Book excerpt: This leap year friendly, one-year daily devotional is designed to reach the deep places of your soul in total transparency and tender intimacy. In a chaotic world with endless demands, you need a cushioned pocket of refreshing. When you can't catch your breath, pause in this breathing space until your spirit is revived. Selah is a Hebrew word that means "a pause uncovers the hidden treasure." You are invited to linger in divine hesitation and simply hover there until heaven shapes you. As you pause to read each daily devotion, submerge your spirit in Living Truth. Like a tea bag soaking in steaming water, your soul will be infused with the message of grace. The purity of His presence will empower you to embrace eternal truth as you are renewed in the spirit of your mind. In Psalms, Selah is a musical term that shifts the congregation into a new direction. Allow the Holy Spirit to move you into the cadence of His voice as you fall in love with the Author and Finisher of your faith. Isn't it amazing that everything points us to the Lamb who was slain? Take cover under the shadow of the Almighty until the hidden treasure of Christ is uncovered.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More Than a Psalm is a collection of devotions compiled over many years. The reader is encouraged to read the psalm referenced first, then the devotion. Many different styles of introductions are used to lay the groundwork for one theme from the psalm. The overarching theme of the book and of Psalms itself is praise to God in song. Each devotion is a single theme the author gleaned from reading and meditating on God’s Word. The introduction to each devotion is created in such a way to capture the attention of the reader with a familiar quote, song title, or event from history. The following is a sample from the devotion entitled “Why Do the Wicked Prosper?” Open the daily newspaper and all you see is bad news, right? You read articles about how good people are afflicted with trouble and wicked people seemingly prosper in spite of their godless lifestyles. Gangs running rampant; sexual predators on the loose; corporate scandals, but the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. How can God allow this to happen? Why do the wicked prosper? It’s really very simple. If you perceive prospering as fortune, fame, and money, the natural conclusion is the wicked prosper. When you see things the way God does, it’s a much different picture. It’s all about your perspective. Do you have a biblical perspective or a worldly perspective? As the book is written by a layperson and not a biblical scholar, the themes are meant to resonate with any reader. If you’ve ever struggled with reading the book of Psalms, this devotional is for you. The simple themes and easy-to-understand language will touch your heart and help guide you through Psalms.

Book excerpt: The picture of God as a loving father may for some be a puzzle especially given that religion has painted God as a diety similar to Zeus waiting on the edge of his seat to raid a shower of lightning bolts to put us in our place. Or, we want to believe that God is indeed an incredible God of love yet, we wonder if he really loves us or sees us as worthy. However, God even in his majesty and might is a God of lavish love whose heart is turned towards you in devotion. For this purpose, I created 31 Days of Psalms - Revealing God's Heart. I wanted to draw you, the reader, into a deeper understanding of God's lavish love towards you, and the truth that he is intricately involved in the everyday moments of your life. Here you will find thirty-one Psalms and verses to meditate on and include in your daily time with God. In many ways, it is akin to a devotional book. Join me and a variety of other passionate Jesus writers as we explore the book of Psalms together.

Book excerpt: The lessons and devotionals printed herein are always intended to teach a biblical principle, a life lesson, show a path to righteous living, or give a warning before taking a wrong turn in life. The Bible, as a whole, contains principles and guidelines regarding every issue a person can possibly face in a lifetime, including relationships, financial management, emotional highs and lows, attitudes, authority, truth, integrity, fear, pride, temptations, possessions, repentance, and all spiritual insights to name a few. Many of these issues are presented in the chapters of Psalms. Every effort is taken to apply the principles found in the Psalms to everyday life situations so that you may become spiritually strong as you face life's complexities at every stage of your life. The majority of the chapters of Psalms were written by David, the lad who went from shepherding his father's sheep to shepherding the flock of God's chosen people as king of Israel. In his lifetime, David was hunted down for slaughter for no misdeed of his own. He experienced betrayal by close associates. He knew what it was like for his own children to try to steal his throne. He was a fearless warrior. He had a heart for God. He is called "a man after God's own heart." David had an unrelenting trust in God's protection and provision. He is the author of the most beloved Psalm--the twenty-third Psalm--that begins, "The Lord is my shepherd." May these songs from Psalms encourage you, inspire you, bless you, and challenge you every day of your life. Let there be music in your heart toward God.

Book excerpt: As James Brandon read and studied the Psalms over the years, he came to realize that the Lord was talking to our souls through these ancient songs. He was also struck by a book written in the 1800s by a man named Hawker, who after reading one of the Psalms would exclaim: “Oh my soul, what is this that thou hast found in the Holy Writ?” He would talk to his soul after reading the text. The author began to read the Psalms and reflect on what each one said to his soul. He has done that for fifty years. In this book, he focuses on Psalms forty-two to seventy-two: the Exodus Book of the Psalms, which encompasses restoration and redemption from bondage. They are songs that teach salvation, the doctrines of the faith, and how to take care of your soul. The Psalms are a wonderland of devotion. They have enlightened the author’s mind and encouraged his spirit. They can do the same for you—all while providing principles for living this life as you help others walk with the Lord.

This book was released on 2016-09-09 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two of the books of the scriptures that should be studied daily are the book of Proverbs and the book of Psalms. The book of Proverbs will show one how to be biblically wise in the things of the Lord. That book is primarily for spiritual guidance in this existence. But even an ungodly person will prosper by studying and incorporating its principles. In the same sense, the book of Psalms will also benefit anyone that studies it on a regular basis. Most of the psalms had been written by David. However, quite a few of them had been written by people that had been experiencing the seventy-year captivity of the children of Israel in Babylon. The reason that the psalms are so valuable to everyday saints of the Lord is because they are experiential. One can read exactly how David had felt while he had been running from a king that had wanted to kill him. One can read about some of the saints at a time when they had been held against their will in a foreign land. Because the Bible is an honest book, the reader of the psalms can also sometimes read that the psalmists had actually wanted their enemies to be destroyed. But one can then read about how they had trusted the Lord even as everything around them had been falling down. That is why the book of Psalms is so valuable. By reading about the everyday struggles of others and how the Lord had gotten them through, a person can draw the same conclusions within his or her own life. The message of the psalms is simply to trust the Lord and to live for Him no matter what. If life is going well, then trust the Lord and live for Him. If life is not going so well, then trust the Lord and live for Him. Within the one hundred and fifty psalms, one can read over and over about how the saints of God had looked to the Lord for help when times had been tough. But one can read that they had also been very quick to praise Him in good times as well as in bad times. Thus, another theme of the psalms is to praise the Lord always and in many different ways. Nine different Hebrew words have been used in the Old Testament to describe ways that one can praise the Lord. Many of them have been used in the psalms. Therefore, without getting into all of the technical complexities of the Hebrew language, they have been identified in this text for the applicable psalms. Another feature of this text as with my other devotion books is that all of the devotion titles have been grouped together in the index along with the date of the respective devotion. That way, those titles can serve as a topical index into each of the daily devotions in the event that someone is looking for a devotion about a specific topic or about a specific person. One might also note that an appendix about true biblical salvation has also been included at the end of this text for anyone that might be interested. So as this introduction concludes, it is hoped that those persons that read this text will be drawn closer to the Lord by getting closer to His Word. Not much that this author has to say is of any real value. But the words of the Lord and of those that had written the scriptures have absolute, infinite value. It is important to realize that the authors of the psalms had been real human beings with real human problems and struggles just like most people. Therefore, may the Lord be pleased by this work and also with each person that sincerely tries to draw closer to Him.
