This book was released on 2019-05-09 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given its geographical expanse, Canada has always faced long-term transport policy issues and challenges. Canadian Multi-Modal Transport Policy and Governance explains how and why Canadian transportation policy and related governance changed from the Pierre Trudeau era through the Chretien, Martin, Mulroney, Harper, and Justin Trudeau eras. With particular attention paid to the diversity and ongoing evolution of transportation policy since the 1960s, the broad distribution of regulatory authority across different levels of government, and the politicization of regulatory regimes and investment decisions since the 1970s, Doern, Coleman, and Prentice attempt to answer three critical questions: How and to what extent have policy and governance changed over the decades? Where has transport policy resided in federal policy agendas? And is Canada developing the policies, institutions, and capacities it needs to have a socio-economically viable and technologically advanced transportation system for the medium and long term? A sweeping history of transportation policy in Canada that fills a gap in the existing literature, Canadian Multi-Modal Transport Policy and Governance concludes that transportation has been subordinate to other federal goals and priorities, delaying and eroding transport systems into the twenty-first century.

Book Synopsis Christmas Turkey Or Prairie Vulture? by : David R. Harvey
Download or read book Christmas Turkey Or Prairie Vulture? written by David R. Harvey and published by IRPP. This book was released on 1980 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Foreword: Dr. Harvey deals with one of the oldest problems of the Prairie provinces: the carriage of grain to world markets efficiently and at low cost to the producer...The problem is how to reform the system without injury to the Prairie economy and unfairness to the producers. Dr. Harvey argues that a change in system is indeed possible, with benefit to grain producers, to the agricultural economy of the West, to the taxpayers of Canada - and possibly even to the railways. He recognizes that compensation must be paid to grain producers if freight rates for the movement of grain are increased to an economic level. He proposes a method of compensation that, he thinks, will permit economic forces to produce a net benefit to western agriculture, and will result in an increase in Pairie income and a diversification of the western economy.

Book Synopsis The Canadian Wheat Board by : Andrew Schmitz
Download or read book The Canadian Wheat Board written by Andrew Schmitz and published by University of Regina Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Canadian Wheat Board is a monopoly seller of western Canadian wheat, durum, and barley for human consumption, and feed wheat for export. In this study, the authors first examine Canada's position in the world wheat & barley markets and the Board's role relative to multinational grain companies (MGCs). Chapter 3 presents the regulatory framework governing the Canadian grain industry. The single- desk selling concept of the Board is examined from a theoretical perspective in chapter 4. This chapter also describes the structure of the world wheat & barley trade in which MGCs play key roles. Recent changes in government policies in the US, the European Union, and Canada are discussed in chapter 5. Chapter 6 discusses state trading in grain, the World Trade Organization (WTO) attempts to discipline state trading enterprises, and the Board's impact on trade in the WTO context. Chapter 7 covers the numerous confrontations concerning Canada-US grain trade. Chapter 8 focuses on the debate over creation of a dual market for feed barley. Chapter 9 examines the Charter of Rights case brought against the Board by barley producers & organizations. The focus of chapter 10 is grain transportation, its regulatory framework, and the Board's roles in the grain transportation system. Chapter 11 examines the Board's economic performance. Chapter 12 discusses the marketing of flax and canola in order to better understand how the Board can achieve price premiums and eliminate inefficiencies when marketing grains. The Board's ability to introduce additional price & marketing flexibility is discussed in chapter 13, including the implications of providing the option for using futures markets. Chapter 14 explores the debate over dual marketing and its viability for western Canadian grain producers. The final chapter draws overall conclusions.
