Book excerpt: We present a preliminary result from a search for anomalous WW and WZ production in p[bar p] collisions at[radical]s= 1.8 TeV using p[bar p][yields] e[nu]jj events observed during the 1992-1993 run of the Fermilab Tevatron collider. A fit to the p[sub T] spectrum of W(e[nu]) yields direct limits on the CP-conserving anomalous WW[gamma] and WWZ coupling parameters of -0.89

Book excerpt: A search for anomalous WW and WZ production in p{anti p} collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV using the D0 detector at Fermilab is presented. With a data sample of p{anti p} → e[nu]jjX events corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 76.5 ± 4.1pb−1. 399 candidate events were identified, from which 387.1 ± 39.8 events were estimated to be background. No deviations from the Standard Model were seen, which predicts 16.2 ± 2.7 events. The 95% CL limit on the cross section [sigma](p{anti p} → W+W−X) was calculated to be 93.8 pb. Limits on the CP-conserving anomalous WW{sub {gamma}} and WWZ coupling parameters were obtained from a binned likelihood fit to the transverse momentum spectrum of the W boson. Assuming that the WW{sub {gamma}} and WWZ coupling parameters are equal, the 95% CL limits on the CP-conserving couplings are -0.56

Book excerpt: The search for WW and WZ production in p[anti p] collisions at[radical]s= 1.8 TeV using the CDF and D0 detectors is presented. Three analyses, one concentrating on the leptons+ jets decay channels and two concentrating on the dilepton decay channels are described in detail. Limits on anomalous WW[gamma] and WWZ trilinear gauge boson couplings are presented. Prospects for further study of diboson production and anomalous couplings with the Upgraded Tevatron are also presented.

This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Letter presents a search for new physics manifested as anomalous triple gauge boson couplings in WW and WZ diboson production in proton-proton collisions. The search is performed using events containing a W boson that decays leptonically and a W or Z boson whose decay products are merged into a single reconstructed jet. The data, collected at sqrt(s) =8 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19 inverse femtobarns. No evidence for anomalous triple gauge couplings is found and the following 95% confidence level limits are set on their values: lambda ([-0.011,0.011]), Delta kappa[gamma] ([-0.044,0.063]), and Delta g[1,Z] ([-0.0087,0.024]). These limits are also translated into their effective field theory equivalents: c[WWW]/ Lambda^2, ([-2.7,2.7] TeV^{-2}), c[B]/ Lambda^2, ([-14,17] TeV^{-2}), and c[W]/ Lambda^2, ([-2.0,5.7] TeV^{-2}).

This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Letter describes the current most precise measurement of the W boson pair production cross section and most sensitive test of anomalous WW[gamma] and WWZ couplings in p{bar p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The WW candidates are reconstructed from decays containing two charged leptons and two neutrinos, where the charged leptons are either electrons or muons. Using data collected by the CDF II detector from 3.6 fb−1 of integrated luminosity, a total of 654 candidate events are observed with an expected background contribution of 320 ± 47 events. The measured total cross section is [sigma](p{bar p} 2!WW− + X) = 12.1 ± 0.9 (stat){sub -1.4}{sup +1.6} (syst) pb, which is in good agreement with the standard model prediction. The same data sample is used to place constraints on anomalous WW[gamma] and WWZ couplings.

This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis probing for the standard model production of three electroweak vector bosons, WV$\gamma$ with V = W or Z gauge boson, is presented. The W boson decays leptonically to an electron or muon, or their respective antiparticle, paired with the appropriate neutrino. The second boson V decays hadronically into two jets, and additionally a photon is required in the event. The data analyzed correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.6~fb$^{-1}$ and 2.3~fb$^{-1}$ from proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8~TeV and 13~TeV, respectively, collected in 2012 and 2015 by the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The event selection criteria used in these analyses yields 322 and 46 observed events in data in 2012 and 2015, respectively, while the estimated background yield from theoretical predictions is 342.1~$\pm$~22.2 and 54.3~$\pm$~17.7. These observations are consistent with the standard model next-to-leading order QCD predictions. Given the limitation in statistics to measure the cross section for this production process, an upper limit of 3.4 times the standard model predictions is made at a 95\% confidence level for WV$\gamma$ with photon $p_{T}$ greater than 30~GeV and absolute pseudorapidity less than 1.44. Physics beyond the standard model, such as anomalous couplings between the gauge bosons at the quartic vertex, may lead to enhancement in the number of WV$\gamma$ events produced within high energy collisions. Such enhancements can be observed in kinematic distributions, particularly in the higher energy regions. No evidence of anomalous WW$\gamma\gamma$ and WWZ$\gamma$ quartic gauge boson couplings is found, while 95\% confidence level upper limits are obtained for various couplings.

Book excerpt: The XIX Physics in Collision conference reviewed experimental results in electroweak, quantum chromodynamics, neutrino, bottom and rare kaon physics, and updated recent developments in the area of gamma ray bursts as well as the issue of the cosmological constant and dark matter. The conference opened with reports on electroweak physics. A decade of precision experiments in laboratories around the world failed to uncover any significant deviations from standard model predictions. Precise W boson and top quark mass measurements suggest a low mass Higgs boson in the standard model, possibly within the reach of the LEP II and the upgraded Tevatron colliders. These presentations were followed by a summary of the latest results on searches for Higgs and supersymmetry. There were three reports on neutrino physics: atmospheric, solar and reactor/accelerator based neutrino experiments and results. Impressive Super-K results strongly suggest νμ→νς oscillation, a scenario confirmed by less precise Soudan2 and MACRO data. The latest results on strange and heavy quark physics were summarized. High statistics from CLEO, LEP I and Tevatron have enabled experimenters to study many rare charm and bottom quark decays for the first time. Among many other interesting results presented, the first measurements of sin 2β by CDF and ε′/ε by KTeV provide a preview of expected developments in the near future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the reader to the field of jet substructure, starting from the basic considerations for capturing decays of boosted particles in individual jets, to explaining state-of-the-art techniques. Jet substructure methods have become ubiquitous in data analyses at the LHC, with diverse applications stemming from the abundance of jets in proton-proton collisions, the presence of pileup and multiple interactions, and the need to reconstruct and identify decays of highly-Lorentz boosted particles. The last decade has seen a vast increase in our knowledge of all aspects of the field, with a proliferation of new jet substructure algorithms, calculations and measurements which are presented in this book. Recent developments and algorithms are described and put into the larger experimental context. Their usefulness and application are shown in many demonstrative examples and the phenomenological and experimental effects influencing their performance are discussed. A comprehensive overview is given of measurements and searches for new phenomena performed by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations. This book shows the impressive versatility of jet substructure methods at the LHC.
