Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the book I Am Someone Special, the author shares the story of her dysfunctional childhoodher journey through the road of drug addiction and drug dealing and how she struggled to leave her dark past behind and move on to a new and better life. Ms. Hernandez did not experience the kind of childhood others enjoy by being adopted into a wealthy, well-off family. She failed to receive the affection she wanted from her parents, particularly from her adoptive mother. The author was the youngest among seven children and the one who received the worst treatment from her alcoholic mother, who was also addicted to drugs. Her birthmother had stabbed her in the head when she was a nine-month-old baby. After an incident that almost robbed the author of her life, she was placed into an orphanage, where her adoptive parents rescued her. The authors adoptive family gave her the love she had long wanted, along with everything she and her adopted brother and sister could ask for. But despite it all, Ms. Hernandez became rebellious, especially as a teenager. Her rebellious teenage years eventually led her to the wrong path as she started using drugs and selling it as well. She worked further into the drug business until she got caught and sentenced for a couple years in prison. After serving her sentence, the author strived to live a clean life and start anew. With the help of her faith in God and the support of the man she loves, she managed to reinvent herself into a better and strong person. I Am Someone Special might appeal to a reader interested in stories that have changed the lives of individuals who recovered from drug addiction and made the decision to rebuild their lives away from drugs. If you would like to get ahold of the author for questions or for advice, contact her through [email protected]. You can buy my books at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Books-A-Million.

Book excerpt: SOMEONE SPECIAL by Sheila O'Flanagan is an enthralling novel about families, friends and finding love that should not be missed by readers of Veronica Henry and Marian Keyes. Romy Kilkenny loves her life in Australia - she has her dream job, a fun lifestyle, and best friend Keith who understands her better than anyone. Best of all, she couldn't be further from her family. But when a phone call summons her home at short notice, Romy's world is turned upside down. Romy has never fitted in, and with Keith too far away to give comfort, she feels like more of an outsider than ever. She also worries that the accidental half-kiss with Keith at the airport may have lost her the greatest friend she's ever had. What on earth has Romy let herself in for? What readers are saying about Someone Special: 'So many twists and turns throughout the book as well as many other smaller stories interwoven throughout. It is more than just a love story, and now my favourite book of [Sheila O'Flanagan's]' Amazon reviewer, 5 stars 'Interesting story about an unusual and dysfunctional Irish family. You simply fall in love with them' Goodreads reviewer, 5 stars 'I liked the differences between characters, what they have gone through and how they interact when they need each other. Book excerpt: On 21st April 1926, three baby girls are born. In North Wales, Hester Coburn, a farm labourer's wife, gives birth to Nell, whilst in Norwich, in an exclusive nursing home, Anna is born to rich and pampered Constance Radwell. And in London, Elizabeth, Duchess of York, has her first child, Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary. The future looks straightforward for all three girls, yet before Nell is eight, she and Hester are forced to leave home, finding work with a travelling fair. Anna's happy security is threatened by her father's infidelities and her mother's jealousy, and the Princess's life is irrevocably altered by her uncle's abdication. Set in the hills of Wales and the rolling Norfolk countryside, the story follows Nell and Anna through their wartime adolescence into young womanhood as they struggle to overcome their problems, whilst watching 'their' Princess move towards her great destiny. Only when they finally meet do the two girls understand that each of them is 'someone special'.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine everything that you thought you knew about life being challenged. You now question the best way to do things. You look at what makes things easy or difficult with a new perspective. Now imagine that the person responsible for this is your child. Typically, that is not abnormal. We always look at things with a sense of wonder and magic when our children are small. Now consider what it would be like if this stage of life never stopped. This book is about my experiences navigating life with my daughter starting with first discovering that she was someone special as an infant through her high school years. We faced many challenges. Some of them came from others while some challenges were self-inflicted. When dealing with someone who perpetually sees things from a different perspective, you have to adjust your responses. What you don't realize as a parent is that others do not understand the importance of operating from that alternative perspective. You will never look at things the same again. They have never had someone totally melt down over something that to most is seemingly simple. They do not understand that the things that most normal people value are not the same things that some with disabilities value. It is my hope with this book that others will get a glimpse into the lives of those who are special and the people who love and care for them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The most crucial relationship advice book since Men Are from Mars.”—Erin Meanley, Glamour.com A groundbreaking, interactive relationship tool that literally places in the hands of couples the power to transform chronically frustrating relationship dynamics. We've all been there. A conversation with a loved one escalates into conflict. Voices rise to a fever pitch and angry, accusative words fly through the air. At times like these, it seems impossible to find the magic words that will lead to healing. Enter Talk to Me Like I'm Someone You Love. A psychotherapist with decades of experience in counseling couples, Nancy Dreyfus hit upon the revolutionary practice outlined in this book during a couples-therapy session in which a wife’s unrelenting criticism of her husband was causing him to become emotionally withdrawn. In the midst of this, Dreyfus found herself scribbling on a scrap of paper, “Talk to me like I'm someone you love,” and gestured to the husband that he should hold it up. He did and within seconds the familiar power differential between the two shifted, and a gentler, more genuine connection emerged. Dreyfus was startled, then intrigued, and then motivated to create a tool that could help others. This book features more than one hundred of Dreyfus's "flash cards for real life," written statements that express what we wish we could communicate to the person we love, but either can't find the right words or the right tone in which to say it. The statements include: • Taking responsibility: "I realize I'm overreacting. Can you give me a minute to get sane again?" • Apologizing: "I know I've really hurt you. What can I do to help you trust me again?" • Loving: "You are precious, and I get that I haven't been treating you like you are." A one-of-a-kind, practical relationship tool, Talk to Me Like I'm Someone You Love will help couples to stop arguing and begin healing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dementia affects more than 700,000 people in the UK; Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia, affecting around 417,000 people in the UK and some four million in the USA. While dementia affects mostly older people, some 17,000 young people also have dementia in the UK. There are treatments, but no cure. Caring for people with dementia is a well-recognized burden, but recently there have been moves to represent this in a more positive light, emphasising people with dementia as individuals who deserve respect, rather than as the challenge as which they have traditionally been viewed. Nevertheless, for individual carers without enough support, having a loved one with dementia often remains challenging. This book looks at practicalities and relationships, including: Defining Alzheimer's and other dementias; Diagnosis; After diagnosis; planning for the future; Medications to help with symptoms such as memory problems, wandering, and aggressive behavior; Other therapies such as music therapy; Practicalities: coping with strange behaviour, confusion, memory problems. Outside help and services and how to access them; Later stages of dementia; issues to consider such as residential care, financial arrangements, wills and living wills and coping with being a carer.
