Book Synopsis Photon and Particle Interactions with Surfaces in Space by : R.J.L. Grard
Download or read book Photon and Particle Interactions with Surfaces in Space written by R.J.L. Grard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 6th ESLAB Symposium, organised by the Space Science Department (formerly ESLAB) of the European Space Research and Technology Center, was held in Noord wijk from 26-29 September 1972. This year the theme was "Photon and Particle Interactions with Surfaces in Space". More than 60 scientists attended mainly from ESRO Member States and from America. The first part of the Symposium was devoted to introductory lectures and to papers on interactions with spacecraft. The second half dealt with the photon and particle interactions with celestial objects, and ended with a general discussion and presenta tions of areas where new developments are required. The purpose of this Symposium was to throw light on the importance of the prob lems which are evoked by E. A. Trendelenburg in his introductory remarks, and to sum up our present understanding of these phenomena. It is hoped that this book will prove useful to physicists and engineers who are actually involved in space ex periments and are concerned with interactions of these types. R. J. L. GRARD OPENING ADDRESS Gentlemen, I should like to welcome you to the 6th ESLAB Symposium. In the past we have always organised this Symposium jointly with our sister in stitute, ESRIN, in Frascati, but unfortunately reductions in the scientific budget have forced ESRO to terminate the activities of that laboratory. Nevertheless, we have decided to carryon the tradition, and we shall continue on our own organising this series of symposia on specialised subjects.
Book Synopsis Pile Construction Technology by : Mangushev R.A.
Download or read book Pile Construction Technology written by Mangushev R.A. and published by ASV Construction. This book was released on 2016-10-19 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pile construction technologies are considered in the context of the compact urban development in case of new construction and reconstruction. Their advantages and disadvantages are set forth. The pile pe-netration technology using the jacking-down method is discussed. Special consideration is given to the modern technology of constructing replacement and displacement piles. Besides, screw steel piles are discussed that recently have been brought into active use in production and civil con-struction including the construction of foundations for country and low-rise houses. The last chapter is dedicated to the quality control of piling works. The Appendices to this Manual include the technical features of rigs and accessories for the penetration of driven, jacked, screw, replacement and displacement piles. This Manual is intended for the students of civil construction institu-tions of higher education who study building disciplines, students of up-grading qualification institutes and engineers and technicians who specialize in geotechnical engineering.
Book Synopsis Modeling Magnetospheric Plasma by : T. E. Moore
Download or read book Modeling Magnetospheric Plasma written by T. E. Moore and published by American Geophysical Union. This book was released on 1988 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geophysical Monograph Series, Volume 44. Existing models of the plasma distribution and dynamics in magnetosphere / ionosphere systems form a patchwork quilt of different techniques and boundaries chosen to define tractable problems. With increasing sophistication in both observational and modeling techniques has come the desire to overcome these limitations and strive for a more unified description of these systems. On the observational side, we have recently acquired routine access to diagnostic information on the lowest energy bulk plasma, completing our view of the plasma and making possible comparisons with magnetohydrodynamic calculations of plasma moments. On the theoretical side, rising computational capabilities and shrewdly designed computational techniques have permitted the first attacks on the global structure of the magnetosphere. Similar advances in the modeling of neutral atmospheric circulation suggest an emergent capability to globally treat the coupling between plasma and neutral gases. Simultaneously, computer simulation has proven to be a very useful tool for understanding magnetospheric behaviors on smaller space and time scales.
Book Synopsis Interball in the ISTP Program by : David Gary Sibeck
Download or read book Interball in the ISTP Program written by David Gary Sibeck and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An up-to-date progress report on the current status of solar-terrestrial relation studies with an emphasis on observations by the Russian Interball spacecraft and the Czech Magion subsatellites. Papers in the volume describe the various spacecraft in the International Solar-Terrestrial Program and the research questions that they are being used to address. The emphasis is on correlative studies employing multiple instruments and multiple spacecraft. The book begins with a description of each spacecraft active in 1998 and describes the roles they can play in correlative studies. This is followed by an up-to-date status report concerning ongoing studies of the solar wind, foreshock, bow shock, magnetopause, magnetotail, and ionosphere, with an emphasis on the observations made by the four Interball spacecraft. Readership: Researchers and graduate students of space physics and astrophysics.

Book Synopsis Magnetospheric Research with Advanced Techniques by : R.L. Xu
Download or read book Magnetospheric Research with Advanced Techniques written by R.L. Xu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-09-23 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Launches of several major magnetospheric research satellites (i.e., Polar, Wind, and Interball) set the scene for extensive multi-platform investigations of the Earth's plasma environment in the era of the International Solar-Terrestrial Physics Program. Exciting new results from this Program and the ongoing innovative advances to scientific instrumentation and spacecraft technology are vitally important for the international space community in preparing for future plans in the upcoming new millenium. This volume is a product of the COSPAR Colloquium held in Beijing on April 15-19, 1996 aimed to consolidate these achievements. It contains state-of-the-art articles in the four areas of modern magnetospheric techniques, namely, (1) active experiment in space, (2) innovative measurement technique, (3) multi-point observation, and (4) numerical simulation and theoretical analysis. Researchers in the space community, both novices and experts, are expected to benefit from this collection of articles.
Book Synopsis Cometography: Volume 2, 1800-1899 by : Gary W. Kronk
Download or read book Cometography: Volume 2, 1800-1899 written by Gary W. Kronk and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 880 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cometography is a four-volume catalog of every comet observed throughout history. Volume II provides a complete discussion of every comet seen during the nineteenth century. Cometography uses the most reliable orbits known to determine the distances from the Earth and Sun at the time a comet was discovered and last observed, as well as the largest and smallest angular distance to the Sun, most northerly and southerly declination, closest distance to the Earth, and other details to enable the reader to understand the physical appearance of each well-observed comet. The book also provides non-technical details to help the reader better appreciate how the comet may have influenced various cultures at the time of its appearance. Cometography will be valuable to historians of science as well as providing amateur and professional astronomers with a definitive reference on comets through the ages.
