Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Desuri was a sleepy village in rural Rajasthan where nothing much happened. This was the case until the arrival of Shubha and Sau, a sibling duo full of adventure and mischief. Shubha was clever and witty while Sau could only be defined by one characteristic—his endless hunger. Together, these two find themselves in various humourous situations, often as a result of their own doing, which leads to many eventful moments. Desuri, however, has its fair share of characters with unique personalities. Bhaba’s endless canings, Bhabhiji’s innocence, Bibiji’s kindness, as well as loads of others add more colour and atmosphere to this rustic Rajasthani village. Through the eyes of Shubha and Sau, we get a very clear picture of what life in rural Rajasthan was in the 1940s. Join these two on an adventure, or rather a misadventure, of a lifetime that will surely keep you thoroughly entertained. Reminds me of my childhood! Ruskin Bond

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an enlarged edition of my book "Kirat Itihas" written and Published in 1948 in Kalimpong. Its second edition was published in 1952 in Darjeeling. In compiling this book I have consulted the books of every authority, I have knowledge of, who has written on Kirat people ad their civilization. The European authors like Col. Krikpatric, F. Hamilton, D. Hodgson, Father Guiseppe and Lieut. Col. E. Vansitart, who wrote about the Kirat people of Nepal in 18th and 19th century gave me much help. The Indian authors like late Pandit Rahul Sankrityayan, S.K. Chatterjee and Vagava Datta, who took much interest in publishing the ancient account of Kirat people of Nepal and India, gave me much idea about them. Last of all, my own collection of the old Kirat MSS in Shrijunga or Limbu script and Lapcha or Rong script became the base of this work. In this connection, I thank Mr. R.K. Sprigg, Professor of the school of Oriental and African Studies, London, who very kindly helped me in acquiring the micro film photo of the old Kirat MSS from the India Office Library, London. I also thank to all my friends who very kindly helped me in collecting materials for the composition of this book. Scholars and students alike have hailed it not just for its insights but for a disarming, witty style able to engage and entertain even casual readers while providing essential grounding in the field. In this third edition, Nettl revises the text throughout, adding new chapters and discussions that take into account recent developments across the field and reflecting on how his thinking has changed or even reversed itself during his sixty-year career. An updated bibliography rounds out the volume. A classroom perennial and a must-have for any scholar's bookshelf, the third edition of The Study of Ethnomusicology introduces Nettl's thought to a new generation.
