Book Synopsis Youth Vs. Experience in the Enlisted Air Force by : Mary Anne Doyle
Download or read book Youth Vs. Experience in the Enlisted Air Force written by Mary Anne Doyle and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evaluates the effect of experience mix on unit size and considers how the Air Force can adapt to the demands imposed on individual work units as the mix changes. Using empirical evidence from one large Air Force occupation, the study develops an estimation technique that expands on available productivity data to infer learning curves for all tasks. Concludes that (1) experienced units can be staffed with fewer people if the work mix in an occupation is reallocated to match the experience mix--manpower requirements thus should vary with experience mix; (2) current guidelines already allow unit managers sufficient flexibility to adjust to changes in staffing levels, so no changes to work allocation guidelines are necessary in the occupation studied; (3) enforcement of training and supervision guidelines diminish flexibility only for work units with extreme experience configurations. To accommodate the increased supervisory workload generated by a less-experienced unit, work unit managers should allocate a larger proportion of supervisory work to personnel serving in jobs other that Senior Supervisor; and (4) relative productivities can be inferred from a limited data collection effort and occupational survey data. The method described in this study should be used to evaluate tradeoffs between experience mix and unit size for other Air Force occupations.

Book Synopsis Decision Aids for Selection Problems by : David L. Olson
Download or read book Decision Aids for Selection Problems written by David L. Olson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most important tasks faced by decision-makers in business and government is that of selection. Selection problems are challenging in that they require the balancing of multiple, often conflicting, criteria. In recent years, a number of interesting decision aids have become available to assist in such decisions. The aim of this book is to provide a comparative survey of many of the decision aids currently available. The first chapters present general ideas which underpin the methodologies used to design these aids. Subsequent chapters then focus on specific decision aids and demonstrate some of the software which implement these ideas. A final chapter provides a comparative analysis of their strengths and weaknesses.
Book Synopsis Decision Modeling and Behavior in Complex and Uncertain Environments by : Tamar Kugler
Download or read book Decision Modeling and Behavior in Complex and Uncertain Environments written by Tamar Kugler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-07-20 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text examines new research at the interface of operations research, behavioral and cognitive sciences, and decision analysis. From the cognitive behaviorist who collects empirical evidence as to how people make decisions to the engineer and economist who are the consumers of such understanding, the reader encounters the familiar Traveling Salesman Problem and Prisoner's dilemma, how agricultural decisions are made in Argentina's Pampas region, and some social goals that come into play as an element of rational decision-making. In these 14 self-contained chapters, broad topics covered include the integration of decision analysis and behavioral models, innovations in behavioral models, exploring descriptive behavior models, and experimental studies.
Book Synopsis Worldwide Asset and Liability Modeling by : William T. Ziemba
Download or read book Worldwide Asset and Liability Modeling written by William T. Ziemba and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-11-12 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The underlying theme of this volume is how to invest assets over time to achieve satisfactory returns subject to uncertainties, various constraints and liability commitments. Most investors, be they individuals or institutions, do not diversify properly across markets nor across time. The papers utilize several approaches and integrate a number of techniques as well as discussing a variety of models that have either been implemented, are close to being implemented, or represent new innovative approaches that may lead to future novel applications. Other issues address the future of asset-liability management modeling. This includes models for individuals, and various financial institutions such as banks and insurance companies. This will lead to custom products, that is, financial engineering. All in all, this will be essential reading for all involved in analysing the financial markets.
