Book Synopsis Radioisotope Transport and Deposition in Flowing Sodium by : W. F. Brehm
Download or read book Radioisotope Transport and Deposition in Flowing Sodium written by W. F. Brehm and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport and deposition of radioisotopes released to flowing sodium from corrosion of irradiated stainless steel has been studied. Quantitative measurements of deposition can be made with sensitive counting techniques. The results of the study indicate that 51Cr and 60Co are transported primarily by isotopic exchange, and do not rapidly migrate to lower temperature regions of loop systems. However, 54Mn is released in larger quantities to deposit throughout the test loops. Preferential deposition sites are (1) immediately downstream from teh source, (2) at minimum temperature locations, and (3) in oxygen cold traps. These results indicate 54Mn is transported both by eschange and by solution-and-precipitation. Deposited 54Mn migrated rapidly to the cold trap; deposited 51Cr and 60Co migrated slowly by exchange.

Book excerpt: NSA is a comprehensive collection of international nuclear science and technology literature for the period 1948 through 1976, pre-dating the prestigious INIS database, which began in 1970. NSA existed as a printed product (Volumes 1-33) initially, created by DOE's predecessor, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). NSA includes citations to scientific and technical reports from the AEC, the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration and its contractors, plus other agencies and international organizations, universities, and industrial and research organizations. References to books, conference proceedings, papers, patents, dissertations, engineering drawings, and journal articles from worldwide sources are also included. Abstracts and full text are provided if available.

Download or read book Liquid Metal Corrosion written by Jinsuo Zhang and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2023-06-07 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liquid Metal Corrosion: Fundamental Theory and Applications is designed to help scientists, engineers and students working on liquid metal (sodium, lead, lead-bismuth) to fundamentally understand liquid metal corrosion. Coverage includes a discussion of corrosion mechanisms, fundamental corrosion processes, and corrosion products' behaviors as well as methods on how to calculate corrosion rates. The book concludes with models designed to predict the corrosion/precipitation distribution in a primary corrosion loop. This book will be a useful resource for researchers in their efforts to determine appropriate materials selection and reactor design. - Discusses liquid metal corrosion mechanisms - Includes models to estimate/calculate corrosion rates - Presents liquid metal corrosion controls and mitigation methods

Book Synopsis Nuclear Corrosion Science and Engineering by : Damien Feron
Download or read book Nuclear Corrosion Science and Engineering written by Damien Feron and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-02-21 with total page 1073 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion of nuclear materials, i.e. the interaction between these materials and their environments, is a major issue for plant safety as well as for operation and economic competitiveness. Understanding these corrosion mechanisms, the systems and materials they affect, and the methods to accurately measure their incidence is of critical importance to the nuclear industry. Combining assessment techniques and analytical models into this understanding allows operators to predict the service life of corrosion-affected nuclear plant materials, and to apply the most appropriate maintenance and mitigation options to ensure safe long term operation. This book critically reviews the fundamental corrosion mechanisms that affect nuclear power plants and facilities. Initial sections introduce the complex field of nuclear corrosion science, with detailed chapters on the different types of both aqueous and non aqueous corrosion mechanisms and the nuclear materials susceptible to attack from them. This is complemented by reviews of monitoring and control methodologies, as well as modelling and lifetime prediction approaches. Given that corrosion is an applied science, the final sections review corrosion issues across the range of current and next-generation nuclear reactors, and across such nuclear applications as fuel reprocessing facilities, radioactive waste storage and geological disposal systems. With its distinguished editor and international team of expert contributors, Nuclear corrosion science and engineering is an invaluable reference for nuclear metallurgists, materials scientists and engineers, as well as nuclear facility operators, regulators and consultants, and researchers and academics in this field. - Comprehensively reviews the fundamental corrosion mechanisms that affect nuclear power plants and facilities - Chapters assess different types of both aqueous and non aqueous corrosion mechanisms and the nuclear materials susceptible to attack from them - Considers monitoring and control methodologies, as well as modelling and lifetime prediction approaches
