Navigating the complexities of small town life, Callie undertakes a daunting home renovation, makes new friends, and eats more than her fair share of delicious food...all while trying not to meddle in the lives of others. The only thing hindering her search for happiness is the attraction she feels for Nick, a rough-around-the-edges construction worker who is determined to get under Callie's skin. Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author Catherine Anderson explores the history of the beloved Coulter Family with this timeless tale that will make you believe in the power of love… The year is 1889, and Rachel Hollister hasn’t set foot outside her house in five years. Ever since a savage attack left her family dead, she’s cordoned herself off from the outside world, afraid to let anyone into her home—or into her heart. But now trouble has appeared on her doorstep—and suddenly she has no choice but to let a handsome rancher invade her well-guarded existence... Confirmed bachelor Joseph Paxton grudgingly offers to take up temporary residence at the Hollister ranch—even though it’s obvious that Rachel doesn’t want his protection. But once he catches a glimpse of his beautiful young ward and her remarkable spirit, he’ll do anything to make her see the refuge he’s offering in his embrace—and the splendor that exists beyond her front door. Otherwise he’ll just have to build a safe haven big enough for the both of them.

Book excerpt: In book two of this fiction series based on the best-selling non-fiction book The Four Seasons of Marriage, readers meet the blended family of Derek and Kim Finley. Kim has a set of twins—one boy and one girl—from her first marriage; Luke has recently been diagnosed with diabetes, and Lydia is acting out as a result of the attention now being showered on Luke. To complicate matters, Derek’s overbearing mother comes to live with them. With all that’s going on in their lives, Kim and Derek’s communication begins to break down and their marriage slowly moves into winter. Although the second book will focus on Kim and Derek, readers will also encounter all their favorite characters—Patsy Pringle, Pete Roberts, Steve and Brenda, Esther and Charlie—as well as some new ones, like the proprietor of the new sandwich shop that’s moved in next to Patsy’s beauty parlor. The series is based on the marriage principles found in Gary Chapman’s non-fiction book The Four Seasons of Marriage. Similar in tone and light-hearted, quirky humor as Jan Karon’s Mitford series, Fannie Flagg’s books or Steel Magnolias. Each book has a study guide that talks about the four seasons of marriage and the healing strategies depicted in that volume’s story.

Nothing could stop her from taking the crown, until disaster walked into her life. Elisha's coach, Clarence Yates fell to his knees during Elisha's rehearsal. It seemed as though his years of fast-paced pageantry work had finally caught up with him. Distraught, Elisha turns to her best friend and fellow pageant contestant, Luciana for support, only to find that Luciana has been taking prescription sleeping pills to deal with the stress of the pageant and school. Weeks before the pageant, Luciana finds out she didn't get into Juilliard as her parents planned. Unable to handle the pressure, Luciana overdoses on sleeping pills and won't come out of a coma. As Elisha searches for strength, she finds comfort in one of her professors, Eric Turner. Eric steps right in, happily comforting Elisha and even acting as her coach. The relationship quickly grows into a smothering romance. Elisha works to keep it all together, but becomes suspicious of those closest to her. She begins to wonder if Luciana's death was suicide or the perfect crime. And could it have been related to Clarence's death? In this twisted story, A Late Summer's Breeze, Elisha learns some people will do anything for love.

Book excerpt: Thirty-year-old Charlotte Wheelwright seems to have at last found her niche, running an organic gardening business on the island of Nantucket, thanks in large part to her spry grandmother Nona, who donated a portion of land on the family’s seaside compound to get Charlotte started. Though Charlotte’s skill with plants is bringing her success, cultivating something deeper with people—particularly her handsome neighbor Coop—might be more of a challenge. Now the entire Wheelwright clan is making its annual summer pilgrimage to the homestead, including Charlotte’s mother, Helen, who brings a heavy heart as she confronts a betrayal that threatens her sense of place and her sense of self. Bringing together three generations of strong-willed women, each wrestling with life-changing decisions, Nancy Thayer’s luminous novel shows that no matter where life’s path may lead, love always finds a way back home.

There's one problem though, Cage is under the disillusion that when he's through sowing his wild oats, he's going to marry Low - an assumption Marcus intends to change. Air pollution and smog, also the distribution of airborne insect pests and the spread of pollen are all controlled by the sea breeze. In the world of sport it is important to glider pilots, sailors and surfers, and balloonists. In the book we see how radar, lidar and satellite photography have helped to forecast and map sea breezes and the all-important 'sea-breeze front'. The book ends with a description of laboratory experiments mostly carried out by the author and his co-workers, and a simple summary of theoretical models. The book will be welcomed by those researching in the subject but will also be valuable to the general reader who is interested in local weather and the natural environment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The diurnal fluctuations of the surface ambient wind associated with the sea-breeze are analyzed for the period May 01 through September 30, 1993 from a single station, Monterey airport, located on the southern Monterey Bay coast. Data analyzed included time series of wind speed, wind direction, clouds, precipitation and locally generated 3 hourly surface pressure analyses of California and the Pacific northwest. The characteristics of the sea-breeze circulation under varying synoptic-scale patterns are evaluated to determine the modifying roles of boundary layer stability, surface inversion strength, and low-level cloud amount on the resultant time of onset and peak intensity of the Monterey Bay sea-breeze. The primary modifying factor under all synoptic-scale pressure patterns was the boundary layer depth and stability with the differential heating taking longer to destabilize the boundary layer during the Trough regime.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sea breeze events on the Monterey Bay are examined from a single station at the mouth of the Salinas Valley. Data analyzed are continuous, two- minute meteorological samples of windspeed, wind direction, temperature, dew point, incoming shortwave irradiance, and incoming longwave irradiance. A speed index is defined using the average hourly maximum and minimum windspeeds oriented in the cross-shore direction thereby reflecting the thermally induced diurnal windspeed enhancement. Large-scale effects on this mesoscale circulation are presented through evaluation of changes in boundary layer depth with changes in speed index. Changes in boundary layer depth as reflected in trends of inland stratus penetration and offshore flow provide insight for anticipating sea breeze intensity.
