconductivity over ninety years ago, the book guides the readers through the many years of subsequent exploration, right up to the latest sensational findings. Written in a lively, nontechnical style, this book makes ideal background reading for any school or college level study of superconductivity. The authors, who are leading authorities in the field, paint detailed pictures of the phenomena involved without mathematical formalism, appealing instead to physical intuition.
