Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Tunnel of Love "is a goofy situation comedy involving suburban neighbors who know too much about each other s private lives. The narrator is an upstanding commuting family man who, faced with awkward situations, plays sick, has small fits of rage, or babbles something inappropriate and/or witty. Like the author, he works on cartoons published in a New York magazine, and uses humor to deal with stress. The plot includes an officious lady employed by an adoption agency, and the confused identities of babies. A pointed satire of suburban life, it is also a retro, lively romp, and more cheerful than some of the De Vries s later novels set in this world. "

Book excerpt: Cheers TV Show: A Comprehensive Reference is authored by a sitcom expert who penned the most comprehensive reference book that has ever been written about the show. This definitive guide is the best resource for any fan who is intrigued and enthralled by one of the all-time classic television situation comedies. The contents have been thoroughly researched and all 275 episodes meticulously analyzed to develop an unabridged, credible reference source. Individual chapters are devoted to biographies of the cast (Ted Danson, Shelley Long, Kirstie Alley, Kelsey Grammar, Woody Harrelson, Rhea Perlman, George Wendt, John Ratzenberger, Bebe Neuwirth, Nicholas Colasanto) and narratives of their respective characters (Sam Malone, Diane Chambers, Rebecca Howe, Frasier Crane, Woody Boyd, Carla Tortelli-LeBec, Norm Peterson, Cliff Clavin, Lilith Sternin-Crane, Coach) to provide a thoughtful examination of their persona. Additional chapters are committed to a biography of the show from its inception through the series finale, and a narrative of the fictional Cheers bar, including bar regulars and memorable patrons (Robin Colcord, John Hill, Eddie LeBec, Nick Tortelli, Kelly Gaines, Melville’s, Gary’s Olde Towne Tavern, Bull & Finch Pub). Another section offers a detailed description of each Cheers episode in chronological order based on airing dates from 1982 to 1993. The summaries contain technical credits, episode writers, directors, and guest actors (with highlights of significant movie and television credits). The final chapter provides a listing of the Emmy nominations and awards earned over the show's eleven-year span of television dominance. In sum, this book is the most extensive analysis of Cheers available on the market. No other source is more complete, accurate, or extensive. Photos included.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gil Erb was one of the men who flew the Navy's first jet, the first carrier qualified jet, the first supersonic carrier qualified jet and the first Mach 2 carrier qualified jet. He participated in two combat tours in Korea and then became a test pilot. He flew 43 different Navy aircraft and suffered a dozen near death experiences. His humorous as well as tragic life episodes are all chronicled in this biography. Gil has, over the three year course of our interviews, enthusiastically opened up about his flying days. The thrilling training, combat and test piloting episodes are interspersed with the humorous after-hours tales that seem to come with the fighter jock turf. The chapters include anecdotes from some of the seven original astronauts such as Alan Shepherd, Scott Carpenter and Wally Schirra; as well as Gil meeting Chuck Yeager and spending a day with Charles Lindbergh. Despite the name dropping, the author has tried to tell an honest "everyman's" story of what it was like to become one of the first pilots to fly jets on and off aircraft carriers and just how brave these men really were. The author also believes he has included in Gil's biography a little of how this kind of life typically affects a family. Dr. Peter Bartis of the Library of Congress' Veteran's History Project said the biography was "a beautifully documented history of Commander Erb." Dr. Dave Winkler of the Naval Historical Foundation has accepted the manuscript for inclusion in the Naval History and Heritage Command Archives and is forwarding it to several other Navy museums/libraries. Paul Gillcrist, the author of "Feet Wet", "Vulture's Row", and several other naval aviation novels said about the manuscript, "Once I started, I couldn't put it down. Congratulations! You have written a wonderful story."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this period of theological ferment unmatched since the first Christian century, we once again have different ways of formulating Jesus’s significance and identity while remaining within the one faith. We are being called to read the Scripture with a new approach suitable to our time and place. We must reclaim Jesus again so that his living, updated legacy will be handed on to the next generation throughout this twenty-first century. This ferment is creating many levels of belief in the story of Jesus. Today we have to admit that we live within the anonymity of an evolving universe where the ultimate mystery that Jesus identified as our Divine Father is the source and goal of all creation. We cannot be genuinely human if we are not related to this divine mystery that pervades the human experience—the one we live within as fish live in the sea.

Book excerpt: The first in a sweet and colorful cozy mystery series from Jess Dylan, Death in Bloom introduces flower shop owner Sierra Ravenswood. At the Flower House, every rose has its thorn . . . Sierra Ravenswood is the new part-time employee of the Flower House, a flower shop in Aerieville, Tennessee. It's true she didn't expect to be back in her hometown at twenty-eight-years-old, but after her dream of making it as a singer in Nashville crashed and burned, she's just grateful to have found a soft place to land. Because, after all, Sierra firmly believes in being optimistic and positive about life, so she's sure she won't have to work at the Flower House forever. But things take a decidedly negative turn when a customer drops dead in the middle of her new bouquet-arranging workshop at the store. When it's discovered he was poisoned by a snack at the event, everyone at the workshop, including Sierra, is on the suspect list. To make matters worse, her boss has gone AWOL and left the store to her for the cost of one dollar, leaving Sierra in charge of both his store and his high-energy Corgi puppy, Gus. The town is on edge, and Sierra knows that murder is something that an upbeat attitude and a bouquet of sweet-smelling roses can't fix. She's determined to figure out whodunit, before anyone else in town meets an untimely reason for needing funeral flowers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tunnel of Light & Dark Pt II- Hidden Messages” is a continuation of my first poetry book “Tunnel of Light & Dark”. It is a deeper dive into childhood and teenage memories, and many moments that have impacted me that were not in the first book. I felt that it was important for me to write some of previous experiences from a different view point and from a more experienced age. Writing as an adult has helped me be even more authentic without holding back. When I was younger I would tend to write in the moment just to get things off my chest, and as an adult I am able to think things through more while writing. Having more thought during the process has helped my poetry be more creative and strong. I think that will help the reader feel more of the emotions I felt while writing. I have laughed, cried, felt frustrated, and more empathetic while writing this book. I am confident that the reader will be able to relate to my experiences on some level. I also hope that if they ever find themselves in a dark tunnel, that my book will inspire them to keep marching through it.

Still others reference friends Jan knew and worked with around the world. This edition features the striking art of Mexican artist, Adelina Moya and Chinese translations by Angela Liu.
