The techniques described explore ways to photograph virtually any creature, whether terrestrial, marine or from freshwater. All the key elements to achieve extreme close-ups are built in a clear way, for both outdoor and studio use, and special attention is given to focus stacking, with both software and further enhancements covered. Topics covered include an explanation of the equipment and techniques needed to gain extreme close-ups; advice on different lighting and support equipment, including the practicalities of tanks and aquatic organisms; suggestions on how to achieve sharpness, detail and ultimate depth of field; and coverage of all aspects of focus stacking with ideas for improvement. Step-by-step examples cover a wide range of wildlife. Superbly illustrated with 219 colour photographs.

Book excerpt: An in-depth, full-color, step-by-step guide to the new golf swing that has taken the PGA Tour by storm The traditional golf swing requires a level of coordination that few golfers have. So it's no surprise that, despite huge advances in club and ball technology, the average golf handicap in America has dropped by only one stroke since 1990. Maverick golf instructors Michael Bennett and Andy Plummer spent a decade researching the swing, eventually combining physiology and physics to create a method they dubbed the "Stack and Tilt." The result? Big-name pros like Mike Weir, Tommy Armour III, and Aaron Baddeley are already converts, and Bennett and Plummer are now two of the most soughtafter swing coaches in the game. Making these breakthroughs available to everyone, The Stack and Tilt Swing is a handsome, fully illustrated, complete course, packed with more than two hundred full-color photographs that make it easy for golfers at all levels to adopt this radical yet simple approach. Analyzing why the traditional swing won't work for most golfers, the authors explain the importance of keeping the upper body stacked over the lower body, while the spine tilts toward the target during the backswing, greatly reducing the inconsistencies created by the old-fashioned approach. Enhanced with practice routines, a troubleshooting list, test cases, and point-by-point assistance, this is the breakthrough guide to golf's hot new secret weapon.

Book excerpt: If you have always been drawn to word, have vivid imagination, and possess knack for putting your mental pictures into words, you have probably been drawn to, or tried your hand at writing, one or more times in your life. Every day we see the newly released books hitting the shelves or e-books becoming available online, and we are compelled to consider what it takes to turn our way with words into a vessel which is able to transport us to greatness as authors. Effective writers, both past and current, whom have left a literary mark of depth and inspiration upon the world, have a way of thinking which differs from others around them. Like anyone who is filled with creative drive, their thought processes may seem a little off, but it is their acceptance of this fact and their willingness to publicly embrace their own psychology that has taken them where they are today. So, do you think like an individual who has the potential to be a writer of renown, one who will leave a permanent mark on the hearts and minds of those who enter your written world? Here we will review the way great writers think and the way they process and respond to their own thoughts, and we will show the parallels between these characteristics and the brilliant works they produce. Read on to find out where you stand psychologically and how your psychological make-up stacks up to that of a consistently successful and sought after writer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did two teenagers brutally murder an innocent child...and why? And how did their brilliant lawyer save them from the death penalty in 1920s Chicago? Written by a prolific master of narrative nonfiction, this is a compulsively readable true-crime story based on an event dubbed the "crime of the century." In 1924, eighteen-year-old college students Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb made a decision: they would commit the perfect crime by kidnapping and murdering a child they both knew. But they made one crucial error: as they were disposing of the body of young Bobby Franks, whom they had bludgeoned to death, Nathan's eyeglasses fell from his jacket pocket. Multi-award-winning author Candace Fleming depicts every twist and turn of this harrowing case--how two wealthy, brilliant young men planned and committed what became known as the crime of the century, how they were caught, why they confessed, and how the renowned criminal defense attorney Clarence Darrow enabled them to avoid the death penalty. Following on the success of such books as The Rise and Fall of Charles Lindbergh and The Family Romanov, this acclaimed nonfiction writer brings to heart-stopping life one of the most notorious crimes in our country's history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Stack Model Method—An Intuitive and Creative Approach to Solving Word Problems (Grades 3–4) is the first title of a two-book series in Singapore math publishing, which comprehensively reveals the beauty and power of the stack model method as an intuitive and creative problem-solving strategy in solving non-routine questions and challenging word problems. Like the Singapore's bar model method, the stack model method allows word problems that were traditionally read in higher grades to be set in lower grades. The stack model method empowers younger readers with the higher-order thinking skills needed to solve word problems much earlier than they would normally acquire in school. Singapore's stack model method is a more creative and intuitive visualization problem-solving strategy than the bar model method. Brain-unfriendly word problems that are bar-model-unfriendly tend to lend themselves easily to the stack model method. Features of the Singapore math playbook are: ● Look-See Proofs for Kids ● Visible Thinking in Mathematics ● Advanced Visual Literacy ● Creative and Higher-Order Thinking Skills ● Alternative Solutions and Thought Processes The Stack Model Method would benefit all grades 3–4 students, teachers, and parents, as they acquaint themselves with this visualization problem-solving strategy to solve both routine and non-routine questions, while indirectly helping them to enhance their creative thinking and problem-solving skills in mathematics. Learn what the best grades 3–4 students in Singapore do in elementary math—you too can learn to solve the types of challenging questions they deal with every day in local schools and tuition centers island-wide.
