This book was released on 2022-02-03 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Automorphism groups of Riemann surfaces have been widely studied for almost 150 years. This area has persisted in part because it has close ties to many other topics of interest such as number theory, graph theory, mapping class groups, and geometric and computational group theory. In recent years there has been a major revival in this area due in part to great advances in computer algebra systems and progress in finite group theory. This volume provides a concise but thorough introduction for newcomers to the area while at the same time highlighting new developments for established researchers. The volume starts with two expository articles. The first of these articles gives a historical perspective of the field with an emphasis on highly symmetric surfaces, such as Hurwitz surfaces. The second expository article focuses on the future of the field, outlining some of the more popular topics in recent years and providing 78 open research problems across all topics. The remaining articles showcase new developments in the area and have specifically been chosen to cover a variety of topics to illustrate the range of diversity within the field.

Book Synopsis Computational Approach to Riemann Surfaces by : Alexander I. Bobenko TU Berlin
Download or read book Computational Approach to Riemann Surfaces written by Alexander I. Bobenko TU Berlin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-02-03 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers a well-structured overview of existent computational approaches to Riemann surfaces and those currently in development. The authors of the contributions represent the groups providing publically available numerical codes in this field. Thus this volume illustrates which software tools are available and how they can be used in practice. In addition examples for solutions to partial differential equations and in surface theory are presented. The intended audience of this book is twofold. It can be used as a textbook for a graduate course in numerics of Riemann surfaces, in which case the standard undergraduate background, i.e., calculus and linear algebra, is required. In particular, no knowledge of the theory of Riemann surfaces is expected; the necessary background in this theory is contained in the Introduction chapter. At the same time, this book is also intended for specialists in geometry and mathematical physics applying the theory of Riemann surfaces in their research. It is the first book on numerics of Riemann surfaces that reflects the progress made in this field during the last decade, and it contains original results. There are a growing number of applications that involve the evaluation of concrete characteristics of models analytically described in terms of Riemann surfaces. Many problem settings and computations in this volume are motivated by such concrete applications in geometry and mathematical physics.

Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the conference on Riemann and Klein Surfaces, Symmetries and Moduli Spaces, in honor of Emilio Bujalance, held from June 24-28, 2013, at Linköping University. The conference and this volume are devoted to the mathematics that Emilio Bujalance has worked with in the following areas, all with a computational flavor: Riemann and Klein surfaces, automorphisms of real and complex surfaces, group actions on surfaces and topological properties of moduli spaces of complex curves and Abelian varieties.
Book Synopsis Topics in the Theory of Riemann Surfaces by : Robert D.M. Accola
Download or read book Topics in the Theory of Riemann Surfaces written by Robert D.M. Accola and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book's main concern is automorphisms of Riemann surfaces, giving a foundational treatment from the point of view of Galois coverings, and treating the problem of the largest automorphism group for a Riemann surface of a given genus. In addition, the extent to which fixed points of automorphisms are generalized Weierstrass points is considered. The extremely useful inequality of Castelnuovo- Severi is also treated. While the methods are elementary, much of the material does not appear in the current texts on Riemann surfaces, algebraic curves. The book is accessible to a reader who has had an introductory course on the theory of Riemann surfaces or algebraic curves.

Book Synopsis An Introduction to Riemann Surfaces by : Terrence Napier
Download or read book An Introduction to Riemann Surfaces written by Terrence Napier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-09-08 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook presents a unified approach to compact and noncompact Riemann surfaces from the point of view of the so-called L2 $\bar{\delta}$-method. This method is a powerful technique from the theory of several complex variables, and provides for a unique approach to the fundamentally different characteristics of compact and noncompact Riemann surfaces. The inclusion of continuing exercises running throughout the book, which lead to generalizations of the main theorems, as well as the exercises included in each chapter make this text ideal for a one- or two-semester graduate course.
Book Synopsis Riemann Surfaces by : Lars Valerian Ahlfors
Download or read book Riemann Surfaces written by Lars Valerian Ahlfors and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of Riemann surfaces has a geometric and an analytic part. The former deals with the axiomatic definition of a Riemann surface, methods of construction, topological equivalence, and conformal mappings of one Riemann surface on another. The analytic part is concerned with the existence and properties of functions that have a special character connected with the conformal structure, for instance: subharmonic, harmonic, and analytic functions. Book Synopsis Riemann Surfaces by : Hershel M. Farkas
Download or read book Riemann Surfaces written by Hershel M. Farkas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text covers Riemann surface theory from elementary aspects to the fontiers of current research. Open and closed surfaces are treated with emphasis on the compact case, while basic tools are developed to describe the analytic, geometric, and algebraic properties of Riemann surfaces and the associated Abelian varities. Topics covered include existence of meromorphic functions, the Riemann-Roch theorem, Abel's theorem, the Jacobi inversion problem, Noether's theorem, and the Riemann vanishing theorem. A complete treatment of the uniformization of Riemann sufaces via Fuchsian groups, including branched coverings, is presented, as are alternate proofs for the most important results, showing the diversity of approaches to the subject. Of interest not only to pure mathematicians, but also to physicists interested in string theory and related topics.
