Este impulso se debió a la entrada en vigor del nuevo Tratado de Lisboa, que incluye la protección de los derechos de la infancia como uno de los fines claves de la Unión Europea y elaboración de una estrategia sobre los derechos de la infancia. En este contexto debemos situar la Jornada sobre Pobreza y Exclusión Social de la Infancia. Construcción de la equidad...desarrollo de la infancia, enmarcada en el ciclo de encuentros que la Plataforma de Infancia y la Cátedra Santander de Derecho y Menores de la Universidad Pontificia Comillas vienen promoviendo. El contenido de lo tratado en la Jornada se recoge en este libro que analiza de forma global la situación de la pobreza y la exclusión social en España, las principales políticas de lucha contra la pobreza y la exclusión infantil que se desarrollan y se insertan en la Unión Europea, aportando a las entidades públicas y privadas, ONGs y demás actores de la sociedad civil el necesario marco de trabajo que ofrece la Convención sobre los Derechos del Niño.

Book excerpt: Fables of Development: Capitalism and Social Imaginaries in Spain (1950-1967) focuses on a basic paradox: why is it that the so-called “Spanish economic miracle” —a purportedly secular, rational, and technocratic process— was fictionally portrayed through providential narratives in which supernatural and extraordinary elements were often involved? In order to answer this question, this book examines cultural fictions and social life at the time when Spain turned from autarchy to the project of industrial and tourist development. Beyond the narratives about progress, modernity, and consumer satisfaction on a global and national level, the cultural archives of the period offer intellectual findings about the expectations of a social majority who lived in the precariousness and who did not have sufficient income to acquire the consumer goods that were advertised. Through the scrutiny of interdisciplinary archives (literary texts, cinema, newsreels, comics, and journalistic sources, among other cultural artifacts), each chapter offers an analysis of the social imaginaries about the circulation and distribution of capital and resources in the period from 1950, when General Franco’s government began to integrate into international markets and institutions following its agreements with the United States, to 1967, when the implementation of the First Development Plan (1964-1967) was completed.

In political, public and scholarly debates on processes of Europeanisation, Southern Europe invariably features as the area of concern. These concerns have been all the more heightened when the current sovereign debt crisis disproportionately hit this ‘flaky fringe’. This volume systematically investigates the dynamics of Europeanisation in the ‘Southern Periphery’ by tracing the domestic constellations of ideas, interests and institutions over the course of the 2000s which came to a close with the crisis. Bringing together a multidisciplinary team of leading specialists, the volume focuses on the political economy of public policy reform in Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain and Turkey. In order to allow for cross-case comparisons, these original country studies follow a common template framed by what the Editors call the ‘Europeanisation as research programme’. The volume casts empirical light on the causes of the crisis in these cases as well as the past legacies conditioning their responses to the crisis. This book is therefore anchored on interpretive and theoretical parameters that intersect with consideration of gender, such as travel-and-gender and war-and-gender.
