Book Synopsis Integrated Water Resources Research by : Jason A. Hubbart

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anthropogenic and natural disturbances to freshwater quantity and quality are a greater issue for society than ever before. To successfully restore water resources requires understanding the interactions between hydrology, climate, land use, water quality, ecology, and social and economic pressures. This Special Issue of Water includes cutting edge research broadly addressing investigative areas related to experimental study designs and modeling, freshwater pollutants of concern, and human dimensions of water use and management. Results demonstrate the immense, globally transferable value of the experimental watershed approach, the relevance and critical importance of current integrated studies of pollutants of concern, and the imperative to include human sociological and economic processes in water resources investigations. In spite of the latest progress, as demonstrated in this Special Issue, managers remain insufficiently informed to make the best water resource decisions amidst combined influences of land use change, rapid ongoing human population growth, and changing environmental conditions. There is, thus, a persistent need for further advancements in integrated and interdisciplinary research to improve the scientific understanding, management, and future sustainability of water resources.

Book Synopsis Theoretical Investigation and Application of Transonic Similarity Law for Two Dimensional Flow by : William Perl
Download or read book Theoretical Investigation and Application of Transonic Similarity Law for Two Dimensional Flow written by William Perl and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transonic similarity law for two-dimensional flow derived by von Karman was investigated by an iteration procedure similar to that of the Rayleigh-Janzen and Ackeret-Prandtl-Glauert methods. The results, which show that the potential can be expressed as a power series in a single parameter that depends on Mach number, thickness ratio, and ratio of specific heats, are in agreement with those of von Karman. By the iteration procedure, the second approximation for the flow past a Kaplan section was obtained in similarity form. The exact solution by Kaplan for the second approximation was examined and found expressible in the same similarity form. The exact numerical results to three approximations obtained by Kaplan for the Kaplan section and the circular arc have been reduced to transonic similarity form.

Book Synopsis Further Experiments on Impact-pressure Probes in a Low-density, Hypervelocity Flow by : A. B. Bailey
Download or read book Further Experiments on Impact-pressure Probes in a Low-density, Hypervelocity Flow written by A. B. Bailey and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the behavior of flat-faced, impact-pressure probes with a range of orificeto-probe diameter ratios was made in heated A under conditions where free stream Mach. = 4 to 14, gas temperature = 2700 to 4300 K, and Reynolds number (based on outside probe diameter and conditions behind a normal shock)/in. = 30 to 430. At the lower Reynolds numbers the measured impact pressure was found to decrease with the pressure sensing orifice size. This result agrees with that found in heated N. As the Reynolds number increased this orifice effect became less significant, and at the higher Reynolds numbers no decrease in measured impact pressure was noted for the smallest orifice tested. This tends to confirm the assumption made in some experiments on impact-pressure probes in a low-density hypervelocity flow (AD-268 391) that this behavior is caused by a thermomolecular flow effect. Because this effect is a function solely of pressure at a particular temperature, the greater the pressure the smaller the effect. When Re2 times the square root of density in free stream over density in normal shock is less than 800 in A the measured impact pressure was less than the true impact pressure and decreased to a minimum value, approximately 93% of the true value. As the Reynolds number decreased still further, the viscous effects became dominant, and there was a sharp increase in the measured impact pressure. (Author).s
