Book Synopsis Radiation Phenomena in Plasmas by : Toshiro Ohnuma
Download or read book Radiation Phenomena in Plasmas written by Toshiro Ohnuma and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, various antennae in plasmas, particle beam antennae, phase, group and ray velocity surfaces of various plasma modes, RF ray trajectories and wave fronts in inhomogeneous anisotropic plasmas, plasma waveguides, radiations in ion beams and plasma streams, and useful kinetic plasma dielectric tensor are illustrated with many interesting new phenomena in anisotropic plasmas. Many theoretical and experimental results are demonstrated with clearly understandable figures. In addition to these fields, the properties of superconducting plasmas are also presented. Results from radiation phenomena in various schemes are shown and they can be applied in many fields, e.g., space (plasma) sciences, artificial satellites in space, RF heatings of plasmas, and advanced processing plasmas. Fundamental anisotropic phenomena in anisotropic plasmas are also expected to be applicable in other anisotropic media such as anisotropic optical fibers.

Book Synopsis Global LAnd Surface Satellite (GLASS) Products by : Shunlin Liang
Download or read book Global LAnd Surface Satellite (GLASS) Products written by Shunlin Liang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the algorithms, validation and preliminary analysis of the Global LAnd Surface Satellite (GLASS) products, a long-term, high-quality dataset that is now freely available worldwide to government organizations and agencies, scientific research institutions, students and members of the general public. The GLASS products include leaf area index, broadband albedo, broadband emissivity, downward shortwave radiation and photosynthetically active radiation. The first three GLASS products cover 1981 to 2012 with 1km and 5km spatial resolutions and 8-day temporal resolution, and the last two GLASS products span 2008 to 2010 with 3-hour temporal resolution and 5km spatial resolution. These GLASS products are unique. The first three are spatially continuous and cover the longest period of time among all current similar satellite products. The other two products are the highest spatial-resolution global radiation products from satellite observations that are currently available. These products can be downloaded from Beijing Normal University at http://glass-product.bnu.edu.cn/ and the University of Maryland Global Land Cover Facility at http://www.glcf.umd.edu/ The GLASS products are the outcome of a key research project entitled “Generation & Applications of Global Products of Essential Land Variables”, supported by funding from the High-Tech Research and Development Program of China and involving dozens of institutions and nearly one hundred scientists and researchers. Following an introduction, the book contains five chapters corresponding to these five GLASS products: background, algorithm, quality control and validation, preliminary analysis and applications. It discusses the long-term environmental changes detected from the GLASS products and other data sources at both global and local scales and also provides detailed analysis of regional hotspots where environmental changes are mainly associated with climate change, drought, land-atmosphere interactions, and human activities. The book is based primarily on a set of published journal papers about these five GLASS products and includes updated information. Since these products have now begun to be widely used, this book is an essential reference document. It is also a very helpful resource to anyone interested in satellite remote sensing and its applications.
Book Synopsis Propagation of Short Radio Waves by : Donald E. Kerr
Download or read book Propagation of Short Radio Waves written by Donald E. Kerr and published by IET. This book was released on 1987 with total page 766 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book treats the phenomena associated with the propagation of short radio waves between terminal points, whether they be the radar antenna serving a dual purpose or the antennas of a communications system. The intention is to present a summary of the state of knowledge in the microwave propagation field at the close of the war. There has been no attempt to produce either a handbook or textbook, but only an interim report on a rapidly changing subject. An attempt has been made to survey all relevant information that was available, from whatever source, and to summarise as much of it as was feasible.

Download or read book The Whitehouse Effect written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increases in atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide and other infrared active gases over the industrial period are thought to have increased the average flux of longwave (thermal infrared) radiation between the surface of the earth and the lower atmosphere, leading to an increase in global mean temperature. Over the same period it is though that concentrations of aerosol particles in the troposphere have similarly increased as a consequence of industrial emissions and that these increased concentrations of particles have increased the earth's reflectivity of shortwave (solar) radiation incident on the planet both directly, by scattering radiation, and indirectly, by increasing the reflectivity of clouds. The term ''whitehouse effect'' is introduced to refer to this increased scattering of shortwave radiation by analogy to the term ''greenhouse effect, '' which refers to the enhanced trapping of longwave radiation resulting from increased concentrations of infrared active gases. Each of these phenomena is referred to as a ''forcing'' of the earth's climate, that is a secular change imposed on the system; such a forcing is to be distinguished from a ''response'' of the system, such as a change in global mean temperature or other index of global climate. The forcing due to the direct and indirect effects induced by anthropogenic aerosols has been estimated to be comparable in global- average magnitude to that due to increased concentrations of greenhouse gases, but it is of opposite direction, that is exerting a cooling influence. The shortwave radiative influence of anthropogenic aerosols may thus be considered to be offsetting some, perhaps a great fraction, of the longwave radiative influence of anthropogenic greenhouse gases.
Book Synopsis Physics of Meteoric Phenomena by : V.A. Bronshten
Download or read book Physics of Meteoric Phenomena written by V.A. Bronshten and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Meteoric phenomena" is the accepted term for the complex of physi cal phenomena that accompany the entry of meteoric bodies into the at mosphere of the earth (or of any planet). "Meteoric bodies" are usually defined as cosmic bodies observed by optical or radar techniques, when they enter the atmosphere. The limiting sensitivity of present-day radar equipment makes it possible to record meteors of up to stellar magnitude +14, while the most brilliant bolides may reach magnitude -19. On a mass 7 7 scale this corresponds approximately to a range of 10- to 10 g. How ever, met~or astronomy is also concerned with larger objects, namely crater-forming meteorites, or objects that cause large-scale destruction when they arrive through the atmosphere (an example is the Tunguska River meteorite). Consideration of the interaction of such objects with 12 the terrestrial atmosphere extends the mass range to 10 g. On the other hand, scientists studying fragmentation processes in meteoric bod 7 ies have to consider particles with masses less than 10- g, and the use of data from meteoric-particle counters on rockets and artificial satel lites, from microcraters on the lunar surface, and from noctilucent clouds 12 lowers the minimum mass to 10- g. Therefore, the mass range of meteoric bodies, or meteoroids, encompasses 24 orders of magnitude. Although recent years have witnessed considerable development in meteor research, both in the Soviet Union and elsewhere, the main mono graphs on meteor physics were published twenty or more years ago.
