En el marco teórico de la lingüística cognitiva, se encara aquí la transitividad como una propiedad gradual del enunciado, se propone una clasificación de diferentes tipos de Objeto Directo en griego antiguo según una escala de transitividad, y se da razón de su marca casual. La idea implícita es que el Objeto Directo presenta una serie de rasgos comunes en todas las lenguas o es, incluso, una categoría universal, y que las construcciones del griego antiguo son manifestaciones de esa categoría en una lengua particular.
