Book excerpt: Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, regularly produces the Statistical Requirements Compendium (SRC). Over the years, the publication has established itself as a central reference guide for the EU acquis in statistics. The SRC is updated annually and gives a broad overview of the key information required for comprehensive European statistical production. The structure is similar for all subject areas it provides a short description for each statistical domain and lists current legal acts, legal acts foreseen to enter into force during the reference year of the SRC and other relevant documents for the compilation of statistics. It also includes methodological information, data delivery requirements and lists relevant international organisations that cooperate in the particular subject area. This document therefore offers much needed information when carrying out or planning statistical activities in statistical producing organisations. The main purpose of the presenting order of the subject areas in the SRC is to provide a stable classification of statistical domains and their data requirements, recognisable for many users. This could then be easily transferred to similar processes and purposes and serve as a useful source when conducting compliance monitoring. Countries that are part of the European Statistical System (ESS) or countries for which there are obligations to provide data to Eurostat are the focal point of the SRC. For countries that aspire to membership of the European Union and/or the ESS, for example candidate countries and potential candidates, the SRC is widely used as guideline for their annual work programmes and to assess the compliance level they have with the EU acquis in statistics. This 2022 edition of the Statistical Requirements Compendium was produced by Eurostat Unit B3: "Enlargement, neighbourhood and development cooperation" with kind assistance from our IPA trainee Ms Silvana Shehu from the Statistical Office of Albania. As always, work has been done in close cooperation with relevant units in Eurostat and finalized by Unit B4: "Dissemination and user support". We are extremely grateful for all contributions and support from everyone involved - their input is indispensable for the compilation of this publication.
