Alienated from his parents and peers, Mark finds within the shack an escape greater than anything he has ever experienced. But it isn’t long before the place begins revealing its strange, powerful sentience. And it wants something in exchange for the shelter it provides. Shelter for the Damned is not only a scary, fast-paced horror novel, but also an unflinching study of suburban violence, masculine conditioning, and adolescent rage.

Book excerpt: SHOCK... First, the electricity goes—plunging the east coast in darkness after a devastating nuclear attack. Millions panic. Millions die. They are the lucky ones. AFTER SHOCK... Next, the chemical weapons take effect—killing or contaminating everything alive. Except a handful of survivors in a bomb shelter. They are the damned. HELL IS FOR HUMANS Then, the real nightmare begins. Hordes of rats force two terrified families out of their shelter—and into the savage streets of an apocalytic wasteland. They are not alone. Vicious, chemical-crazed animals hunt in packs. Dogs tear flesh, cats draw blood, horses crush bone. Roaming gangs of the sick and dying are barely recognizable as human. These are the times that try men’s souls. These are the tortures that tear families apart. This is hell on earth. The rules are simple: Kill or die.

From the recesses of the Internet, where cosmic terror shows its face on an endless live feed, to a museum celebrating the sordid legacy of an occultist painter, this chilling collection of sixteen short stories will plunge you into the eerie, pessimistic imagination of Mike Thorn. Peel Back and See urges its readers to look closer, to push past surface-level appearances and face the things that stir below. “Mike Thorn’s Peel Back and See is a stunning show-stopper of a fiction collection.” – Eric LaRocca, author of Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features the design, creation and use of air raid shelters, including interviews with people who used them during the Second World War. The different types of bunkers/air raid shelters (both public and in peoples gardens) are covered and the strength and weakness of their designs discussed, using original designs and primary material. The nostalgia/social history of the book covers peoples experiences of staying in the air raid shelters. These are divided into topics, including getting to the shelters (how they reacted to the sirens or whether they just moved into the shelters, especially those in gardens, long-term), facilities, health issues, morale and safety, both real and perceived. In recent years, air raid shelters have been converted into different uses, including homes, and the book will finish with a brief chapter concerning the future and preservation of these once vital buildings.

She convinces ex-cop Michael McLaren to return to the work he loves. He sifts through a confusing web of lies, misconceptions and veiled motives. Are anonymous late-night phone calls, a vanished hitchhiker, and a stalker wielding empty beer bottles somehow related to the case? Or maybe the woman he broke off with is seeking revenge.

Book excerpt: The sickness was only the beginning of the misery for the residents of Coral Point. Every four years, the disease arrived to claim its victims. Those infected invariably withered, suffered, and, according to local legend, took to the sea in a final attempt at peace. But things have changed. Something has arrived in the wake of the sickness, and only a lone charter boat captain understands that what now hunts the gulf beyond the reef is far more deadly than anything that the people of Coral Point could imagine. The waters have become the shelter for a new and lethal species, a dark breed of predator that will not be confined to the waves...

Now, the young are being haunted by night terrors and those who are visited disappear. This is certainly not a place for outsiders, especially at night. So what chance do a rootless musician and burned-out explorer have of surviving their entanglement with an ageless supernatural evil and the ruthless cult that worships it? A chilling occult thriller from award-winning author Adam Nevill, Banquet for the Damned is both a homage to the great age of British ghost stories and a pacey modern tale of Devil worship and witchcraft.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A weave of mostly joys, some sorrows, and a sprinkling of earthy humour during a muddled childhood. I was orphaned in 1935 at the age of two, and my maternal grandmother became my legal guardian. The main thrust of my childhood memories focuses on home and school life, as well as childhood activities and travel in Englands North East, particularly in County Durham. Of course, the major conflict of World War II was a prevalent factor that affected everyone. Being six when the war started and twelve at the end, observations and experiences of that period are no doubt of interest to a wide readership. Generally, in the telling of my personal recollections, I have also relayed information regarding the working-class fabric prevalent during the thirties and forties. Another facet of the story concerns my attempts to cope with and solve personal problems and inadequacies. Consequently, there is, at times, a reflective, searching tone to the narrative. The final chapter describes the preparation for immigration to Canada and the trip by plane and train to Vancouver, British Columbia. Everyones story is unique, but I believe I have managed to portray a wide-enough spectrum to interest all age groups.
