Book excerpt: The ?igveda is the first book of humankind and the most sacred scripture of Hinduism. It also happens to be the most ill-understood book of our times. Despite the extensive study by academic and religious scholars, the purpose and meaning of the ?igveda and many ancient Hindu scriptures remain unclear. In this pathbreaking book, the discovery of the ?igveda as a book of ancient cosmology is described, and related to the seals of ancient Indus Valley Civilization, thereby challenging our perception of humanity."The Vedas have always been lauded as containing the secrets of cosmogenesis. Raja Roy in his remarkable book shows how this is true not only from the yogic vison but according to the latest insights of modern physics. The book takes the reader on a vast panoramic journey through the universe of matter, mind and human history as well."David Frawley (Vamadeva Shastri), Director, American Institute of Vedic Studies"Roy presents a new framework for the understanding of the Vedic hymns from the point of view of physics and then he draws parallels with recent theories on the nature of the universe. We celebrate the new path he has hewn through the bush of old scholarship."Professor Subhash Kak, Oklahoma State University

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Puranas, as suggested by their name, describe events deep in the earth’s past. Finding a complete cosmology in the ancient Puranic texts that is mostly aligned to the view of cutting-edge science is almost incredible. This book attempts to do so – through an exploratory analysis. The narrative is pieced together by exploring familiar stories from the Puranas in great depth. In the well-known story of the Descent of Ganga, the extra-terrestrial origin of Earth’s waters has been described in amazing detail. The story of the birth of the Sun God Martanda bears a striking resemblance to the origin of the sun. The Churning of the Milk Ocean recounts the re-appearance of the Moon. The book delves into many such stories along with external evidence to come up with a compelling chronicle of our Universe. The book shows the Puranic texts in a fascinating new light. It also serves as a primer to the general interest reader by tackling some of the questions that modern science is grappling with in its study of the cosmos.

Book excerpt: To understand modern science as a coherent story, it is essential to recognize the accomplishments of the ancient Hindus. They invented our base-ten number system and zero that are now used globally, carefully mapped the sky and assigned motion to the Earth in their astronomy, developed a sophisticated system of medicine with its mind-body approach known as Ayurveda, mastered metallurgical methods of extraction and purification of metals, including the so-called Damascus blade and the Iron Pillar of New Delhi, and developed the science of self-improvement that is popularly known as yoga. Their scientific contributions made impact on noted scholars globally: Aristotle, Megasthenes, and Apollonius of Tyana among the Greeks; Al-Biruni, Al-Khwarizmi, Ibn Labban, and Al-Uqlidisi, Al-Ja?iz among the Islamic scholars; Fa-Hien, Hiuen Tsang, and I-tsing among the Chinese; and Leonardo Fibbonacci, Pope Sylvester II, Roger Bacon, Voltaire and Copernicus from Europe. In the modern era, thinkers and scientists as diverse as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Johann Gottfried Herder, Carl Jung, Max Müller, Robert Oppenheimer, Erwin Schrödinger, Arthur Schopenhauer, and Henry David Thoreau have acknowledged their debt to ancient Hindu achievements in science, technology, and philosophy. The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), one of the largest scientific organizations in the world, in 2000, published a timeline of 100 most important scientific finding in history to celebrate the new millennium. There were only two mentions from the non-Western world: (1) invention of zero and (2) the Hindu and Mayan skywatchers astronomical observations for agricultural and religious purposes. Both findings involved the works of the ancient Hindus. The Ancient Hindu Science is well documented with remarkable objectivity, proper citations, and a substantial bibliography. It highlights the achievements of this remarkable civilization through painstaking research of historical and scientific sources. The style of writing is lucid and elegant, making the book easy to read. This book is the perfect text for all students and others interested in the developments of science throughout history and among the ancient Hindus, in particular.

Book excerpt: Vedas are considered as an ocean of knowledge. Every bit of Vedas is very important each stanza, each line, each word has a significant meaning to it. For the language also supports its purpose. It is said that Sanskrit is the only nearest language which could be used to explain or describe anything clearly and specifically. It is the only Vedic Dharma where religion and Science go in hand to hand. The Vedas contain in them the gems of all true sciences. The book Science in Veda deals with the combined approaches of modern science and ancient Vedic science. As we know that Indian Scriptures and Sanskrit literature is the storehouse of knowledge. Book excerpt: This book shows how the planet's earliest civilization lead the world in both material and spiritual progress. From the Vedic culture of ancient India thousands of years ago, we find the origins of such things as mathematics, especially algebra and geometry, as well as early astronomy and planetary observations, many instances of which can be read in the historical Vedic texts. Medicine in Ayurveda was also the first to prescribe herbs for the remedy of disease, surgical instruments for operations, and more. Other developments that were far superior and ahead of the rest of the world include:* Writing and language, especially the development of sophisticated Sanskrit;* Metallurgy and making the best known steel at the time;* Ship building and global maritime trade; * Textiles and the dying of fabric for which India was known all over the world;* Agricultural and botanical achievements;* Precise Vedic arts in painting, dance and music;* The educational systems and the most famous of the early universities, like Nalanda and Takshashila;* The source of individual freedom and fair government, and the character and actions of rulers; * Military and the earliest of martial arts;* Along with some of the most intricate, deep and profound of all philosophies and spiritual paths, which became the basis of many religions that followed later around the world. These and more are the developments that came from India, much of which has been forgotten, but should again be recognized as the heritage of the ancient Indian Vedic tradition that continues to inspire humanity.

Whether it is the contribution of physics, biology, medicine, neurobiology, psychology or other branches of science, the ongoing efforts are entirely an attempt to understand this universal consciousness. However, these ideas are not new: and they have their roots in the Rig Veda, the world’s first book. It deals with Consciousness in entirety. Compiled by the Angirasa Rishis, the Rig Veda is an exposition of the route one can follow to successfully merge the Individual Consciousness and the Universal Consciousness. Gleanings from Rig Veda are an attempt to cull out these transient understandings from centuries ago.

Book excerpt: "Subramaniam examines how science and religion have come together to propel a vision of the modern Indian nation, and in particular, a Hindu nationalist vision of India. Five illustrative cases of bionationalism animate this book: Hindu nationalist narratives of scientific development, colonial law and sexual politics in India, surrogacy and women's roles, the politics of caste and race in the language of genes and genomics, and the alignment of environmental scientists and religious activists. Subramaniam demonstrates that the politics of gender, race, class, caste, sexuality, and indigeneity are deeply implicated in the projects and narratives of the nation. At the same time, she seeks spaces of possibility and new narratives for planetary salvation that defy binary logics, incorporating science and religion, human and nonhuman, and nature and culture"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Vedic Chants were declared a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2003 and added to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008. However, only very few people in Western cultures know that the Vedas are the origin of all world religions, and even less that they, as such, do not contain a faith but a science. The word Vedas translated from Sanskrit means "science", not "faith". The biggest problem in understanding this science, besides its enormous abundance of writings, for the study of which a normal human life is hardly sufficient, is that its scientific explanations can only be found encoded in mystical language. There is also no one who has a more understandable version of it, not even among the Brahmins in India, because the Vedas were given to humans at a time when they were not yet able to understand them in scientific language. The oldest swastika ever found (Mezine, Ukraine), symbol of Hinduism, gives us an idea of when that was: about 18,000 years ago, towards the end of the last ice age. Rishi Siddhartha, who has personally experienced the highest Brahman, has now succeeded in deciphering the Vedas for the first time ever, and his book is aimed at Veda students who are already familiar with the most important Vedic concepts and are keen to gain a scientific understanding of the like. It contains, in line with this objective, a physical treatise and therefore requires knowledge of physics at high school level, an excellent spatial imagination and high intelligence for understanding, because the scientific understanding of the Vedas is a mental quantum leap from the current materialistic science of our perceptible ,,relative reality" (Vedic designation) to the millennia-old science of the superimposed ,,absolute reality" of Brahman, which draws a completely different worldview that is far too complex and grand for a human being ever to come up with. An excerpt from this book appeared just a few weeks after its publication as leading article in the German Nexus Magazine (Issue No. 86) and triggered a wave of enthusiasm and amazement, because the millennia-old Vedas obviously contain the all-explanatory world formula (,,Theory of everything" = T.O.E.) that modern science is looking for. Accordingly, all phenomena of the material world consist of three different types of electromagnetic waves (Gunas) that are projected from outside into the universe and carried (as Prana) by the smallest units of space (Akasha) in synchronism with their integrated resonant circuits (Shabda) throughout the entire universe, to meet in phase in just one place (similar to a holography) and transform there into matter or living beings (Maya). The first part of this book contains a summary of all relevant scientific statements of the Vedas and reveals how the universe, matter and living beings came into existence and how they function. In the second part, the deciphered Vedic Science is applied to the pyramids and reveals virtuously their purpose and function! The fact that with pyramids the quantum flow (prana) can also be used as an inexhaustible source of energy is undoubtedly the most important side result at that. So much in advance: the sound of the OM, the most sacred mantra in Hinduism and Buddhism, plays a central role at that. It carries us to the Sea of Causes (Karanodak) outside the universe. There, the smallest units of space (Akasha) take on water-like properties and, thanks to their cluster intelligence, form an intelligent, living and autonomous organism ... Brahman ... the Cosmic Consciousness ... origin of all life and all matter!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume on Vedic Physics by Keshav Dev Verma is indeed a unique attempt to interpret the ancient Indian literature by defining various symbols, concepts and terminology occurring in Vedic hymns and other texts. While accepting Maharsi Dayananda's view that Vedas are the repository of all true sciences, the author does examine this statement with a view to test it on the hard rock of truth. Shri Verma has selected the Sankhya-Patanjala system that explains the physical world (Universe) on the basis of Cosmic evolution; the Vaisesika-Nyaya expounds the methodology and elaborates the concepts of physics, chemistry and mechanics. Shri Verma has very systematically tried to interpret the Sankhya aphorisms and concludes that the ultimate ground to which the manifested world can be traced is Prakrti having three attributes-Sattva (existence), energy at rest or Rajas (energy that which is efficient in a phenomenon and is characterised by a tendency to move and overcome any resistance) and Tamas (mass or inertia) which resists the Rajas to do work and also resists Sattva from conscious manifestation.
