Willow knows that if she doesn't brave the world outside, the letter will never be delivered, and the boy will be heartbroken. Should she try? Can she? Book Synopsis Friendship Leadership by : Matt Messner
Download or read book Friendship Leadership written by Matt Messner and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-11-29 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No one can deny that friendships are powerful relationships of influence. Why not strategically incorporate friendship within a philosophy of leadership? People long for relational models of leadership, yet few specific methodologies have been developed. This book examines the friendship of God with humanity, and the leadership of Jesus with his disciples, to whom he declared, "I no longer call you servants . . . Instead, I have called you friends" (John 15:15). In response to this enduring example of the Divine bringing together both friendship and leadership, this book presents an unexplored model of leadership for the Christian practitioner: Friendship Leadership. The authors of Friendship Leadership share research, historical examples, and their personal experiences with this leadership model, as they describe both the trials and triumphs. Through this process, the book addresses the primary barriers a leader might experience when utilizing the Friendship Leadership model. Finally, the authors offer a guide for how to incorporate friendship into their leadership, strengthening others as they follow the example of our great Leader. The result is a transformational way of leading that nurtures relationships.
Book Synopsis An American Friendship by : David Weinfeld
Download or read book An American Friendship written by David Weinfeld and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2022-05-15 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In An American Friendship, David Weinfeld presents the biography of an idea, cultural pluralism, the intellectual precursor to modern multiculturalism. He roots its origins in the friendship between two philosophers, Jewish immigrant Horace Kallen and African American Alain Locke, who advanced cultural pluralism in opposition to both racist nativism and the assimilationist "melting pot." It is a simple idea—different ethnic groups can and should coexist in the United States, perpetuating their cultures for the betterment of the country as whole—and it grew out of the lived experience of this friendship between two remarkable individuals. Kallen, a founding faculty member of the New School for Social Research, became a leading American Zionist. Locke, the first Black Rhodes Scholar, taught at Howard University and is best known as the intellectual godfather of the Harlem Renaissance and the editor of The New Negro in 1925. Their friendship began at Harvard and Oxford during the years 1906 through 1908 and was rekindled during the Great Depression, growing stronger until Locke's death in 1954. To Locke and Kallen, friendship itself was a metaphor for cultural pluralism, exemplified by people who found common ground while appreciating each other's differences. Weinfeld demonstrates how this understanding of cultural pluralism offers a new vision for diverse societies across the globe. An American Friendship provides critical background for understanding the conflicts over identity politics that polarize US society today.

Download or read book God Plants Seeds written by Anna Hartt and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-05-20 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God Plants Seeds is about realizing we all have a purpose on this earth, ordained by God before our births. He fills the hour glass of our lives with time and love; what we do with these gifts determines what we harvest from the fields of our lives, the ubuntu. We are obligated to love one another, to understand the adage, "I am because we are." Loving one person creates ripple effects throughout the world; loving the whole world is our gift of gratitude to God for all He has done for us. Only when we become "Christ with flesh on" will we accomplish God's plan for our lives. Listening for the tolling of a steeple bell from an old country church as evening comes, we hear Christ calling to us to come home. One tiny light, your light, can help heal the world's darkness. With God's love and grace, our children will harvest His peace through the seeds of character and talents that He has planted in all of us. As our Eternal Father, God directs our plans. Without Him, we are nothing; with Him, we can be our very best as leaders of the world.

Book excerpt: "Seeds of Hope" is a companion piece to my original garden book of poems entitled: A Single Rose Can be My Garden. In this book I elaborate the central themes of twelve selected poems into complete essays on those self-same themes: food, books, rock music, babies, freelance writing, travel, nature, the sea, the alps, home, love and friendship, little things. What is good about this book? If you liked the above poems in my garden book, you'll love hearing more about them in this short series of essays. They have a lot to do with the theme of one's outlook on life during this god awful pandemic. These essays do not preach any philosophy of life to get us through this, but they distract us a little by reminding us of all the good/ better/ best things we DO have going for us on this continent of north america. Where we left off before/one soon fine day we will be able to pick up again! That's one reason you may enjoy reading Seeds of Hope!

This book was written in such a way that my daily ups and downs were constantly used as my eyes to see inspiration around me, connecting my personal experiences in life to the things my eyes saw. The purpose of this book is to emphasize the deep spiritual values that one has in oneself. It is a collection of short stories about my days—stories about how I feel or what inspired me on that day. It reflects my vision and dreams, and I hope that as you read this book you, as a reader, will be inspired too.
