Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From playground games of " chase and kiss" to rough-and-tumble soccer games, from slumber party stripteases to romantic fantasies behind closed doors, author Sharon Lamb coaxes out girls' true stories with uncommon sensitivity and focus. The result of more than 125 fascinating interviews with pre-teens, teenagers, and adult women, The Secret Lives of Girls reveals the ways that girls use their minds and bodies for private sexual play, mischief, and hidden aggression. To truly understand what little girls are made of, Lamb suggests, we must listen not only to what they say to us but also to what they don't say, taking into account their hidden selves and the lives that we adults don't see. Yes, girls are known to be " good, " but they manage to act out in decidedly ungirlish ways and, despite many parents' fears, be the better for it. What's most remarkable about Lamb's conclusions is that we needn't join the chorus of voices deploring a " girl-poisoning" culture for damaging our daughters. Instead, Lamb finds reason to celebrate girls' resilience in the face of pressures to conform -- and she does it by l

Book excerpt: Subsequent to seeing the movie ‘Hysteria’, this book explores our modern society and how we arrived here, what is accepted and expected and offers some simply alternative ways of viewing our current and future life. Based on the personal life journey from the mid 1950’s to now, the contents includes some disturbing instances of bias, at least, through to cruelty and abuse. Humour is part of life and it is part of this work, alongside genuine philosophy and natural truths.

From skipping stones and counting stars to climbing trees and telling stories, every moment is wrapped snugly in the certain warmth of a parent’s presence and God’s blessing. Book excerpt: I am not your typical ""girlie girl"". I know more about sports than most men do (daughter of a sportscaster), I hate flowers, jewelry, shopping etc. If a guy wants to impress me, it better be field and/or court side tickets to an NFL or NBA game. I am 30 years old, still single, following a dream, wallowing in self pity; yet I manage to briefly mask my self-loathing with wine, random flings with B list celebrities, professional athletes, dating men that are full blown sociopaths, and basically being a well known socialite. Unlike most relationship/non-fiction books about random people's lives, I am the voice of every 30 something woman, who just hasn't quite figured it out yet. This is about finding love, losing love, finding yourself, losing yourself, eating Taco Bell until you feel like you are going to die, and remembering regret overrides fear. Everyone has a story, I just have the balls to tell mine. This is my life, raw and unedited.

Book excerpt: This is a truly groundbreaking book! The author intentionally gives us warnings from the start and breaks the boundaries, deliberately creating some kind of unorthodox and genuinely anarchistic yet truly brilliant type of writing. His dimension is made of grim realities and astonishing truths about the world we live in and the history of mankind. He nails with vigor the main points of the axis of everything good and evil resulting in exactly the same thing. The structure of the story is non-linear and chronology becomes just an abstract concept, obsolete and unnecessary, with no need to be followed. The parallelism and the multifaceted dimensions of the main characters lead the reader in a labyrinth of sensorial perception and physical discomfort where we end up feeling the ambience and tune in with the author’s mindset and discover different ways of perceiving past present and future all transposed in a twisted timeline of mnemonic events no longer relevant for the sake of our and his understanding of what is it all about? Life beyond belief! Dom Hummel is an anomaly among the family of authors. His early life is well documented in his novel tHE ceLL, albeit with a touch of surrealism attached to his persona. Needless to say nothing could have been more challenging than imagining what a life was going to bring after such a difficult childhood, but thanks to an everlasting sense of belonging to a few survivors of the last resort, Dom’s life took a sharp turn towards some inner search of self-determination. After many years of travel around the world, which could become a sequel to tHE ceLL, the author finally found refuge in the country of his choice, Australia has been his home since, and it is where he presently lives waiting for the inevitable... To resume it all, Dom’s an ordinary man who perhaps had an extraordinary life, but who’s to say any wiser than reading his early biography in tHE ceLL.

Book excerpt: The New York Times bestseller from Darynda Jones, Seventh Grave and No Body, puts Charley Davidson in the line of more fires than she may be able to handle... Twelve. Twelve of the deadliest beasts ever forged in the fires of hell have escaped onto our plane, and they want nothing more than to rip out the jugular of Charley Davidson and serve her lifeless, mangled body to Satan for dinner. So there's that. But Charley has more on her plate than a mob of testy hellhounds. For one thing, her father has disappeared, and the more she retraces his last steps, the more she learns he was conducting an investigation of his own, one that has Charley questioning everything she's ever known about him. Add to that an ex-BFF who is haunting her night and day, a rash of suicides that has authorities baffled, and a drop-dead sexy fiancé who has attracted the attentions of a local celebrity, and Charley is not having the best week of her life. But all of that combined barely scratches the surface of her problems. Recent developments—and a few distressing prophesies—have forced her to become a responsible adult. Exactly the kind of adult she's never aspired to be. To conquer such a monumental task, she's decided to start small. Really small. She gets a pet. But how can she save the world against the forces of evil when she can't even keep a goldfish alive? A tad north of hell, a hop, skip, and a jump past the realm of eternity, is a little place called Earth, and Charley Davidson, grim reaper extraordinaire, is determined to do everything in her power to protect it. We're doomed.

Book excerpt: At the end of a long journey, lightning flashed outside my window…I need more control. My hand jumped to Mulberry's forearm and squeezed. Shutting my eyes, I struggled not to picture the small plane cracking in half, my body flying through the air, still seat-belted to the beige leather chair; Blue, his paws grasping at empty space, disappearing into the bruise-colored clouds. The small jet shook and our pilot's voice, smooth and steady, came over the loudspeaker, "Sorry about the bumps. We'll have you down in Miami in about twenty minutes. Just hold tight." Mulberry put his hand over mine. "Don't worry," he said. "We'll be there soon." He smiled, making his crow's feet crinkle. Mulberry's eyes were deep emerald with ochre and flashes of gold. I tried to smile back but could tell I was just giving grimace. Mulberry handed me his whisky and soda. I finished it off. The ice cubes danced in my empty glass. Then we were suddenly out of the clouds. Below us the ocean was close, steel blue with white caps cresting each wave. The city's skyscrapers looked like towers of mercury in the storm's eerie light. Raindrops clung to my window, streaking across it as our speed pushed them aside. Hugh was somewhere down there in that city, a flat landscape made multi-dimensional through the efforts of man. My stomach lurched as we dropped through the air, my seat belt pressing into me. Blue whined softly and flattened himself even further onto the floor of the plane. A giant of a dog, Blue has the coat of a wolf, the snout of a Collie, with one brown eye and one blue. Both of which were trained on me at that moment. My fear was freaking him out. Closing my eyes, I tried to imagine the turbulence as a gentle rocking but it didn't work. An ice cube jumped out of my glass landing on the carpeting. Blue, his belly still flat on the ground, inched his way toward it, then his tongue stretched out and pulled the cube into his mouth. He crunched twice before looking back up at me, now hoping for more whisky-flavored ice. I couldn't help but smile at the expectant look on his fuzzy face. We touched down with a jerk that sent my heart racing one more time. But as we slowly taxied toward our hangar the storm seemed suddenly minor. Just a breath of wind fluttered across the puddles, turning them into shimmering mirrors framed by the dark tarmac. "All right Ms. Rye," our captain's voice came back on over the loudspeaker. "Sorry about that descent, but we got you here safe. Thanks for flying with us, I hope we'll have you back real soon." As soon as humanly possible. I didn't want to be here, but Hugh was in trouble, and if there was one person I cared about in this world it was him. He was a tie to my murdered brother, a shared memory bank. I would do anything to help Hugh. P.S. The dog does not die. **Beware: If you can’t handle a few f-bombs, you can’t handle this series.**
