Part C: Investigation of the Usefulness of the PowerWorld Simulator Program Developed by “Glover, Overbye & Sarma” in the Solution of Power System Problems: The objective of this part is to investigate the usefulness of the power system simulator PowerWorld program developed by “Glover, Overbye &Sarma”. The results obtained from the power simulator program were presented for different case studies. The power system network used in this study consists from 6 buses. Area 1 includes bus 1-5 while Bus 6 will be part of Area 1 in some case studies, or will form separate area 2 in other case studies for comparison purpose. Note that the Available Transfer Capability (ATC) analysis add-on which determines the maximum MW transfer possible between two parts of a power system without violating any limits, and the voltage adequacy and stability tool (VAST) add-on that can solve multiple power flow solutions in order to generate a PV curve for a particular transfer or a QV curve at a given bus, was not studied here because we don’t have yet VAST add-on and the ATC add-on packages.

Book Synopsis PowerFactory Applications for Power System Analysis by : Francisco M. Gonzalez-Longatt
Download or read book PowerFactory Applications for Power System Analysis written by Francisco M. Gonzalez-Longatt and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-27 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive set of guidelines and applications of DIgSILENT PowerFactory, an advanced power system simulation software package, for different types of power systems studies. Written by specialists in the field, it combines expertise and years of experience in the use of DIgSILENT PowerFactory with a deep understanding of power systems analysis. These complementary approaches therefore provide a fresh perspective on how to model, simulate and analyse power systems. It presents methodological approaches for modelling of system components, including both classical and non-conventional devices used in generation, transmission and distribution systems, discussing relevant assumptions and implications on performance assessment. This background is complemented with several guidelines for advanced use of DSL and DPL languages as well as for interfacing with other software packages, which is of great value for creating and performing different types of steady-state and dynamic performance simulation analysis. All employed test case studies are provided as supporting material to the reader to ease recreation of all examples presented in the book as well as to facilitate their use in other cases related to planning and operation studies. Providing an invaluable resource for the formal instruction of power system undergraduate/postgraduate students, this book is also a useful reference for engineers working in power system operation and planning.

Book Synopsis Modelling, Control and Stability Analysis of Photovoltaic Systems in Power System Dynamic Studies by : Gustav Lammert
Download or read book Modelling, Control and Stability Analysis of Photovoltaic Systems in Power System Dynamic Studies written by Gustav Lammert and published by kassel university press GmbH. This book was released on 2019 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis investigates the impact of: i) the low voltage ride-through and dynamic voltage support capability; ii) the active current recovery rate; iii) the local voltage control; and iv) the plant-level voltage control of large-scale photovoltaic systems on short-term voltage stability and fault-induced delayed voltage recovery as well as transient and frequency stability. The power system dynamic performance is analysed using state-of-the-art methods, such as phasor mode time-domain simulations and the calculation of the critical clearing time that determines the stability margin. Moreover, the recently developed Kullback-Leibler divergence measure is applied to assess the quality of the voltage recovery. Drawbacks of this metric are outlined and a novel metric, the so-called voltage recovery index, is defined that quantifies the delayed voltage recovery more systematically. The studies are performed with a generic photovoltaic system model and typical model parameters are used that were determined in collaboration with a manufacturer. The stability analysis is performed in DIgSILENT PowerFactory using: i) a one-load infinite-bus system; and ii) an IEEE multi-machine voltage stability test system, namely the Nordic test system. The results show that with the adequate control of photovoltaic systems, power system dynamic performance can be significantly improved.

Download or read book High Performance Computing in Power and Energy Systems written by Siddhartha Kumar Khaitan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-07 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twin challenge of meeting global energy demands in the face of growing economies and populations and restricting greenhouse gas emissions is one of the most daunting ones that humanity has ever faced. Smart electrical generation and distribution infrastructure will play a crucial role in meeting these challenges. We would need to develop capabilities to handle large volumes of data generated by the power system components like PMUs, DFRs and other data acquisition devices as well as by the capacity to process these data at high resolution via multi-scale and multi-period simulations, cascading and security analysis, interaction between hybrid systems (electric, transport, gas, oil, coal, etc.) and so on, to get meaningful information in real time to ensure a secure, reliable and stable power system grid. Advanced research on development and implementation of market-ready leading-edge high-speed enabling technologies and algorithms for solving real-time, dynamic, resource-critical problems will be required for dynamic security analysis targeted towards successful implementation of Smart Grid initiatives. This books aims to bring together some of the latest research developments as well as thoughts on the future research directions of the high performance computing applications in electric power systems planning, operations, security, markets, and grid integration of alternate sources of energy, etc.

Book Synopsis Dynamic Modelling by : Alisson Brito
Download or read book Dynamic Modelling written by Alisson Brito and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When talking about modelling it is natural to talk about simulation. Simulation is the imitation of the operation of a real-world process or systems over time. The objective is to generate a history of the model and the observation of that history helps us understand how the real-world system works, not necessarily involving the real-world into this process. A system (or process) model takes the form of a set of assumptions concerning its operation. In a model mathematical and logical assumptions are considered, and entities and their relationship are delimited. The objective of a model – and its respective simulation – is to answer a vast number of “what-if” questions. Some questions answered in this book are: What if the power distribution system does not work as expected? What if the produced ships were not able to transport all the demanded containers through the Yangtze River in China? And, what if an installed wind farm does not produce the expected amount of energyt? Answering these questions without a dynamic simulation model could be extremely expensive or even impossible in some cases and this book aims to present possible solutions to these problems.
